What are the factions at the Daily Paul? Can you name them?

Some of the difficulty with getting a consensus on a site such as this one lies in the major differences between the various factions that call the DP their home.

Can you name them?

For instance:

Some believe the only way toward peace is to brutally dominate. Others believe having understanding and respect for what belongs to someone else fosters peace.

Some think what they've been told to believe in the name of religion is the highest authority. "God told me to kill the enemies of my leaders without question." Others recognize this has been exploited throughout history for reasons of plunder and conquest.

Some believe in a god that hovers exclusively over one country. Others believe infinity cannot be contained.

Some believe unquestionably what they see on TV. Others question everything, no matter the source.

Some are willing to send their children to die in wars to spread "democracy" while others recognize we were warned by our founding fathers of the dangers to a republic from democracy, or "tyranny of the majority."

Some lack the strength to consider they may have been duped by powerful people they trust, because this possibility is just too painful to consider. Others have more of a stomach for it and want the truth no matter how many sacred idols must be thrown in the fire.

Some believe a certain Country That Cannot Be Named is the only place on earth that God Has Chosen, and the rest of the world is damned to eternal hellfire. Others suspect a hidden motive to this "religious" meme.

Some feel the Daily Paul cannot be corrupted or neutralized, while others are more savvy to the games of destroying a particular freedom community through colored revolution tactics.

Some believe personal property rights and the keeping of the fruits of one's own labor is a fallacy, to be surrendered to the state on demand. Others see this as theft by force.

Some believe the way to safety is to surrender all liberty to a protecting state. Others recognize this as the world's oldest struggle against economic slavery.

Some in the DP like to lay blame on one party (Obama, the Fed, Zionists, neocons, bankers, Satan) while others hold all psychopaths and sociopaths equally responsible.

Democratic party = Use force to redistribute the wealth of others.
Republican party = Make war to keep the economy going.
Libertarian party = Pressure valve to harmlessly bleed off America's discontent.
Anarchists = Remove all obstacles to warlords and armed gangs taking over.

Problem is, we've got all these groups under the same tent sometimes. You see many of these present at the DP. Originally, the glue that held all this together was support of Ron Paul as a candidate. That's long gone, and his name is no longer featured on the masthead. Because we no longer have a steady, common touchstone, we drift apart, to be left to attacking each other according to the above differences.

Without a common war cry, I wonder where this is going.

Did I miss any DP factions that deserve recognition?

Please remember to speak with respect while discussing our differences.

While we're at it, let's have fun to see what this diverse group might actually agree on. What would you say on the DP if you just wanted upvotes?

Can I name them? Too easy...

"Men by their constitutions are naturally divided into two parties:

1. Those who fear and distrust the people, and wish to draw all powers from them into the hands of the higher classes.

2. Those who identify themselves with the people, have confidence in them, cherish and consider them as the most honest and safe, although not the most wise depositary of the public interests.

In every country these two parties exist, and in every one where they are free to think, speak, and write, they will declare themselves. Call them, therefore, Liberals and Serviles, Jacobins and Ultras, Whigs and Tories, Republicans and Federalists, Aristocrats and Democrats, or by whatever name you please, they are the same parties still and pursue the same object. The last one of Aristocrats and Democrats is the true one expressing the essence of all." - Thomas Jefferson to Henry Lee, 1824. ME 16:73

Next question...

Nice answer.

But now I have to go look up all those names to understand anything he's said!

We had our own 'granger' over on the homebrew biodiesel

Do any of you biodiesel'rs burn

black diesel?

Waste motor oil mixed with gasoline? In a Diesel engine?

Have you been huffing burlap? Did all the stew drain out of your ladle?

You're out your gourd, son. Get a waste oil furnace. Either that or talk to the electrical utility company about the mineral oil they fill the transformers with to keep them cool:

They sell it cheap because it eventually breaks down and has to be replaced

Pandacentricism will be our downfall.

No, waste oil mixed with diesel,

after the oil has been filtered and all water removed. Supposedly all you have to do is get the right viscosity after you filter it of the metals, anti-freeze and water, etc.. I've talked to people running it, the only problem I've seen with it is it's illegal as all get out to operate on the King's highway!

It's really not a healthy thing for the engine, but will work in

a pinch - if you're trapped in a snow storm or something and need to run the heater.

It messes up the injectors unless you tune 'em for the mix.

The same problem happens with oil furnaces - they can't be used with used cooking oil. Except for the one developed by this company http://www.inov8-intl.com/pages/waste-oil-furnace which inserts a pin to clean out the injector between/during each cycle.

Pandacentricism will be our downfall.

Actually there is another kind of black diesel

The black diesel I speak of is waste oil heated in a vat and separated into layers just like a refinery does to crude but on a smaller scale. The "Diesel" layer is poured off at only that level of separation and filtered very well. So it is actually and truly "Diesel" when done. I have the specs for building the unit somewhere I will try to find them. Thing is, I have been digging for info about refining synthetic oils? And by the way, I have found gasoline accidentally or even on purpose added in small amounts to diesel never hurt anything. I currently own a truck repair shop and diesel repair is what I have been doing for a living all my life.

