The Strange Death Of Zachary Taylor

THE STRANGE DEATH OF ZACHARY TAYLOR

The indisputable fact is this: Zachary Taylor, the twelfth president of the United States, died on July 9, 1850. The official version tells us that he died from being exposed to the July sun for too long and then eating cucumbers, cherries and/or iced milk. Some people say he was poisoned. You wouldn't know, from the mainstream sources, that the evidence of arsenic poisoning is pretty strong.

I don't suppose anyone knows the 'truth', just supposition.

If rumours are to be believed...

Taylor was poisoned because he was a Nationalist and opposed to war. Apparently, he was a man of honor, who believed that he could be a moral President. He did not want to cooperate with certain parties whose goal was to foster conditions which would lead to civil war in the U.S. According to "the story", he was murdered by agents of the red shield. Who knows what's true?

Taylor was indeed a man of honor. In the Mexican War he was relieved of duty becasue he was too nice to Mexican prisoners of war. He let them go go to their families if they promised not to fight again, rather than keep them locked up.

Interesting

The only president to die in office that was not elected in the years ending in "0"... Tecumseh's Curse... Harrison, Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, Harding, FDR, JFK.

I didn't realize until now that early in his military career, Taylor served at Fort Knox (Vincennes, IN) and fought against Tecumseh under Harrison.

Taylor and Harding were the only two who died in circumstances that were not obvious in the cause of death.

There is not much history on the Presidents in what I refer to as the two neglected periods in American Presidential history. Van Buren through Buchanan and Hayes through Cleveland.
