Update: High School AP History Book Rewrites 2nd Amendment

It is our duty to stop stuff like this.

Guyer High School (and obviously several others) are complicit in attempting to condition students to interpret the 2nd Amendment in a clearly opposite manner in which it was intended. The 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th are also misinterpreted as several commenters below pointed out.

This textbook, currently being used by Guyer High School, is attempting to redefine the Second Amendment to impressionable young minds. Parents, you must speak up and demand action. Investigate your child's history book ASAP, and post more pictures in the comments below. Call your school and demand that revisionist history books like this are removed from the school district.

Textbook version: "The people have a right to keep and bear arms in a state militia."

Actual 2nd Amendment: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Did you catch the sleight of hand?

A militia is a body of citizens enrolled for military service, and called out periodically for drill but serving full time only in emergencies. It's a common man army of citizens, NOT soldiers. The citizens are called up in emergencies to protect the free State.

The 2nd Amendment says that a militia is necessary to protect a free State, so in order to be able to have a militia, the citizens have a natural right to keep and bear arms and the government cannot infringe on that right.

The textbook version implies that we're only allowed to keep and bear arms if we're in a State militia, a clear misrepresentation of the 2nd Amendment.

Your Call to Action:

1. Call Guyer High School and tell the appropriate person something like the following:

"Hello, my name is _______________. I saw that your AP History course has issued a book titled, United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination. In this book, on page 102, the definition provided for the Second Amendment is incorrect and seems to be suggesting that only members of a State Militia are allowed to keep and bear arms. Who made the decision to use this text book? I'd like them to issue a public statement on this book's attempt to redefine the 2nd Amendment and why they chose to use it. We would also like this issue to be discussed at the next school board meeting. Please include it on the official agenda."

School Board Meeting

Tuesday, September 24, 2013 6:00 PM

The Denton ISD Board of Trustees will be meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the Board Room at the Dennis Stephens Central Services Building. For more information please contact Kim Stevenson, administrative assistant to the superintedent, at (940) 369-0002.

3. Inspect your child's history book and photograph other instances of intentional misrepresentations. Post pictures and blog about these occurrences. Demand your school districts regain control of their curriculum.

4. Share this story with your friends, family, and media connections to raise awareness.

UPDATE:

Just got off the phone with Kim Stevenson, Admin to the Superintendent.

1. Board members will not address any speaking on an item that is not part of the official agenda.

2. A community member could not add an item to the agenda.

3. You must sign in at Kim's desk in order to speak. You can speak up to 2 times and for 3 minutes. If a large number of us are attending we can assign a person to be our spokesperson and they may possibly give that person extra time.

The state adopts the textbooks every couple of years. She advised that besides attending next week's board meeting that we also speak with Darrell Muncy, Director of Student Services or speak with someone in the curriculum department.

UPDATE from Sean Getts, the father who took the picture:

"I had no idea that a pic I posted on FB would spread like wildfire. 99.99999999% of the people probably don't even know that it was my 16 year old daughter that actually brought it to my attention. I certainly planned on taking action, but the attention its received nationally has been incredible."

This really

puts perspective on the phrase "Indoctrination Center." I'm curious what it says for the 10th Amendment.

I hope this school and school board are getting chewed a new one over this.

When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign: that the dunces are all in confederacy against him. ~J. Swift

this is a very common textbook

lots of schools use this in their AP US History classes, mine did and that was ten years ago. generally the book is convenient, covering a lot of stuff in a concise way.. but it is very statist. "the new deal saved us from the depression, the federal reserve act was a progressive piece of legislation, bad we didnt join league of nations..on and on.."

SHOCKING

Check the titles of the workshops for teachers to align them with Common Core:

http://www.missourieducationwatchdog.com/2013/09/common-core...

It's all about the UN, global government, praising Muslim 'heroes' and social justice from the FEDERAL RESERVE. Yes you read that right, the damned illegal FED is now poisoning your childrens' minds with this communist crap they are allowed to bring into our schools. I saw other lessons where the CFR also came in to teach foreign policy..

Also look what happens when you try to teach REALITY

http://www.conservativedailynews.com/2013/05/teacher-faces-d...

Some examples... (hold on to your hats)

From Montgomery to Soweto: Achieving Social Justice through Economics
Secondary Level-High School, Economics - Using the Montgomery bus boycott and anti-apartheid efforts in South Africa as examples, this session highlights how principles of economics can be applied to achieve social justice.

Presenters: Amy Hennessy, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Atlanta, GA, US; Lesley Mace, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta- Jacksonville Branch, Jacksonville, FL, US

The illegal Federal Reserve is now being allowed to poison our children???

Poster Session-Teaching the U.S. Constitution: The Founders and Social Justice
Civics & Government, Secondary Level-High School - James Madison Fellows will share challenging, innovative, teacher-developed lessons using best-practice instructional strategies and standards engaging students in studying and evaluating constitutional principles such as justice and the general welfare.

We can imagine this one will do its best to corrupt the constitutional meaning of 'general welfare' to mean more taxes and more welfare.

