WASHINGTON — Republicans rallied around a budget plan Saturday to keep the government open but delay the new health care law for a year, storming toward a showdown with Democrats that looked increasingly likely to shut down the government when the current fiscal year ends Monday night.

Republicans in the House of Representatives showed unusual unity Saturday in endorsing the plan, then took it to the full House for expected approval. Their proposal would keep the government funded through Dec. 15, delay the health care law, permanently repeal a 2.3 percent medical device tax that helps fund the health care plan and assure military personnel would be paid if the government shuts down.

The Senate is not scheduled to return to session until Monday afternoon, 10 hours before the fiscal year ends. Democrats who control the Senate said they wouldn’t negotiate or consider the House proposal, leaving no apparent path to compromise on either side in the waning hours before money runs out for many parts of the government not on automatic spending such as Social Security or considered essential such as the military.

insider, Larry Nichols, exposed in a radio interview last night, that the GOP unleadership made a deal with Obama and the Dems to shut down the government for a few days to make the Tea Party grassroots believe their activism is working. Then, they will allow the Democrats CR to pass funding Obamacare, which will discourage the Tea Party from the GOP, and force a 3rd party. He said this will allow the Dems to gain complete control, and send us all into serfdom. He also, said Hillary left the SOS to get a jump on her campaign funding for 2016, which will almost guarantee her win. As, Dr Paul has stated many times, we have a one party government, aka collectivists, so what Nichols stated could likely be a reality. And, he's not a progressive Democrat either, he is an old pro-working class conservative Democrat who tried to push Bill Clinton towards the center as an advisor. He said if you think Obama was bad, wait until Hillary gets in office. She will be the Stalin in the Bolshevik system set up by the Trotskyites.

They shut down the government, and no one seems to care, including Congress.

How long are they going to sit and twiddle their thumbs? Until the market starts crashing?

The stock market was up today. Nasdaq to a new high, but not an all time high - we're still around 50% off from the y2k stock market high.

Was that a bluff, or was that the market expressing an informed opinion? That this is just a show.

Will Guantanamo Bay be forced to cut back on water torture?

Only one beating a day for prisoners, the government can't afford anything more. Drone attacks will only be able to kill half as many innocent civilians.

But Obama will not cave into this governmental shutdown. Obama and family will vacation as long and hard as they have too, in order to show sacrifice and lead the American people by example.

All they are doing is screwing over a bunch of poor people that work these jobs, trying to make the slaves scream for their masters to come rescue them. It's fucking despicable.

both of them, but usually a somewhat generic one, to do with the subject at least, from my representative (who is the only one here in Wyoming). Remember Wyoming is a very low populated state, so the senators actually can do this.

It's notable that the democrats are blaming the republicans for the shutdown, yet seem to be voting against the resolutions to suspend rules, resolutions which would allow funding of portions of the government. If they are against the shutdown, why do they prolong it in the areas proposed for funding in the joint resolutions being voted on? It seems more like the republicans are trying to fund the government minus the parts they don't like, but the majority of democrats want all or nothing and don't really care about what happens. If republicans try to fund parks, and democrats reject it when it doesn't include obamacare, how can they blame republicans for the unfunded parks?

Strategy for the Republicans

1. Continue to send appropriations bills to the Senate to fund various parts of the Government. Each time they are defeated, resend.

2. After a week or so, send funding for Obamacare, contingent on the repeal of every single exemption (including that for the Congress) and the immediate reversal of the one year delay on employer mandates. The bill would force the immediate and universal implementation of Obamacare as it was originally passed and signed into law in 2010.

The House should insist that we all go down hand-in-hand together and that Obama's unilateral granting of exemptions and selective enforcement was unconstitutional, corrupt and unfair.

And if the senate defeats it? On alternating weeks, one week send the Senate a bill funding the entire government, sans Obamacare; the next week, send the bill funding Obamacare, but striping all exemptions and delays.... and on and on.

If the Senate goes for immediate full funding, Obamacare will be the biggest legislative disaster of all time. If they elect the second option, as a matter of "fairness", we have another year to work on killing this thing, And if they hold firm? The debate has radically changed in favor of the House.

Messaging is important

Make sure you call your entire state's delegation. Both senators and all congresspeople. Tell the Democrats to compromise and tell the Republicans to hold fast and prolong the shutdown--because Obamacare is a massive catastrophe and any and all political capital expended will serve to massively rejuvenate their conservative and libertarian activists.

The surveillence state will not be defunded, either

Hey Lars - Here in Skamania county we have a bit of an issue with the Federal Government owning almost all of our land. We can't log it, we can't tax it, and it can't be sold to private businesses or citizens to be used productively. Today, thanks to the supposed federal shutdown, our local corps of engineers managed to muster enough essential employees to spread traffic cones across the entrance to the public access area at Bonneville Dam on the Washington side. A nice boat launch, a mile of public fishing access and a chance to see the fishies all closed out of spite. That area requires less effort to maintain than it took to close it.
