"We know God is in control..." What's the Meaning Behind those Words?

As I ponder the effect Ron Paul has had on America, like many of you I realize he was right when he said, "We must remember, elections are short-term efforts.
Revolutions are long-term projects."

"If you're in a campaign for only gaining power, that is one thing.
If your in a campaign to influence ideas and the future of the country, the campaign is never over."

"I don't mind playing a key role in the revolution, but it has to be more than a Ron Paul revolution. This whole effort was much bigger than one individual."

Our human nature tends to want control. Even as many Christians always parrot how "God is in control", especially when things don't go their way.

Admittedly I am speculating here... I think because I have come to a point in life where even some of the most brutal circumstances and events DO NOT diminish my faith in God and His interest in my life.

This world is not God's kingdom.
But somehow He has intervened in my life so many times I could write a book.
And I have not always been honorable in my life.
Yet He has never forsaken me.
Even when I was homeless I just had this feeling of richness and prosperity.
In fact I felt closer to Him then compared to times of having a million dollars in the bank.

~Good Night, And Good Luck~

God can turn things around to your benefit

Romans 8:28 King James Version

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

The scripture states that God can take a negative event and turn it around to benefit those that love Him.
Common Examples in the Bible: 1.Joseph being sold into slavery by his brothers
2. Daniel in the lions Den
3. The Hebrew Boys tossed in the fiery furnace for refusing to bow to any one other than God.
4.Sampson was used as laughing stock of his enemies but went out like a boss.
5.Jesus brutal, shameful death led to the resurrection, which was the greatest victory over evil in History.

Jesus said in John 16:33-KJV,

"33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: BUT BE OF GOOD CHEER ; I have overcome the world."

This is why i would say God is in control.

I don't view this as an excuse to let evil run rampant and be complacent. If you view God in the RIGHT way it will cause you fight even harder.

With all these pearls of wisdom and promises of great

price I feel so rich today to be called a child of God.

My favorite and lately most often used scripture bomb is " And by His stripes, we are healed..."

2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
And as a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness;
And when we see Him,
There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
3 He is despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

4 Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53: 2-5

New King James Version (NKJV)

Truly rich beyond measure!

"For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich" ~ 2 Corinthians 8:9 ~

Edit: This is a response to Barracuda Trader. This site has a tendency to issue free floating responses that don't appear to be responding to a post when in fact they are. Not sure why it does that.

Well, a couple of things.

One, I was not responding to you, but to phreedumb.

Second, I agree, one cannot be a self-appointed bringer of Godly knowledge.

Third, I get it. You have questions or problems with Christian doctrine. Great. I suggest you sincerely look for the answers. If you do so sincerely, and not just to confirm a pre-held disposition, you will find that knowledge. The Bible itself says that not all will understand.

But that is really slightly to the side here. The OP was about a common saying uttered by Christians (i.e., believers) and what it means. So while you may have your disagreements with Christianity, that seems somewhat peripheral, as does Phreedumb's hippy dippy pseudo intellectural basement babbling.

It may however be a great subject to debate in its own thread. Just MHO.

Have a great day.

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."-- Albert Einstein

You might be a "christian"

You might be a "christian" but I can tell you don't have the knowledge of the holy spirit within. Knowledge of God comes from within, not from the bible or preacher from without.

Those that have had the awakening the holy spirit brings know what I am on about. Once the spirit has been unlocked within, then those pages in the bible will actually make sense, and everything earthly will take on proper meaning.

The bible is for those with the eyes to see and ears to hear. Most churches are the Synagogues of Satan. People arriving in new cars and displaying a fashion show, telling themselves they are good and saved people, why they look down on the destitute and spiritually lost. They themselves are further from God than the open atheists.

pot meet kettle

first of all, no true Christian would ever go around claiming to know whether anyone else is a Christian or has been saved. That's just stupid and non scriptural. Jesus didn't come here and walk around being polite about everything. He called out phonies.

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."-- Albert Einstein

I can tell that the previous

I can tell that the previous comment comes from an earthly perspective. I don't intend to apply a put down to anyone, or hold myself up as superior. I am a flawed man, like all men. God's plan takes different paths for everyone.

You are correct about what I am saying being non scriptural. Words in a book can mean many different things, depending on where the reader is coming from. Those words can be used to justify genocide by some. Once the holy spirit has been unlocked in the heart, the bible and everything in this world becomes like a solved puzzle.

