Surprise! Obama care is free-market capitalism.

How Obama set up Ted Cruz and the T-ball party to fail.

Okay now that Obama care has been rolled out I've read the program and all it is, is no more than a simple insurance exchange program. Now I know all you Mark Levine groupies on this site will scream that its evil socialism, but in all actuality it is more capitalistic than the system we have right now.

With ACA you will be able to go to a database on a website choose your own health care plan at a national level , before you could only choose your health plan at a state-level whereas insurance companies held monopolies on territories. I have to admit this is a brilliant idea that allows insurance companies to compete at a national level which in turn will do exactly what it says it will do lower insurance premiums with a free-market capitalism approach. The average family would pay an average cost of $320 a month with a tax subsidy according to their income bracket. A single person could pay as little as $74 a month for affordable health insurance. Along with that it would allow insurance companies to compete with each other at a national level in return lowering everyone's insurance premiums. Oh yeah, and for all you anarchist who do not wish to participate you will receive a small fine that will be lower than your monthly premium for the first two years.

Now I have wondered for months why Obama has allowed all the Faux news zombies to let their imaginations run wild all these months, and now I know why , he has set a trap for an idiot like Ted Cruz to stand up on his little soapbox and rail away against socialism all the while setting up the tea party to fail. After the American people realize what Obama care actually is they are going to love it. Once again showing the Republicans play checkers while the Democrats play chess.

This Post Is Wrong

You can't buy insurance on the exchange on a national level. Many counties in America have but ONE choice. Of course that ONE choice is the local yocal non profit (non taxed) Blue Cross in that state.

Blue Cross wrote the law. But you are correct in some ways. The tax payers suffer paying $1,500 a month for family coverage (Florida Blue Cross Inc.) on Florida's state employees and on the exchange a 30-year-old couple and 2 children can get the security of personal and portable Individual Health Insurance for less than $500 with the HSA Bronze plan.

So Blue Cross might have a problem with their MONOPOLY if this knowledge gets out there in the world. The newspapers can't write about it because Blue Cross is a major advertiser and the largest cash cow in Florida campaign contributions. Blue Cross doesn't care who wins between Rick Scott and Charlie Crist because they have both of them bought off. Crony Capitalism to the Max.

Just look at Florida Blues CEO trying to sell $51 Billion in Medicaid expansion in Florida. He is a terrible salesman yet the Blues are paying him over $6 million per year! This scam artist is all about Value yet the Blues cost 3 times more for state employees than they can get on the exchange. That is what he will do with Medicaid cash too.

sounds to me like Nancy Pelosi logic.Too much legislation packed into obamacare for it to be anything other than pure evil!

A market where everything is free? Who's getting looted?

Marxism imagines the oppressed will always have someone to loot.

After looting the producers there is less loot in the future.

The oppressor is looting the oppressed, so why target the producers.

Marx was either irrational or a criminal mind.

Free includes debt-free!

If government is involved

it is not a free market.

Keith Olberman is that you?

Seriously?

Free Market Capitalism?

This has got to be one of the most ignorant posts I have ever seen on the DP. You get fined if you don't by health insurance, that's free market? It uses more force to extract more money from people, employers and manufactures, that's free market? I hope this post was some sort of sarcastic joke.

The bold effort the present bank had made to control the government ... are but premonitions of the fate that await the American people should they be deluded into a perpetuation of this institution or the establishment of another like it-Andrew Jackson

You have little clue about what America is putting her feet in.

You have little clue about what America is putting her feet in.

I propose we see and rediscuss again about the situation in just ten years. Shall we?

Let's see if the "ObamaCare" proponents will be smarter and will have performed better than the French experiment :

http://www.assurprox.com/mutuelle/assurance-maladie-deficit-...

Copy/paste in Google translate left as an exercise left to the reader.

Oh, and btw, what's this website above anyway?

Here's a clue : after decades of "universal healthcare", and besides a deficit which is now in PARABOLIC growth (11 billions in 2004, 27 billions in 2010, etc) ... well, decades ago the French realized that NO MATTER what the tax increases are, the performances of the universal system were STEADILY decreasing ANYWAY and to get a decent coverage back, their families HAD TO spend more than just into the tax-funded universal system and join also what is now known as "mutuelles complementaire sante" - or "complementary healthcare providers"... from the private sector. Oh the irony...

