TIME Publishes Rand Paul's Response to President Putin, America IS Exceptional

I for one am very proud of America's next president.

A recent op-ed by Russian President Vladimir Putin has prompted me to respond. While his position that the Syrian conflict can and should be settled through a political and diplomatic solution is correct, virtually everything else in his writing should be taken to task. So I shall.

I begin with Mr. Putin’s disagreement regarding the exceptionalism of the United States of America. I could not more strongly disagree with him. While he is correct that God created every human being as an equal in His eyes, clearly the results of each of our efforts on this earth, individually and collectively, are not equal.

America’s exceptionalism is rooted in our founding documents and values. From the rights granted by our creator, but guaranteed by our Constitution. We should not shy away from saying so, especially when our actions are in keeping with this exceptional founding, as they were this week in our debate over going to war in Syria. Our constitutional checks and balances were on full display, largely resulting in the at least temporary halting of a rush to war.

I think you are right Velveeta

It has happened before. This is David Duke stuff here.

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.

you guys are awesome

Reading down the comments, I thought I was going to get a bunch of apologies and political strategy lectures. Instead, I see people sticking to our principles. Thank you all :)

lame and uninspiring pandering

Sorry guys, but this article doesn't excite me. There is no principled stance against interventionism. Rather, we get a "we must not arm Al Queda." Everything he criticizes Russia for, the US has done as well. A milquetoast article at best.

This is Rand

entering the international arena. The words are straight forward. I don't see any political jargon that could be compared to Obama's one day we are going to do this , but tomorrow let's try that.
This is an exceptional country. That has been taken over by unexceptional despots. I'm behind Rand and our Liberty Movement. We need to get control of the White House. Just think what would be uncovered once that happened. All the dirty little lies that would be opened up.
Yes, all in all a pretty good response to the top communist leader of the world.

It's time! Rand Paul 2016!

No thank you, Bob Wenzel has an agenda to attack Rand and has

from day one.

This is very disappointing....

To see Rand Paul blather on about "American Exceptionalism" is proof that he is just another brainwashed, brain dead, anti-intellectual, flag waving ugly American baffoon.

Just how does one define "exceptional"?

We rank 19th in Education.
We rank 37th in Health Care.
We provide no Pensions for people who work all their lives.
We have no Manufacturing Base anymore.
We are the World's worst polluters.
We rank 28th in freedom of the press.
We rank #1 in deaths caused by gun violence.
We start the most Wars and commit the most War Crimes on the planet.

And our system of Elections is so bad that it completely fails to conform to the basic Carter Election Center standards that are used to monitor Elections Internationally around the World, and ensure their integrity.

There's only one thing this Country is good at: Making, selling, and using Weapons of Mass Destruction: Napalm, Depleted Uranium, White Phosphorous, Agent Orange, Cluster Bombs, Sarin Gas, Mustard Gas, Land Mines, Air Drones, and of course a vast arsenal of Nuclear Weapons.

In fact, this Country is the only Country on the planet that actually used Nuclear Weapons on populations of human beings, and isn't even ashamed of it (and continually threatens to use them).

NO! This Country is not exceptional at all.
America is a completely FAILED STATE! (and a completely lawless, dysfunctional, soul less society).

As Martin L. King once said this Country "is the greatest purveyor of Violence on the planet", and it just wallows about in incalculable debt and an ever declining standard of living -- which it is proud of (tax cuts and welfare for the rich, and cuts, layoffs, and poverty for the masses).

This Country is a basket case of lies, corruption, fraud, superficial consumerism, and mass murder. That's all that ever is going on......

Guys..

He's not saying the US government is exceptional he's saying our founders, our constitution, our bill of rights, our separation of powers is exceptional. Give him a break. He's not saying the Afghanistan War was exceptional he's saying the idea of bringing those that attacked the trade towers to justice was a noble act. He is in no way saying what Bush and Obama have done with the war is a good thing. Even Ron voted to authorize that war and all Rand is saying is our intentions and heart were in the right place given the major loss we suffered on 9/11. I'm not saying it wasn't an inside job either but if he were to get into that he'd have to kiss his presidential ambitions goodbye.

LIVE FREE OR DIE

Invalid Argument..

Hey, Ancient Greece once had a Democracy too.
So did Rome.

What happened in 1776 has been nullified by everything that happened since. You cannot judge a Country, or a set of people ... by some words printed on a paper.

You can only judge them by their actions.

And even when we were writing those nice sounding documents, we were slaughtering the Indians, taking land from the Mexicans, supporting human slavery, and only assuring the right to vote to wealthy, Male, land owners.

So the whole thing is really just a myth.
America never worked!

agreed... thus the reason I seem to gravitate torwards

people like Larken Rose..... Corbett.... and the like.

