If you want your father to take care of you, that's paternalism.
If you want your mother to take care of you, that's maternalism.
If you want Uncle Sam to take care of you, that's socialism.
If you want your comrades to take care of you, that's communism.
But if you want to take care of yourself, that's Americanism.

"But if you want to take care

"But if you want to take care of yourself, that's..." Libertarianism.

You are correct, classic liberalism has a different definition

The liberals of today are large government socialists, who can't refer to themselves as such, so they twist words and their meaning.

Every one should look up Madisons quotes on democracy.

That used to be Americanism

...now its considered fringe, dangerous, antisemitic and racist.
