Republicans' phone lines flooded with calls to defund Obamacare

WASHINGTON — Following the epic, 21-hour speech by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, supporting the defunding of Obamacare, either voters made so many calls to establishment Republicans that their phone lines melted, or those GOP leaders took their phones off the hook.

Even in this age of digital wizardry and limitless voicemail, callers could not get through at all to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

A message said the senator was experiencing a high volume of calls and directed members of the public to call back later or visit his website.

It was the same story with the man who was the face of the GOP in the 2008 elections, former GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

His phone was off the hook, too. Callers got a message stating his voicemail box was full.

The Arizona senator apparently had other matters on his mind during the Cruz speech, tweeting, “Final episode of #Broadchurch tonight – one of the most entertaining shows on TV right now.”

That prompted conservative commentator Michelle Malkin to tweet, “Meanwhile, McCain is tweeting about a TV show. See the problem here, America?”

Callers to Minority Whip Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, also got a message saying the line was busy, but at least those callers were sent to voicemail.

I have this growing suspicion

That we are being scammed/ played with all of this De-fund nonsense. I think it would benefit the Democrats greatly if the repercussions of this tyrannical law came to fruition prior to the 2014 elections. I don't trust Cruz or his NeoCon buddy Limbaugh.Wasn't the implementation of the individual mandate already going to be postponed for a year anyway ?? Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

'De-fund nonsense?' You sound

'De-fund nonsense?'

You sound like Nancy Palosi saying, "We have to pass the bill to find out what's in it."

We already know what's in it, and that is what you smell.

I think it would benefit the Republicans (not Democrats) greatly if the repercussions of this tyrannical law came to fruition prior to the 2014 elections.

But I don't want to open up a can of worms just to say I told you so.

For the bump

John McCain is a jerk!!

All these neocons better be recalled or lose their elections.

This is getting sickening

The fact is that the hell bound Democrats forced Obamacare on us and not a single Republican voted for it yet all the LIBERALtarians are screaming for heads of Republicans for not stopping something that they can't.

This is how it's been ever since I can remember. The Democrats ruin this country and the Republicans pay the price so we keep sinking further and further into this morass.

Where are the calls to the Democrats to defund this monstrosity? Where are the calls to recall the Democrats? When are the heads of the true perpetrators of our destruction going to roll?

As long as there are bleeding heart progressive democrats in our government we will never be free.

I can't disagree with

your point about Democrats, but if the R's don't jump on the opportunity to kill this beast, then IMO they are "secretly" voting FOR it. Devilish bastards!