But I am grateful to Dr Paul for bringing me to the ideas of non intervention, non aggression, voluntarism. I would have never been able to make the evolution to AnCAp without him.

Who are you? America is not a

Who are you? America is not a Democracy. It's a constitutional republic. You either know that or you don't.

And what's this about you saying Anerica lacks a pension system? America shouldn't have some kind of guaranteed pension system!

In its current state...... not even close to Con Rep

But I know you already knew that.

What we got is probably closer to hybrid form of fascism. I believe that is why people like Lew and Stefan even consider minarchism and even a small constitutional republic as pointless as they will eventually be turned into.... a hybrid form of fascism.

Exceptionally hypocritical?

I'm glad I wasn't tasked with writing a response to Putin in the context of preserving my public popularity.

The FOUNDATION of this country was - and is still, I believe - QUITE exceptional. Consider that it was conceived in a REAL revolution, so the Founders and early leaders were all REAL revolutionaries. And then consider that upon winning the revolution they didn't proceed to do what pretty well all revolutionaries throughout history had done: establish themselves as despots. Consider that, instead, they had the grace to let go of the reigns of rule-by-man and take a leap of great vision to rule-by-law where the law MOSTLY governed (aka restricted the liberty of) the GOVERNMENT rather than the people. That is an amazing, amazing thing ... and amazing FACT about our country's foundation which is quite exceptional.

UNfortunately, having such an exceptional foundation requires exceptional integrity or you paint yourself exceptionally hypocritical.

And that, sadly, is the place we are today. While most of the rest of the world has been reaching UP toward our example for some time we have been debasing ourselves toward corruption at a stunning speed. We have almost completely replaced our "rule by law" with rule by men. If you are friends with "the man", and particularly if you are friends with our Criminal in Chief, nobody can or will touch you.

Now, of course, that is true in Russia, also. In Russia, also, it is really rule by man ... rule by dictator or rule by oligarchy. But Russia as a whole and Putin in particular are, in fact, displaying a higher level of integrity than our nation and our dicatator/oligarchy. How can that be? Simple: Putin doesn't REALLY pretend to be anything other than emperor and the Russian people, at least the middle class and above, have absolutely NO self-delusion about living in "the land of the free" or under a rule by law. The people know they live under a thuggery and they don't waste a lot of time deluding themselves or "voting".

But in the US we have the worse of all worlds. We have a black man with a black heart even as we previously had a white man with a black heart. And the circus of "democracy" has the vast majority of people who reside here completely enraptured in their own little trance of being "exceptional".

Well maybe the American people are exceptional ... exceptionally low in moral character, courage, and ability to discern a con job.

Bill of Rights /Amendment X: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Do you need a politician or judge to "interpret" those 28

Oh my goodness! He is

Oh my goodness! He is demonstrating that he is just as amateurish as Obama...Good Grief... a campaign speech or more showboating.

WOW....

All IS lost, effectively.

War in Afghanistan legitimate?

We don't arm one side of a foreign countries' civil war?

And he calls the pressure we put on Iran "diplomatic" pressure.

surely he jests.

I disagree with Rand. While I

I disagree with Rand. While I value tradition and what America supposedly stands for, we have a long was to go before we crown ourselves exceptional.

Its about the journey, not

Its about the journey, not the "exeptional"

Do not call YOURSELF exceptional, for then you really are'nt, to be labeled as such, one outside must see it and say it, exeptional amongst your peers, not a confession of exeptionalism, even on a global scale

Not at you Heatforce, those that would

.

The only thing exceptional about the USA is the amount of bullshit its people will put up with. Nothing more, nothing less.

here we go.... man im sick of this pandering to rush

Limbaugh and the like. Americans are normal people like everyone else in the world. We are no better or worse. This arrogance does not represent me.

This is just rand trying to look tough so that republicans will like him.

Every time I think I can support rand he moves further away.

Oh yeah!!!

The comments on here (for the most part) are a testament that I'm associating with the right people. You guys are awesome!

Couldnt agree with that more,

Couldnt agree with that more, was ready to write something, looked at the comments, and realised......"you guys got my back on this one", again........this is why i come to the dailypaul, the feeling of finding folks who think the same way, its a beautiful feeling

The USA is most exceptional

The USA is most exceptional when the Federal Government abides by the Constitution and doesn't trample on Americans Bill of Rights.

So... How long has it been since the last instance?

Speculate away )))

Putin and Paul are playing chess

Obama is still reading the instructions on how to play checkers.

if they are playing chess

rand is coming off as a novice with the chest beating pro exceptionalism call of the old boy GOP network in the CIA owned Time. putin is like a wise old player who knows his move was superior and true. no, i have no real love for putin, just calling it as i see it.

and obama? he should hand over the peace prize to putin.
