Now It's Getting real Serious: Cleveland Clinic cuts jobs and budget over Obamacare

September 19, 2013

In what is being called a slap at President Barack Obama and his Obamacare, the world-famous Cleveland Clinic is cutting thousands of jobs and cutting $6 billion from its annual budget due to Obamacare, according to a Reuters report on Wednesday.

On July 22, 2009, Obama used the Cleveland Clinic as well as the Mayo Clinic as examples of how he claimed Obamacare – the Affordable Care Act – would improve such facilities. At that time, Obama said:

So part of what we want to do is to free doctors, patients, hospitals to make decisions based on what’s best for patient care – and that’s the whole idea behind Mayo, that’s the whole idea behind the Cleveland Clinic.

Obviously, some four years later, Obamacare is harming the staff size and finances of the institution he praised as ‘working well’ at that time.

Eileen Sheil, who is the Executive Director of Corporate Communications at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, said that there will be workforce reductions from its current employee base of 44,000, as well as early retirement options for 3,000 eligible employees, reduction of operational costs and a harder look at filling alleged job vacancies. She asserts that the medical facility knows it’s going to be reimbursed less under Obamacare.

The Cleveland Clinic – the second largest job-provider in Ohio after Wal-Mart - is known for treating celebrities such as former Italian Prime Minister Silvio, musician Lou “Walk on the Wild Side” Reed, and former Olympic gold medal-winning skater Scott Hamilton. The medical facility has approximately 100 location in Ohio and employs 3,000 doctors. The main facility of the Cleveland Clinic is well-known for cardiovascular and cancer treatments. http://www.examiner.com/article/cleveland-clinic-formerly-to...

Cleveland Clinic has become very personal for us.
There are only two doctors in the country who do eyelid and conjunctival tumors and von Hippel Lindau disease, retinoblastoma, Uveal Melanoma, Retinoblastoma-- and my wife was diagnosed with a tumor in her retina.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center cutting 1,000 jobs

"Vanderbilt is making these job cuts to prepare for various financial pressures, including an aging population, lower reimbursement rates from insurance companies, a lack of Medicaid expansion in Tennessee and a reduction in National Institutes of Health grant funding."

I suppose ObamaCare also factors into the layoffs, though it wasn't cited specifically.

Bump!

!

as a person who doesn't want to use conventional . . .

medical care, I could see that that would be the result--

this is going to hurt everyone in some way--

well, now that was a silly thing to say--

there has to be someone who is benefiting; I wonder who that would be?

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

I'm sorry--

I know medical care is a very personal choice.

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

And a bump before it drops off the page.

Obamacare is a disaster, and will be more of one when it is fully implemented.
