My wife works at a major hospital and there is rumor if she denies the flu shot...

she will be fired. Wow, the tyranny has crept up to my own door. It used to be that if you denied it you had to wear a mask over your face, now there is rumor they will fire you. Wow what a crossroads.

Reality check

Once you clock in most of the time you lose your personal liberties. You can refuse and walk out or challenge it. Either way the private establishment has the last word unless you bring your argument to the Supreme Court.

Refuse or Wear a Mask---

Same with my wife..mandatory or wear a face mask 100% during work.
2 years ago she did insist on the vaccine without the Thimerosal.

Fifteen Things You Can Do If You Are Forced to Take a Flu Shot

Dr Blaylock’s List of suggestions on How to Reduce the Toxic Effects of the A/H1N1 Vaccine, is as follows:

1. Number one on the list says Dr Blaylock, is to bring a cold pack with you and place it on the site of the injection as soon as you can, as this will block the immune reaction. Once you get home, continue using a cold pack throughout the day. If you continue to have immune reactions the following day, have cold showers and continue with the cold press.

Good Luck

We went through this in Michigan and the deal is this. Either get the shot or it was nice knowing you.

I even posted about it here on DP 2 or 3 years ago.

My wife lied and told them she got it already at the local CVS. They figured that one out and require proof.

I'm waiting for someone to take this one to the Supreme Court over civil liberties violation.

No problem, all our nurses got the shot.

Never mind the shot is %5 effective at best and has potential side effects.

And Nurses that got the shot, kept their job, because they cared about the patients.

If the immune system is going to boot camp induced by the vaccine, 90 nutrients are essential to keep it healthy.

My kid has to

Get certain shots..she works with mentally handicapped adults...so far..no flu shot..until next year..then it will be policy there.

Old news. The nurses at Fort Sumter decided...

that they were "manifestly futile and not within the scope of the instructions verbally given to us".

Deny it anyways

and sue them if they fire you. Did her application say she had to take a flu shot? I doubt it.

What a liberal point of view!

If you don't get your way, you sue!

Like it or not, being a supporter of liberty means dealing with people and institutions who make bad decisions.

Just find another place to work if you don't like the rules where you're currently employed.

Or better yet, if you're so smart go start your own hospital and don't force people to get flu shots.

When you don't get your way, do something productive. Suing is not productive in 95% of cases. Its a cop-out.

Oh shut up

The Job is obviously forcing you to take a shot when your job is to be a NURSE! That's liberal!

The only way to win is to sue them. Then maybe next time, they won't do it.

My son's girlfriend is a nurse

She had to get the shot or walk so she got it and a few days later
she got the flu.So the shot either gave her the flu or at the very least, did not prevent her from getting it.

My wife

Works for Methodist Hospital in Houston and she has to take the Flu shot every year (required) This year she got sick right after she took it.

Do your best have no expectations

I worked in a hospital. All

I worked in a hospital. All employees were required to have had a TB test (if positive a Chest X-ray as well), DPT, Hep B, Hep A (depending on what you do), MMR vaccines and a flu shot. This is policy for most, if not all, health care settings.

Nothing wrong with this.

It's not the Feds making her get flu shot it's her employer. If she doesn't like it she's free to leave and find employment somewhere else.

Frankly it makes sense for the hospital to require this as basic hedge against law suits

If she passed the flu onto a patient in the hospital with an already weak immune system and they died what do you think would happen? Likely the hospital would be sued for millions for knowingly putting that patient at risk.

Now even if she still passed the flu onto someone else the hospital can say it took every measure to avoid it.

A job

cannot force you to take a shot. Unless it was in the application.

No but they can fire you for not getting one.

I'm sure the rules vary by state, but Indiana (where I live) is an "At Will Employment" State.

That means an employee can be dismissed by an employer for any reason (that is, without having to establish "just cause" for termination), and without warning.

Frankly its a much cleaner and better way to do business.

Iif anything this is an example of how markets self regulate. It also points out a fact that many libertarians ignore: the state is not the only opprresive body in human society. Free voluntary exchange (capitalism) does not imply everyone will always make the best nor smartest decision, thats why there will always be winners and loosers. A free society does stress the importance of intelligence, education and critical thinking; if not one is surely to be taken advantage of and will voluntarily enter into agreements that do not necesarily benefit them.

Do they force her to washher hands with soap as well?

A women (nurse) in Indiana got fired over this last year btw.

Twisted logic though.

Because you're MORE likely to get the flu or become ill by GETTING the flu shot. So why not sue BECAUSE of the flu shot.

"It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a rEVOLution before tomorrow morning." - Henry Ford

That's certainly debatable but frankly irreverent in this case

In a free society people and companies are allowed to have opposing opinions for or against the flu shot. As someone else stated, things like this are best left to the market to decide. If all the nurses quit and patients stop coming over this rule, they'll likely change it.

Good observation and tough

Good observation and tough medicine. The hospital is forcing employees to do this, something that probably hurts their own bodies more than helps them, asking them to sacrifice for the company because flu shots are viewed as protecting the patients. This is one of many reasons I did not choose to go into this line of work, and if I did, one of many reasons to find an employer that gives more freedom or start a new business and provide an alternative for patients to choose from.

This is not a rumour...

If you are a Nurse and you refuse this shot and can't show where you've been immunized you will no longer be employed.

Dear Tog2476,

This is not a rumor. There are a lot of health care professionals that have to be vaccinated before they can work. People do not realize the extent of govt. control on the health-pharma industry. My brother wanted his amalgams (mercury cavity fillings) removed. Most dentists agreed with him that mercury fillings were potentially hazardous, but said they could not do that in fear of losing their license. I can not imagine the control they will have if people do not stand up to Obamacare. The same is being done to school children not vaccinated. If people think the govt. cares if you get vaccinated they are right - but for the wrong reasons. A year ago there were numerous post about the push for vaccinations. Every street corner has signs promoting the flu vaccine ....

Mercury fillings are removed all the time

for cosmetic reasons.

Leges sine moribus vanae

Yes, like your point - but

Yes, like your point - but as a dentist if you say they are mercury and potentially hazardous - they can and have taken licenses.

Happened to a friend of a friend

Not sure the circumstances but he no longer works at the hospital... I can understand their position though. Yea I am bored...

This is not uncommon

This is not uncommon in health care. I work as a contractor for several major hospitals, and their employees must get a flu shot every year. Some make you get the Hepatitis B vaccine depending on what department you work in. Some don't allow employees to use any tobacco products whatsoever--even if it's not on company property.
