President Obama's speech at Hampton University Commencement. Information is a distraction

These are his exact words......

And meanwhile, you’re coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don’t always rank that high on the truth meter. And with iPods and iPads; and Xboxes and PlayStations -- none of which I know how to work -- (laughter) -- information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation. So all of this is not only putting pressure on you; it’s putting new pressure on our country and on our democracy.

This reminds me of 1984

And the ministry of Truth. Scary! Those famous words are true for them, "war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength"

This is why the government

is so intent on taking total control of the Internet. Their attitude is that the common people can't think for themselves, therefore the only solution is to legally filter what they get their hands on lest they fall for the lies of liberty, breeding suspicion about the motives of those in the government.

In another post, there was a speech by Senator Harry Reid where he is aghast that "Anarchists" had taken over the House and Senate. This may seem amusing now, but when they bring back legal political persecution, it could be anarchists, libertarians, constitutionalists, and anyone even mildly in opposition to government policy who would become the new communists.
