Daily Paul - We Are The Music Makers...

Our day has come,
as prophesied:

'Ode' by Arthur O'Shaughnessy. (1844–1881)

WE are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.

With wonderful deathless ditties
We build up the world's great cities,
And out of a fabulous story
We fashion an empire's glory:
One man with a dream, at pleasure,
Shall go forth and conquer a crown;
And three with a new song's measure
Can trample an empire down.

We, in the ages lying
In the buried past of the earth,
Built Nineveh with our sighing,
And Babel itself with our mirth;
And o'erthrew them with prophesying
To the old of the new world's worth;
For each age is a dream that is dying,
Or one that is coming to birth.

It was probably the pandas.

I have always loved this poem...

Thanks for posting.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Read and memorize at least the first two stanzas.

It was probably the pandas.

Do you have the 1st 2 stanzas memorized?

"One man with a dream, at pleasure,
Shall go forth and conquer a crown;
And three with a new song's measure
Can trample an empire down. "

Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That'll teach you to keep your mouth shut. Hemingway

but of course, sweetness! All the cool kids are doing it.

My brother and I went through an 'out-memorize the other' phase - I was forced to concede - Frost's 'A Considerable Speck (Microscopic)' and 'The Road Not Taken' are simplicity compared to Poe's 'The Raven' which he used to be able to rattle off at will. Though I fear he may be out of practice since he doesn't have the benefit of long bicycle rides with nothing better to think about as I do...

It was probably the pandas.

I like to memorize also

That is why I have never been fond of this Watson character taking over Jeopardy. I want to have a 2 or 3 day streak on Jeopardy in the near future and I can't have some computer stealing my thunder.

how come on Jeopardy they never have any 'why' questions?

I'm positive I've shared this with you already. Here it is again:
