**Bypassing and harnessing the mainstream media**
I posted this as a response to another forum topic, but I really think this is where our strengths lie and just wanted to hopefully get the ball rolling.
I've thought for a long time now that we're not really using all our weapons here. We have numbers - devoted numbers - and we're still complaining about the MSM. The traditional media outlets are never going to give this message the airtime it deserves, but we can bypass them. We can bypass them through advertising on the #28 at the Daytona500 (this could be massive, by the way - donate here: LINK).
We can bypass them through the precinct captains scheme - which is an outstanding idea. We really need to figure a way of plugging the meetup groups directly into this. We have the numbers, we just need to mobilise them.
We can bypass them by organising things like a city by city march/rally idea which LOCAL media will pick up and run with. The reason we don't get into more local media (which far more people actually read and FAR more people trust, by the way) is that the local media get their stories from the mainstream media (check out Noam Chomsky's article on the front page of DP - very good read). They would much rather report on something big that's happening locally though (I used to work in a small local newspaper and we loved it when newsworthy stories were handed to us - they're ALWAYS looking for good local news to report on), so we should organise events like this and contact every media outlet within 200 miles. THAT's how we get into the homes of people who don't use the internet. We organise a big rally with flyers and maybe even games and stuff - make a fun event of it, something positive and rousing - and then send a letter to a local reporter with details and dates and things.
Thoughts, anybody?