The thing is that people don't know what they don't know, and once a person does know, they just get it. It is hard to convey in words, because words don't really matter, if a person doesn't have the decoder ring to make sense of them.

Also, you say no christian would go around judging others, have you not judged me by declaring what is allowed, and is forbidden for a christian?

earthly perspective LOL

you got me. I'm a mere human. Carry on with your insults, all because I don't believe in your sovereign citizen hoax.

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."-- Albert Einstein

John 15:19

If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

sovereign citizen, nice pejorative. Assign a negative label, remove open mindedness, look at that person as less valuable than you. Standard operating procedure for a main stream church goer. You can't see yourself as awesome, unless there is someone else to look down upon by comparison. Also, no one can be wealthy, unless someone else is in poverty.

well

the word pharisee is a label as well. Jesus used it. Jesus called out the phonies. I call out you phony sov cit types. I find that quite compatible with Christianity. Continue yer hoaxing...it'll catch up one day I presume, and you'll regret it. Lieing to people and to yourself, is indeed a sin. Now tell me again how you're a better Christian than the pixels on this screen, I really want to know your in depth blabber.

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."-- Albert Einstein

Basement dweller (nice handle)

I'll let you in on a little secret...

I actually don't have any problem with Christianity (except pronunciation of some of the words)...

I'm raising the issue of how they (we) just blurt out "God is in control" almost like a superstitious chant. Or like saying "God Bless you" when people sneeze.

I mean just because life gets rough and even bloody sometimes doesn't mean God's not paying attention and the freight train got away from him. He never sleeps .. he never slumbers.

So I am totally cool with your responses even if I erred in thinking it was a response to me... because anything that makes us wrestle with this whole aspect of our existence is part of our continual awakening.

It's good to have committed partners to chew on our spirituality.

God knows it ain't gonna' happen in the aisle of a Nordstrom's.

Nordstroms, why not?

I don't view Nordstroms as being inherently ungodly. I've never had a wife though, which could change that perception!

It is indeed true that he never sleeps. He sees all of our screw ups, even the ones we don't know we're committing. The older I get, the more I think those are the bad ones...

Totally agree about it being something they just blurt out. I don't think they even think what that means or what it may sound like to non-believers.

I have a friend, who is now a retired lawyer, who went to a church where a person there told him that God caused him to be molested as a kid. He cussed the guy out, left, and never went back to that church. If that is what it means, that is wrong. Or so I think.

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."-- Albert Einstein

It's a thread about a common Christian saying

So you'll have to forgive me for giving you credit for answering the actual topic. Now I know you didn't intend to.

You can't have it both ways. You.cant simultaneously be a mere humble shrew who is doing God's bidding, and the self-appointed bringer of hidden knowledge from God. That just makes you, in my book, confused, and confusion is from the devil.

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."-- Albert Einstein

Finally something I can sink my teeth (tooths) into

Actually I'm not confused at all.
And you can't be a "self-appointed bringer of hidden knowledge from God" otherwise it wouldn't be from God! ER!

I have no doubt (today) that God is interested in every detail of my life.

But here are a few words from one who was far more righteous than me;
Job 9:9-19
9 God hung the stars in the sky - the Dipper, Orion, the Pleiades, and the stars of the south. 10 We cannot understand the great things he does, and to his miracles there is no end. 11 God passes by, but I cannot see him. 12 He takes what he wants, and no one can stop him; no one dares ask him, "What are you doing?" 13 God's anger is constant. He crushed his enemies who helped Rahab, the sea monster, oppose him. 14 So how can I find words to answer God? 15 Though I am innocent, all I can do is beg for mercy from God my judge. 16 Yet even then, if he lets me speak, I can't believe he would listen to me. 17 He sends storms to batter and bruise me without any reason at all. 18 He won't let me catch my breath; he has filled my life with bitterness. 19 Should I try force? Try force on God? Should I take him to court? Could anyone make him go?

Sounds a little confused to me!

You can tell just by looking at me that

I wanted Ron Paul to take CONTROL of the government and do what this TV ad said!

Bump

Thank you for sharing that.

It was particularly instructive for me to read those words that he said about the Revolution.

If your in a campaign to influence ideas and the future of the country, the campaign is never over."

Not only is it never over. It is B R O A D. Much broader than taking over the GOP. It ranges over the entire territory: News coverage, art, music, religion. Nothing is off limits when it comes to influencing the country with the ideas of Liberty.