Most everything vsisble on that

page is wrong...paraphrased and maligned.

The "separation of church and state" is not in the Constitution. Should not be included as though it is part of the first amendment. Obviously emphasizing that as the gist of the first amendment. Not.

Where is mention of "to petition the Government for a redress of grievances"? Let's not teach the masses that little gem.

The third amendment should say "No Soldier shall, in time of peace, be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in the manner to be prescribed by the law.

From my son's American Government textbook...one that we got to choose.

The dumbing down of America.

Tragic.

The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.

At least they linked it...

But should have also said explicitly "DailyPaul" as well. The Blaze must have a 24 hour feed on this site.

*edit

I guess that is what rubs me the wrong way about this, posts are made on this site to increase awareness by passionate volunteers. Glenn's minions get on here, rip material and sell it. So yes, I would like to see the host site as well the original poster to get some credit.

Put Glenn Beck on Notice

Glenn Beck steals lots of materials and claims credit for himself. Has always.

I graduated from Denton HS

The town had 1 HS then and many kids parents were connected to one of the two universities.

The profs are notorious for feeding a liberal agenda.

And book adoptions are conducted by teachers who are given a copy to read over several months during the school year. Many of them are selected by teachers who don't even read the book.

I can guarantee that the book is not as important as the teacher who discusses the information in it.

AP students are critical thinkers. We can easily look up and ask their teachers how this translates to the students.

Here's the website with the teachers' emails.

http://www.dentonisd.org/site/default.aspx?PageType=1&Channe...

yes but....

today's teachers were also brought up on this misinformation and so they have no idea what the truth is!

Teachers who do know the truth like myself, have either retired or been fired for bucking this nonsense.

Charlotte did this interview on the radio that was just so good. She spoke a lot about the history of education, the demise of it changing from traditional ed to outcome based ed. Have you listened to this broadcast?

In it she explains how years back - I cannot remember when - the teachers were called upon to change their methods of teaching. I think she had a name for it.

There is so much info on this 2 hour chat. Here is the interview. Although it is titled about charter schools, the history of the educational system here is so good.

That book is so wrong. The 2nd Amendment says this:

"The right to carry arms is reserved for the United States Government only."

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...

I wonder if people in the district ...

... could sue the author and publisher for fraud and misrepresentation, since they are representing themselves as offering a "history" book and not a propaganda book to students.

this is on TheBlaze.com

this is on TheBlaze.com pushed as their 'orignal story' LOL fuck those guys

They linked to the DP and they helped spread the word...

They did give us credit, they added value to the story, and they increased distribution and awareness. The coverage was good.

I claimed this as a DP Original, and I got it from a friend's news feed on Facebook.

For the record. Has everyone missed the obvious?

The constitution was written in plain English and does not need a summery. Is the Constitution not the law of the land? Copy and paste is all that should have been needed. Considering this was for an AP class it's almost impossible to think this was an accident. That is unless you are willing to concede the people writing, editing and publishing school books are too stupid to read and comprehend plain English.

AP?

What does the "AP" stand for....Approved Propaganda?

Think Truth...Trust Truth...Rely on Truth!

I sure haven't.

I sure haven't. I thought about making that very comment then got distracted.

This sort of rephrasing of amendments which aren't longer than a few lines each is indeed wrong and insulting anyone's intelligence, to begin with, in too many ways to count.

Why the hell didn't they just

Why the hell didn't they just copy/paste the actual text of the amendments on the book Is this some massive public school conspiracy or do they actually believe that high school students are are too stupid to comprehend the language in the bill of rights?(minus the 2nd amendment obvious politically motivated change)

Just one more way the public school system is dumbing-down our youth and future generations.

Interesting

In America, parents' concern about education is limited to "speak up to 2 times and for 3 minutes"!

I grew up in China in the 1980's. When we had an incompetent teach, our parents were at the principle house every night with no limitation till the principle agreed to change teach for the one that we demanded. And this happened in a communist school.

AP?

Are you sure this is part of the official AP curriculum? My daughter is taking AP government now at the Governors School for government and international relations (ranked 14th best HS in the US) and I haven't heard of this nonsense. Her teacher sponsors the Liberty Club so I doubt she will be forced to regurgitate this crap. I'll have to look at her textbook to be sure. Reminds me of Animal Farm when the words written on the barn kept changing.

Thetis

This is just plain dumb. For

This is just plain dumb. For my AP History class, we used "The American Pageant," which I thought was a decent textbook. Of course, like any good U.S. History textbook, it had the entire Constitution in it. The Bill of Rights isn't very long, and it's stated in plain English. You have to go out of your way to (poorly) paraphrase it.

27,000

Let's hope the 27,000 people who read this article will figure out what is going on in the REST of the curriculum!

You Tards Lack Reading Comprehension!!!

If you read the sentence before the amendments are described.. it says "Here is a summary of the rights..."

Yes it does does not state the amendment verbatim but it is paraphrased for the reader.

Now, that's funny!

Someone with little, or no, critical thinking ability is calling others Tards.
