Iwo Jima Memorial Closed, Barricades Erected (Update: Vets Break Through)

Another open-air memorial in the Washington area is closed and barricaded off: the Iwo Jima Memorial, just across the bridge from D.C. in Rosslyn, Virginia. A source sends along this picture of the barricade set-up at the memorial, which is also called the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial:

UPDATE: I'm told, "The Syracuse Honor Flight just knocked down the barrier and a couple hundred of them are at the Memorial now."

Build another memorial

Build another memorial for the vets who stormed the barricade and broke their way through to the memorial. lol

I'll Bet They Open Back Up

...for the annual Marine Corps Marathon which takes place later this month. It starts and finishes at the Iwo Jima Memorial.

Just think, men who are 60

Just think, men who are 60 years older than today's youth have bigger balls than they do.

Their actions speak louder than words.

Never be afraid to ask simple questions.

I think most of the survivors of Iwo Jima

are in their late 80 or 90's. My father-in-law was one of the older men during the battle and he was 26 in 1945. He never got to visit the memorial but these guys would have made him proud.

Great Pics...!!!
