Obamacare Facebook Erupts With Citizen Premium Price Shock

On Thursday, the government's official Obamacare Facebook page was riddled with people expressing sticker shock over the government's high cost premiums after struggling for hours to wade through the technical failures vexing Obamacare exchanges all across the country.

"I am so disappointed," wrote one woman. "These prices are outrageous and there are huge deductibles. No one can afford this!" The comment received 169 "likes."

"There is NO WAY I can afford it," said one commenter after using the Kaiser Subsidy Calculator. "Heck right now I couldn't afford an extra 10$ [sic] a month...and oh apparently I make to [sic] much at 8.55/hour to get subsidies."

I have talked with many fools who believed that ObombaCare meant that everyone was getting free healthcare! I shit you not. They are all finding out that they were lied to. The blowback is coming for barry o.

My take is that if your

My take is that if your premiums are rising, its because you're subsidizing someone else who wasn't paying for insurance. Plus all the administrative and bureaucratic nonsense that has to be paid for.

Why would premiums rise?

we have always paid for those who didn't pay. doctors and hospitals who were stiffed by non payment passed that loss on to those who did pay. Meaning all the bills have always been paid by the premiums we have always had. So why would premiums go up?

True, I think. Then perhaps

True, I think. Then perhaps the higher premiums are to cover the half a billion dollar non-working website they bought from the canadians.

I don't understand Lawyer speak

But can anyone elaborate on this: It's section (g) subsection (A) of 26 "USC § 5000A - Requirement to maintain minimum essential coverage"
(g) Administration and procedure
(1) In general
The penalty provided by this section shall be paid upon notice and demand by the Secretary, and except as provided in paragraph (2), shall be assessed and collected in the same manner as an assessable penalty under subchapter B of chapter 68.
(2) Special rules
Notwithstanding any other provision of law—
(A) Waiver of criminal penalties
In the case of any failure by a taxpayer to timely pay any penalty imposed by this section, such taxpayer shall not be subject to any criminal prosecution or penalty with respect to such failure.
(B) Limitations on liens and levies
The Secretary shall not—
(i) file notice of lien with respect to any property of a taxpayer by reason of any failure to pay the penalty imposed by this section, or
(ii) levy on any such property with respect to such failure.
So does this mean that if we don't pay the penalty, nothing will be done to us?

let "We the people" get it on a ballot to nullify obamacare

Do we want to get rid of it, or just talk about how bad it is. Lets hang together or we'll hang separately.

Lets get organize and get petitions together so we can get it on a ballot.

How petty concerns of them

C'mon, these folks really are nitpicking on silly financial details, now! I can't believe how easily they can lose sight that it's all about "the greatness of universal 'healthcare'", for crying out loud!

"Universal" : that's the beauty of it, can't they admit it?!

This boondoggle...

is going to push many people into under the table work to keep the g-man thinking they are destitute.

People will be making money and getting free healthcare (at least MediCal in California).

I used the calculator for my state

About $600 per month, $19,000 annual deductible, 80% coverage. That's my monthly rent for a terrible insurance plan.

I already wasn't going to sign up, but man. What are they thinking with rates like that?

What state is that?

If you don't mind saying, what state is that? I've been trying various numbers in the calculators for several states, and haven't seen anything close to a $19,000 deductible even for the catastrophic insurance that a few people qualify for (and that would be my first choice if they'd let me buy it). I've only seen the o-o-p max at $12,700 a few times, in California, and I thought that was a max imposed by the legislation.

Small business owner, plus bad health history

means they want more fees and higher insurance deductible, also for employees.

This is in rural Montana.

Oh, I see what you mean! I think I meant to write $13,000. Had just gotten done with using a phone, I wasn't looking at the number pad, used the left hand for some and the right hand for others. It's been one of those days. :)

Thanks for the reply

Pre-existing conditions shouldn't result in a higher deductible or higher fees, after 1/1/14. Are you sure about that? And the high deductible / out-of-pocket is a shame. In most states it looks like it wouldn't be nearly that high but one thing I've seen from checking different exchanges is that what you can get varies widely from state to state.

If you have fewer than 50 employees, I'm curious why the new regulations don't convince you to drop coverage for your employees, and just give them the money directly that you used to pay for insurance. Do the employees still want it as a benefit even if it's going to have to switch to obamacare? It would be interesting to hear the employer's side of that decision.

My Eureka moment

I finally figured out why they called Obamacare "affordable".
Well, since the lobbyists for Health Insurance corps wrote it, they view the entire bill from their perspective.

Therefore, the affordable part only applies to their clients and not to the Americans.

Obamacare makes it more "affordable" for them to run business...

My response:

Did you vote for Obama? Yes? Well then deal with it.

Did you vote for Romney? Yes? Well then deal with it.

Did you not vote in 2012? Yes? Well then deal with it.

I don't like

that response. People make mistakes. I think a better response is: Do Not Comply. The government does NOT own you. WE are supposed to be the government.

I wouldn't

know about sticker shock. I haven't bothered looking (and won't).

The president compares apples and oranges.

What he said at the press conference didn't make sense to me. Did I misunderstand something? He was bragging that the traffic (a million users) at the new gov't healthcare site drew 5X the amount of people who'd ever been on Medicaredotgov at one time. As if that wouldn't be expected? Um, does he remember when Nancy Pelosi said the bill would need to be passed for us to find out what was in it? Think, just maybe, that the FIRST DAY the site was open, people were just a little curious as to the ACTUAL EFFECT on them? What does that have to do with the traffic rate of the Medicare site?

Politicians! It's kind of funny how, despite the negative reaction to what people discovered, he can still stand there and try to put a positive spin on it. I like this comment by some Democrat: "Is obozo watching or even hearing about this? Sticker shock equals more votes for the right in 2014. Thanks obozo."

of the millions who went to the site

how many actually applied for and received their insurance?

I here it's a few hundred.
