Obamacare fines to be seized directly from Americans' bank accounts

(NaturalNews) As more Americans wade into the complicated, confusing mess that is Obamacare and its health insurance exchanges, they are beginning to learn how punitive, punishing and threatening the law is going to be.

If the very recent Facebook post describing a man's experience when he attempted to sign up for Obamacare coverage is even halfway accurate, this law will turn out to be the most oppressive threat to our freedom since the days of King George. And that's not hyperbole.

The democrats are engaging in unison,

The democrats are engaging in unison, in this completely irrational delusional rhetoric that wouldn't stand up in a court of law. The whole of the Democrat party sounds like they're certifiably insane. Wrapping the delusional rhetoric in a condescending demeanor just makes you want to punch them in the head.

Obamacare and everyone else will seize your bank account

if you enroll online.

The only way Obamacare will

The only way Obamacare will be successful is by force - so the teaser penalties to pass the law will become oppressive enough that you have no other choice but to purchase. The sooner we stand up in unison and say no, the better.

It could be possible,

It could be possible, depending on how many family members go without insurance. I believe in 2015 it will be a fine of $650/year per family member, and goes UP yearly. It is in all ways horrible.

There's always a way out...

mass disobedience in the form of account closures and mass demand for check cashing facilities, so much so that they may become as competitive in their function as banking institutions once were...they cannot garnish an account you do not have. Yes, they could still explore the garnishment of wages directly, but how many employers will set idly by while their workforce is plundered of the earnings they bankroll?

The cascading effects of mass disobedience will prompt a new era of finance.

Dude, King George?

Nowhere near as oppressive as our fascist system.

Not sure if this article is fact or exaggeration?

But as time passes, I'm sure they will use such draconian methods.

Obamacare is the biggest weapon they have to bankrupt every single family in the US.

That is the purpose and design of the program. Make no mistake about it. If you still have some doubts look around... Were allowing them to commit national suicide in every way possible.

If it weren't for the source being Natural News

I might believe it. But natural news is the one of the top ten most exaggerating unreliable dump holes on the web which leaves me thinking this is most likely BS.

Never overstate the case

Particularly if based on questionable and in this case more than questionable facts. Basing argument on propaganda and outright misinformation will inevitably cause you to commit the one unforgivable sin on the art of persuasion - looking stupid.

There is plenty to object to without making things up or blindly swallowing whatever you read. Thanks to the others who quickly debunked this.

like I am going to close my bank account.

ok here is a snipet from the article. (worth reading in full)

A man who attempted to sign up for Obamacare online was told that a fine of over $4,000 dollars a year for refusing to take out mandatory health insurance could be taken directly from his bank account, and that his drivers license would be suspended and a federal tax lien placed against his home, according to an entry on the HealthCare.gov Facebook page.

If that information is legitimate, Obamacare's implementation is going to be a helluva lot more draconian than anyone, from Nancy Pelosi, to Harry Reid, to President Obama himself, led the country to believe.

Potential Obamacare customer Will Sheehan says that, when he tried to sign up for Obamacare and then register to opt out, he received a most threatening warning. His full post reads:

"I actually made it through this morning at 8:00 A.M. I have a preexisting condition (Type 1 Diabetes) and my income base was 45K-55K annually I chose tier 2 "Silver Plan" and my monthly premiums came out to $597.00 with $13,988 yearly deductible!!! There is NO POSSIBLE way that I can afford this so I "opt-out" and chose to continue along with no insurance.

I received an email tonight at 5:00 P.M. informing me that my fine would be $4,037 and could be attached to my yearly income tax return. Then you make it to the "REPERCUSSIONS PORTION" for "non-payment" of yearly fine. First, your drivers license will be suspended until paid, and if you go 24 consecutive months with "Non-Payment" and you happen to be a home owner, you will have a federal tax lien placed on your home. You can agree to give your bank information so that they can easy "Automatically withdraw" your "penalties" weekly, bi-weekly or monthly! This by no means is "Free" or even "Affordable."

Actually, not worth reading at all unless you consider facebook and myspace posts as reliable sources of information.

Hey we have to pass the bill...

...to find out what is in it.

Time to boycott bank

Time to boycott bank accounts... Everyone, go get your money out of the bank right this instant. Dont let these criminal bastards hold your money hostage anymore than they already do. Ask your employer to pay you by check instead of direct deposit. Keep your cash out of the system. Starve them.

St@rve them & support the grey economy. Cyprus style confisc@tion is coming reg@rdless when the next crisis hits, so getting c@sh out sooner seems very prudent.

Whether this story is accurate or not, one thing is clear.

These insurance policies are not exactly affordable.

With these large deductibles ($14,000 for silver), high co-pays (30% for silver), and what seems to me to be shockingly high premiums, how will people who can't afford insurance today in the existing market begin to afford Obamainsurance, even with subsidies?

And they when people won't or more likely can't comply, the heavy hand of tyranny is ready to plunder what little you might have as a punishment for living under their jurisdiction.