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.

Hey Ira

I want to do that myself, I have some great links stashed away somewhere, I will dig them out for you. Apparently it is all in the proper filtration. But I can see no problems with burning it as long as it does not clog the injectors. I have a friend even burning straight Almond oil in his diesel bike because he gets it for next to nothing where he lives.

The definitions of "collective" and "faction"

From Wikipedia:

A collective is a group of entities that share or are motivated by at least one common issue or interest, or work together on a specific project(s) to achieve a common objective.

A political faction is a group of individuals, such as a political party, a trade union, or other group with a common political purpose. A faction or political party may include fragmented sub-factions, “parties within a party," which may be referred to as power blocs, or voting blocs. Members of factions band together as a way of achieving these goals and advancing their agenda and position within an organization.

Perhaps it was my bad, but I thought these words were essential to understanding our potential as a group, er, I mean disassociated individuals.

The thread is winding down. Thank you everyone for your responses. I have learned even more than I had hoped about the liberty movement.

Within this entire thread, just ONE individual volunteered an interest in working toward consensus for a common goal. That's... alarming.

A large number of people couldn't see past my use of the two harmless words defined here, and spent their entire energy distancing themselves from me because of it. That was a reaction I hadn't expected.

But even more, a surprising percentage of people posting here claim to be anarchists in some manner. I still can't figure out why they're here at all, since anarchy requires there being no political structure or philosophy whatsoever, which prevents political cooperation. Maybe they're just attracted to the sound of people complaining about government, as if that means we'll help them destroy or eliminate all forms of it. But Ron Paul never came close to suggesting anarchy as a solution, so what's up with that? I still can't figure out why the liberty movement is becoming the anarchy movement.

Several people engaged me on an intellectual level despite the heavy downvotes and criticism, and for that I am grateful.

i am "people of the standing rock"

I am Oyatee. I am a last Dream Dancer, I have a mission and and office like few others.

But in this day of Final Prayer we find echoes of our own heart and unity and strength. And power.

Do you want power?

I can tell you how to get it and keep it.

Do we want power?

Yes but it's a different sort.

We want the power in you and we are waiting for you to assume your priestly roles and give power and reassurance for WE ARE SERVANTS.

a WARRIOR is simply a servant by another code.

you want to fight?

still Ron Paul

I know he is not running but he is still spreading the message of liberty. I do like how Rand is taking stands. He is different from his dad, but I am hopeful he will stand against evil.

More factions I support - end the fed, sound money, sound foriegn policy, no entangling alliances. I could go on but I think you get the picture.

the only "faction" that

the only "faction" that interests me here, is the "faction" of the individual

What a moronic post.

I agree with the other comment: The Troll Faction.

If you aren't a troll, then you are someone who is contributer to the problem of pitting individuals and groups against each other. Your post is extremely divisive (which is why I would guess "troll") and identifying differences within a group seems counter-productive,

No, I don't think he's trolling,

He's holding reasonable conversation and being very civil. He's explained several times that it wasn't his intention to "collectivize" and therefore divide anyone. I don't think there was a need to call him a moron.

Simple Facts and Plain Arguments

He used labels and recognizes differences between various schools of thought, therefore he's a collectivist!

Funny how those who're so quick to use the 'C' label don't realize they're exactly the type of person they're complaining about. Par for the course, eh? When one points a finger at another, three are pointed back at you and all that jazz.

It's yet another overused and often misapplied label, as if there aren't enough of those...

And wouldn'tcha know it? I used the word 'they', I must be a collectivist too! It's contagious I tells ya, like catchin' teh gay! ;)

A signature used to be here!

Recognizing our differences

and choosing to respect them and set them aside to work more closely together is the life or death issue for any group. That's why politics is so difficult.

I'm more and more amazed at skillful politicians who can speak on complex issues and get any kind of support from more than just one group. How carefully you must speak to never leave a loose thread hanging that they can pick at!

Yes, like herding cats indeed.

If I was a troll, you'd see flame wars and infighting in this thread. Do you see any of that? Give up on the troll thing already.

Michael Nystrom's picture

In effect, this is what Ted Cruz did

He pulled out the flashlight and said, let's take a look at the different factions of the Republican party.

Let's get a showing of the cards. Who's holding what? How far are you willing to take a bluff? How do you know I'm bluffing.

By acting against reason, he induced a hysterical response in his enemies. He collected an incredible amount of information. What's he going to use it for?

What are you going to use it for? What's the fishing expedition for? How are you going to use this information.

I smell a part II coming.

I can't tell if you were asking me

or speaking to Cruz figuratively.

If it was to me, it's nothing more than wanting to look under the hood, to see what we're packing.

I wasn't aware Cruz did something similar. How did it work out for him? I haven't been following him much, but I found this.

Part II may very well include

Part II may very well include Rand, the debt ceiling, the Federal Reserve chairman...old and new, and auditing the Fed. All coming into play very soon. Very, very soon.

Fingers crossed.
