Folks in Great Smoky Mountains Reaching Breaking Point

Folks who live in the Great Smoky Mountains have just about reached their breaking point with the federal government.

“It’s almost like they are pushing to see how far they can push before the American people say enough is enough,” said Ed Mitchell, the mayor of Blount County, Tenn. “We were founded on a declaration of independence. And they are about to push the people to the line again.”

The National Park Service also closed the Foothills Parkway, a major thoroughfare in the county. The closure came without warning and left the local school district scrambling to get children back to their homes.

The Solution to the Problem

One of our solutions might be to declare some of the debts to be odious debts.

Google (or yahoo, or bing, etc.) "Odious Debt". There is a good (but long) video explaining this principle.

There is a way to get back all unconstitutionally held federal lands, but we have to do it in a lawful manner.

In the meantime, temporarily, I believe the law of necessity could be used by local sheriffs to provide relief to the people affected by the stupidity of the federal government and their clear desire to bring as much pain and inconvenience to the American people during this shutdown.

Personally, I hope the shutdown continues, and Congress continues to work on funding only constitutional and essential aspects of the federal government, one area at a time.

Liberty is the ability to do what you ought to do.

We only have ourselves to blame!

Times like this brings out the fury of the American people directed at their government. But what most Americans are forgetting is that it is OUR government. WE empowered the government, and WE have created a monster.

Here's a perfect example, a quote from FoxNews.com:

"One of the areas shut down is the popular Cades Cove – an old community that was donated by local residents to the federal government some 75 years ago, the mayor said."

My question is, "Why would anyone give land to the federal government unless they are ignorant of the Constitution's limitation of land the federal government can own?"

Our ignorance and the ignorance of our fathers is to blame.
We must set about to undo those mistakes, not just complain about them. Lament - don't protest. Repent - don't complain.

If the American people will begin to lament and repent of their past errors, we can wake up more people, get the critical mass we need and then begin to do something about undoing the mistakes of the past.

If you sell something you value that you inherited because you wanted the money for something else, you are unjust to complain about it and try to get it back in some unlawful manner or by just crying foul. Take your medicine and learn to live by principles that will protect you from selling something you ought not sell, especially to someone you ought not sell it to. Buyers do not commit a foul when they purchase something that is offered them for sale. If the seller has regrets - too bad! All you can do is try to buy it back.

Whining gets you nowhere.

The unalterable truth of

The unalterable truth of these words:

"...Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security." — The Declaration of Independence

"The United States can pay any debt it has because we can always print money to do that." — Alan Greenspan

Anyone who even considers the

Anyone who even considers the fact that this sort of thing is truly caused by a government shutdown, when, in most cases, state or private funds are mostly used are just simply so ignorant that I hope they keep their mouths shut and do not spread such quality. Seems like this particular Mayor knows the truth. I hope they buy the whole land back or undonate it, or something.

Unbelievable, there is no reason for this

except to antagonize on purpose. They cannot deny ingress and egress from private property. Call the Sheriffs.

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.

We should just annex the land from the federal government

All problems solved.

Exactly

That's exactly what I was wondering. And to think how much more money the states could make.

Problem solved.

Drive a bull dozer through the barriers and reopen the road.

Keep it up

Mother fu**ers. Keep it up. I think we all need to remember that the reaction may be exactly what they want. At least they think they want it. Personally, I think they underestimate the American people...grossly.

Maybe Boehner should be

offering a clean bill to return the federal lands to the states.