This really is insanity. We have a public that eats carb laden, adulterated food that is marginally nourishing and disease producing, lives in an increasingly toxic environment, is impoverished and controlled by laws that rig markets in favor of the few at the expense of the many, is then treated by a medical system based on monopoly drug profits and conventionalized questionable knowledge, and now we are being forced to submit further to an insurance law that could have only been written by patients in a mental hospital while heavily medicated.

Do you think our rulers will be surprised when the public erupts in rebellion? The revolution point is fast approaching. That point is reached when the pain and suffering for enough of us from slavery exceeds the pain and suffering from revolution.

"Bend over and grab your ankles" should be etched in stone at the entrance to every government building and every government office.

Where are you seeing deductibles that high?

The highest annual out-of-pocket total (deductible + copays, etc., but not including premiums) that I've seen is $12,700 for a family. That's still quite a bit, and personally I'd gladly take an even higher deductible if it meant lower premiums. You used to be able to buy that kind of insurance but not any more, or at least not compliant with Obamacare.

I wasn't about to give information to the government site,

but in one Daily Paul thread (which I can't find this moment) there was a reference to a site where you could put in pertinent data and find what the premiums, deductibles, etc would be for a person or couple of specific ages and income level, and find out what the premium and subsidy, if any, would be. The silver plan, second cheapest, had a $13,988 annual deductible and a 30% co-pay.

If I find the site again I will update this post with reference to the site.

The $13,988 was also referenced in the original facebook post that was the basis for this thread.

But really, how different is $14,000 or the $12,700 you reference to someone who already is choosing to not carry insurance because they can't afford it? In either case it would be a disaster for most people who are financially pressed.

"Bend over and grab your ankles" should be etched in stone at the entrance to every government building and every government office.

I haven't either

I guess it depends on the state, but just out of curiosity I've checked several states without having to give any personal information.

The max out-of-pocket, as I understand it, is $12,700/year for deductibles + copay, and that's consistent with all the plans I've seen. The highest o-o-p I can find for my family (minimum payment) is under $7,000 per year. If I were under 30 I could get a catastrophic policy for $100/month with a max $6,300/year out of pocket if I got sick.

The numbers in that facebook thing are bogus. The penalty would only be that high if his income was over $400,000, the pre-existing condition doesn't affect the rate or the penalty, the penalty doesn't even show up on your tax forms until 2015, the deductible is over the maximum out-of-pocket, lots of red flags. And as several have pointed out, if it were true then there would be many, many corroborating stories and we'd see copies of the actual threatening emails, etc. Someone just made some shit up. Probably someone just trying to make the anti-Obamacare side look bad.

But really, how different is $14,000 or the $12,700 you reference to someone who already is choosing to not carry insurance because they can't afford it?

The $12,700 is the max out-of-pocket, so it's not that much plus 30% over that. That's the cap, and for a lot of plans the cap is lower. If it's through your employer it's a lot lower.

But I take your point, the premiums even after the subsidy will be a be a hardship for many. But I'd focus on the premiums to make that case, since anyone in anything like that situation who needs more than $12,000 in medical expenses in a year is going to be in for some hardship anyway, with or without the insurance.

Remind me never to read

Remind me never to read Natural News if this is the kind of trash I can expect to find there.

Oh, a guy made a Facebook post? Time to write a hyperbolic article!

I dislike Obamacare as much as the next guy, but perpetuating myths such as this does no good.

Right on!

Seriously, since when is a facebook post considered a reliable & verifiable source of news?

NaturalNews.com is an absolute joke to even consider writing this article let alone publishing it.

NOW, it may be coming, but it

NOW, it may be coming, but it is NOT true right now. In fact the IRS CANNOT take money from you regarding Obamacare.. so this is just hyperbole... Don't believe me, see below:

"While the IRS can add an Obamacare penalty to the balance of taxes due, the law does not give the agency power to go after taxpayers who fail to pay the penalties."

"In the case of any failure by a taxpayer to timely pay any penalty imposed by this section,” Section 1501 of the Affordable Care Act reads, “Such taxpayer shall not be subject to any criminal prosecution or penalty with respect to such failure.”

Here is the ACTUAL legislation:

In the case of any failure by a taxpayer to timely pay any penalty imposed by this section, such taxpayer shall not be subject to any criminal prosecution or penalty with respect to such failure. (B) LIMITATIONS ON LIENS AND LEVIES. The Secretary shall not (i) file notice of lien with respect to any property of a taxpayer by reason of any failure to pay the penalty imposed by this section, or (ii) levy on any such property with respect to such failure.."

See: http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h3590/text?version=enr&...

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...

I have one problem with your assessment.

I understand it as you say. The only way I have heard that the IRS can collect is by deduction from your refund if you have one.

The problem with your response is when you say "it MAY be coming." I would say look at history and you will "KNOW it is coming." Standard operating procedure.

The government should make us laugh...

John Roberts declared the penalty a tax. A tax makes Obamacare constitutional. The IRS can not only seize your bank account for unpaid taxes, it can seize your property.

fireant's picture

Roberts has no authority to impose a tax.

The law was written as a penalty, specifically NOT as a tax. This is an assault upon the Constitution. If a tax makes the law Constitutional, fine, but it has to be enacted by the legislature and originate in the House.
