Humankind’s Most Dangerous Moment: Fukushima Fuel Pool at Unit 4. “This is an Issue of Human Survival.”

By Harvey Wasserman | Global Research, September 20, 2013

We are now within two months of what may be humankind’s most dangerous moment since the Cuban Missile Crisis.

There is no excuse for not acting. All the resources our species can muster must be focussed on the fuel pool at Fukushima Unit 4.

Fukushima’s owner, Tokyo Electric (Tepco), says that within as few as 60 days it may begin trying to remove more than 1300 spent fuel rods from a badly damaged pool perched 100 feet in the air. The pool rests on a badly damaged building that is tilting, sinking and could easily come down in the next earthquake, if not on its own.

Some 400 tons of fuel in that pool could spew out more than 15,000 times as much radiation as was released at Hiroshima.

The one thing certain about this crisis is that Tepco does not have the scientific, engineering or financial resources to handle it. Nor does the Japanese government. The situation demands a coordinated worldwide effort of the best scientists and engineers our species can muster.

Why is this so serious?

Not exactly... Not a human

Not exactly... Not a human survival issue. Unless you're in the fukushima prefecture. All that will happen worst case scenario is an increase in cancer rates. Look at chernobyl. That was a graphite reactor that exploded and contaminated alot of Europe. The US and most of the Northern Hemisphere will see and increase of maybe 1%. Look it up. I was in the nuclear field years ago. Just take a look at how many bombs were let off during the testing days. More than fukushima would let out. You're seeing the increased cancer rates today from that. But I'll bet you a dollar most of the cancer today is not from the nuclear infancy age it's from todays processed foods and the like. So be careful fear mongering. The administration does a good job of it. To learn more go to www.fairewinds.org Arnie knows his stuff. I'd be alarmed if a US facility had the same problem. So no we aren't going to end as a species. There is pleny of wildlife near chernobyl now. Granted not the best for life, but didn't turn it into a desert.

I guess you missed

I guess you missed the part about removing 1300 3/4-ton fuel rods - error free - with manually-run cranes, lest they clang together and generate a chain reaction.

Yea, basically what I said.

Yea, basically what I said. Bad for people around there, not going to end the human race though and I got heavily downvoted. Its almost like people want it to be that big a disaster.

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

Oh and I suppose you missed the part

where someone with a blog and a youtube channel said that it could potentially cause BILLIONS of deaths?? Come on, dude. That person has a blog AND a youtube channel, so that's like *two* sources.

Do you have a blog? Do you have a youtube channel? Do you have anything to offer except common sense and a basic level of scientific literacy?? No wonder you got down-voted.

I have a piece of paper that I write on a lot.

It's a really good resource too. :)

Just need any of the 10 or 20

Just need any of the 10 or 20 US eastern seaboard suspended fuel rod pools on earth quake faults to go up in smoke and finish the job, which they will sometime in the next 1000 years and perhaps much sooner.

Revelation 16:3,4 "And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea."

It sounds plausible that the contents of a nuclear containment vessel poured into the sea could do this.

Whoever decided to do these nuclear power plants wrote the end of humanity.

The problem is

that the vial and the content of the vial are not from man but from God. Too many people fall into the trap of trying to base all events of Scripture on mans capability when in fact only God's capability is needed and He has had that capability always. When those vials are poured out it will be much worse than what man could do on his own.

Don't get me wrong. I also believe that IF given enough time nuclear technology will end up destroying our environment just like Chernobyl and Fukishima. But ultimately He will destroy the earth.

It does bring up a question though. What is meant by "blood of a dead man"? Does it mean dark red or thick like coagulated or simply lifeless or without oxygen or what?

Found this link on it.

and this one.....

Typhoon and earthquake strike Fukushima

While Tepco is about as trustworthy as a school text book...

I hope that people take a minute to learn from a real nuclear expert like Kirk Sorensen. Please, watch the YouTube video "LFTR in 5 Minutes" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9M__yYbsZ4 to find out a lot more about two things:

1) The real way nuclear reactors work.
2) A significantly superior type of reactor.

Michael Nystrom's fists can punch through FUD.

Maybe I'm just behind the times, but I was blown away by the video and the liquid-fluoride thorium reactor (LFTR) technology!

Every once in a while you stumble upon something that you really believe will play a big part in the world's future...LFTR is one of these things.

It's really amazing, isn't it?

Someone else on Daily Paul linked it long ago. I learned so much! I've even gone so far as to bribe people with food to watch it with me. Without fail, the people who watched it were amazed.

Now that you know, you MUST spread it!

Oh yeah, and since that video was made, India put a thorium reactor online and found that it performed EXACTLY like Weinberg said it would!

A massive Hurricane is heading towards China... and guess who is next to China??? ..........Japan

Why isn't this all everyones talking about?

This is insane.

because there's jack-all we can do about it

except blow it off. Or gobble pre-radiated seaweed until you accumulate enough iodine to kill an elephant.

Be brave, be brave, the Myan pilot needs no aeroplane.

Don't eat seafood from the Pacific

I quit just after it happened. So be nice and support the industry? Nope, they are not being honest with us at all about the risk.

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.

Fill pool with neutron absorber. It'll act like control rods.

Free includes debt-free!

Re: Neutron absorber

It's called 'Nuke Away'(tm).

Yes, its bad for the people

Yes, its bad for the people in the nearby area. However, its not going to endanger the entire planet.

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

Do you have proof of that?

Maybe instead of using our tax money to bomb innocent children and mothers and providing food stamps to low lives, we should be sending our best scientists and engineers over to help.. but nooo of course not!!

America loves destruction.

Garan's picture

Maybe you like killing U.S. scientists.

Maybe the real reason our scientist don't get sent is because they don't want to go and work toward their own early death.

Besides, our scientists are too busy cutting down other good scientists, creating mine-fields of patents, and marginalizing their own mistakes.

So much to do. So little time. :)

Many scientists have

Many scientists have estimated that up to 3 billion people could die as a result.

Not that I don't believe you I but I always like seeing facts.

Here's one:

There are a few other places, I don't necessarily know what "experts" they are quoting and I have a feeling it's a fairly extreme far end possibility, but it is definitely true that it affects more than just Japan.
