Return All National Parks to the States

I wish somebody would propose this in Congress during the Shutdown. That would be outstanding politics! See draft letter in comments section....

"It’s time that so called “federal lands” should be returned to the states. Wisconsin governor Scott Walker has the right idea. He has "defied the federal government by refusing to close popular state properties at the behest of the National Park Service."

“Because of the federal government shutdown, all national parks are closed and National Park Service webpages are not operating. For more information, go to www.doi.gov”

Nationally, the United States government has direct ownership of almost 650 million acres of land — nearly 30% of its total territory. Here’s a list of the percentages of the top ten states where the land is owned by the Federal Government:

Re: Request Sponsorship of “The Return of Federal Parks to States Redress Act”

Dear (Congressman/woman):

My name is (DP Constituent Full Name) and I am a member of the Daily Paul Forum and a resident of (City, State). I am writing to request your sponsorship of an Act that would facilitate a rapid transition of Federal Parks back to the States upon request. At a minimum it should also provide States full control of Federal Parks during a Government shutdown and control over access roads and throughways. Under no condition shall the Federal Government have the right to evict or restrict access to private homes and businesses.

The recent shutdown has demonstrated the Federal Government's increasing arrogance and willingness to trample States rights and the private property of citizen located near and around Federal Parks. The recently bloated nature of the Federal Government and heavy handedness in dealing with the States needs to be addresses.

The citizens of the Daily Paul Liberty Forum are represented by individuals from around the country and we request that you spearhead the sponsorship of "The Return of Federal Parks to States Redress Act” and send a strong message to the Federal Government's overreach in power and arrogance toward the citizens of this country.

Sincerely,
(Your Name)

Secession would solve it in one go.

Need to free the states, and let each sink or swim.

This would be Awesome, but...

...isn't it too late? Are not most of what was our public lands and national monuments now collateral on the debt??

Can't this be done without

Can't this be done without Congressional approval? Can't the states simply take possession of the Federal Govt. land in their states and enforce it the local sheriff and police departments? Maybe it is time for the states to setup their militia and start defending its land.

In some DP threads, I've read that it is unconstitutional for the Federal Government to own any land. If that's the case can't the states take back the land without the need for any new Federal law or amendment?

Working draft of request for new Act of Congress from DPers

Below I'm going to draft a letter to a Congressional representative requesting an Act of Congress to return Federal Parks to the States upon application in the light of the Federal Governments recent arrogance. We shouldn't have to see 90 yr old WWII vets charging open air moments in wheel chairs either.

I will be updating it over the next day or so. Please provide comments on the draft and voice your support so it can be referenced in the letter. I will start with an outline shortly. For those who watch Congress closely please remember to suggest which Congressmen are most likely to listen to such a request. Keep checking up - outline coming up, then draft...

We need a new Act of Congress to actively give back the land

Looks like their fighting over Congressional agreements during statehood in the 1800's and the legal rights local should have under those agreements.

This time things are different and people from the Smoky Mountains to the Great lakes to out West are upset at the abuse. I think it's best not to aim for all Federal lands right now but an Act of Congress that will ride the political fight in Washington and sentiment around the country and send a solid rebuff to the Federal Government's overreach and arrogance.

We need a Congressman to propose a Act of Congress to give back the Federal parks!

So I ask you: who in Congress is the most likely Congressman that would put forth such a bill and do we a have token DPer from that state willing to submit our request for redress?

Amen, Amen!

Very good point. Now's the time to act whether at the state level or federal.

Actually, I think state nullification of federal seizures of the people's lands would be the better route.

Let's just take it back!

One caveat: It's quite possible and probable that foreign nations may be the actual owners of some of these Parks because of unclassified, dirty deals between various administrations and international bankers.

Can anyone shed more light on this, with documentation, for the DP community?

Yes... and health care!

Obama's tactics will backfire as people see that they are witnessing a small dose of a greater hell that could occur if ObamaCare is fully enacted. ObamaCare intends to tie the largesse of health care across the board into national management. Imagine the power the White House would wield if instead of just closing national parks and such, it closed hospitals or even merely "non-essential" medical services. Talk about making it as painful as possible... whew! o_o

Be the only national park.

The states have to take them back

The Feds will never give them back voluntarily.

It's begun already.

Any DPers in Idaho willing submit a request....

What a great article. Thanks for the link. I hope Utah gets their land back. This is issue is so hot right now around the country and underscores exactly how big, unwanted and intrusive the Federal Government has gotten. We should strike while the iron is hot. If only one Congressman would submit a Bill in Congress to return all parks that message would be incredible!

I'd like to see 50 states deciding what to do with their own land, what to teach in their own schools and how fast they drive on the highway.

What we need is a DPer in Idaho or Utah willing to forward our complaints to their Congressman for new Act in Congress on behalf of the states!

Any volunteers! I'll help draft the summary of our complaints that we list. Perhaps we can suggest a joint Utah/Idaho sponsored bill!

I think Utah is already doing this!

I believe there have already been threads on here about Utah taking back their land from the gov co. Great idea I hope all the States do this!!

We need a national restoration Act of States rights in this area

From what i read they have not proposed an Act of Congress but challenge to the interruption of their particular states agreement with the Federal Gov. We need an Act to facilitate the return of Utah land and all other States and not have them arguing over interpretation of what was written long ago on a state by state basis.