So, yeah, you guessed right : what you have above is A COMPARATIVE RATER for the (private) "complementary healthcare providers" that you BETTER have if your "universally covered" illness (by dear state) is a little worse than just a cold...

oh, but ***THAT*** is not so much advertised - oh so conveniently omitted EVERY SINGLE FREAKING TIME ! Coincidence ! - when it's about "the best universal healthcare system in the world".

Yeah, right.

It works great, as you can see !

LOL, free market

If you truly believe this I got a London bridge in my backyard to sell you.

How can it be free if I have to pay a penalty for not doing business with the company of their choice?

Oh and here is what happened to my insurance plan, no more health savings accounts, my deductible has tripled, and my premiums have doubled. Thank you commander of thieves!

And now all your April confessions will include your insurance plans. Next year, if you kissed your doctor!

Gold standard: because man can not be trusted to control his greed

Now that you read the "program"

have you bothered to look at the price?

The exchanges are already up and here is what happens to me:

I am self employed and self insured. My $8K deductible plan ($750 mo) will be cancelled on 1-1 due to the ACA. The cheapest plan available to me is $12k deductible and $1000 per month!
Healthy family of four in California who rarely go to the doctor (I mean rarely)but our annual income is over $93K per year (try to raise a family in CA for less than that - not easy)

so guess what? am I going to pay $1000 a month for a $12K deductible? NO WAY ---- just got priced out of the market - I cancelled my current insurance I Will pay cash ---- there's your market :)

Holy crap, $750/mo? I

Holy crap, $750/mo? I wouldn't even pay that. At that point I would save my money and take my chances.

Yes

It went from $460 to $750 over the course of 2 1/5 year and the explanation was "ACA" ---- I held on for no real reason, you're right - it makes absolutely no sense expecially when we are a healthy family that rarely goes to the doctor --- I have an HSA (of course now I won't have the tax advantage without insurance) and we will start putting the equivalent of monthly premiums in that account and pay cash.

Worst Case: Cancer or Terminal illness (I will look for care in another country - probably TJ since we live so close)

OR: Car Accident --- then medical coverage will kick in :)

You just fell into the loop hole!

Obama care says insurance companies can no longer discriminate against anyone for pre-existing conditions. Most would be better of paying the penalty, and buying health insurance only for the months you need it.

If your going to the Hospital in an ambulance for a heart attack they can not discriminate against you. Just get on line and sign up on the way to the Hospital.

Gold standard: because man can not be trusted to control his greed

Not really

I spoke to an insurance agent this week who is going to class to get educated in Obamacare. He said that each year we will have the opportunity to enroll but it will probably be a 60 day window at the first of the year. Thus, if you contact a terminal illness in March, you must wait til January to get on a plan

Look I got my information from Reuters

And I could be wrong, very wrong but I thought state exchanges meant interstate exchanges and Texas has one of the lowest state rate exchanges so you still might be able to shop in other states. If I am correct your premiums should go down especially if you are able to shop in other states, this is how I thought that premiums would would work .

I feel for you, me personally I had to abandon my medical savings account when I went broke in 2007 and started using the VA. Under Obama care I have no idea whether I'll be able use the VA or not.

Like I said, if I am correct about interstate exchanges your premiums should go down. I will tell you not to panic because I'm sure after the dust settles and this thing gets up and running your rates should go down.

No, I don't think the exchanges are interstate.

They are "state" exchanges because Obamacare wanted every state to set one up. Some states opted not to, so people in those states can use the one created by the Federal government. Allowing insurance to be sold across state lines (and thereby increasing competition) was one of the hallmarks of the Republicans' plan. But unless I missed something, I don't think that ended up in the Obamacare law.

Ann in Florida

Well I do have a confession to all of you.

Actually I did not read the whole bill, but I did read Reuters and I did stay at a Marriott hotel last night.

Lmao I guess with all my

Lmao I guess with all my economic knowledge I missed the part where it said Government providing a market place/exchange system is a free market lmao