Every expression an every venue is fair game. The only qualification I would place on it would be to try to be effective.

Don't be Miley Cyrus for Liberty. Yes, we can all see she's liberated from being Hannah Montana. She could have communicated that in a better way.

- Note: I'm not saying you're being Miley Cyrus. That just came up in my mind, and I realize that this form of communication is a "lossy" form. A lot of information gets lost that would be available if we were sitting in a bar having this beer together -

Cheers and thanks.

It has helped to clarify something for me, since the idea of working in the GOP bores me to tears.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. - Alan Watts

Miley Cyrus. That just came up in my mind

I think Miley has scarred a lot of minds lately

I always thought that was a hypocrisy

How can God give man free will and then still have control with the situations? Both can't be true, it must be one or the other.

Here's an example...

Saul was using his free will as a zealous Pharisee to commit religious genocide, murder, persecution against the early followers of Christ. He was on the way to carry out more of these choices of his will, when, if you believe the account in Acts, God exercised His own free will and overwhelmed Saul with a demonstration of His power and mercy on the road to Damascus.

It was still Saul's choice after that how to respond to that intervention, but God had the choice to intervene. Man has his free will; but God has His free will to outmaneuver us, to overwhelm us with a demonstration of Love, in His way, in His time. The chessmaster doesn't need to strip his novice opponent of the ability to make his own moves in order to ultimately win the game -- with victory in this case meaning that Love wins.

Saul responded, with his own free will, to an act of God's free will, and became known as the Apostle Paul. It's not either-or; it's both-and. :)

This is partly why I am confident that in the age to come, all will be reconciled:

- a God of Love never gives up on winning a person back to Love

and

- even with the most difficult case, the hardest of hearts, the most defiant of wills, the most desperately wayward of prodigals, I believe at some point God's free will intervention will break through all of that and achieve a 'road to Damascus' moment for each and every one of the creatures whom He loves, for them to respond to Love with their own free will. :)

Both human and divine free wills are preserved and achieved.

Yes. The paradox exists when one thinks in a carnal fashion.

An object can be known. A spiritual act challenges understanding.

Distinguish Verb and noun.

Free includes debt-free!

Inspiration

If the source of your thoughts are naturally inspired this is God. If your free will chooses to follow the divine inspiration gifted then God is in Control and you are now living within the protections of divine law.

The most powerful Law of Nature is Time. It is finite and we all will run out of it. Use this Law to your advantage, for it offers you infinite possibilities...

Careful there

"There is a way that seems right to a man but the end thereof is destruction."

You mean like Church

Not all Churches but the really big one's that are run by former convicted felons who spent time prison for fraud but are now "born again". This might be a path of destruction that many well intentioned people think is right.

The most powerful Law of Nature is Time. It is finite and we all will run out of it. Use this Law to your advantage, for it offers you infinite possibilities...

really big ones that are run by felons

can you name one such church? What a generalization.

Arent you a convict? Does that mean we should disregard you as well? Oh yeah, you're the chosen one, so you say...without saying it...

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."-- Albert Einstein

I can name several

but that would give you intel you do not deserve. I will give you a hint though: Goodings gave heavily...

If you are really good that is enough.

No I am not a convict because I reject all forms of harm to another. That is the beautiful part of protections of law. When you know you live within the Law's protections all criminals are easy to find.

I found you...

The most powerful Law of Nature is Time. It is finite and we all will run out of it. Use this Law to your advantage, for it offers you infinite possibilities...

oh brother

you come up empty - again! Just like in my sovereign citizens challenge thread.

You're always writing checks - big huge, lengthy, verbose, gibbering checks - that you're ass can't cash.

Its you

Who I won't reveal the detailed information to because you seem to be a threat to the rule of law and therefore deserve not the facts you may attempt to cover up or use for tyranny. The only thing you deserve is a criminal intelligence dossier made up on you to track your threat level to the destruction of law. Expect it.

Good bye sir.

The most powerful Law of Nature is Time. It is finite and we all will run out of it. Use this Law to your advantage, for it offers you infinite possibilities...

you make the incredible claims, you supply the proof

it's that simple.

You claim you can prove there's a strawman, let's see it. You can;'t prove anything.

You claim there are lots of "really big" churches run by felons. I asked you to name ONE. You can;t.

I see a pattern here...
