Obamacare Is A Raw Deal For Millennials

By Bob Graboyes, US News
October 7, 2013

It's clear that millennials will be hammered by Obamacare, but most of the analyses wending their way through the media understate the negative impact the law will have on the cost and quality of health insurance for these 20- and 30-somethings. The problem is that Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act, takes money from a variety of pockets, and many or most of the flurry of analyses focus on insurance premiums in isolation.

Millennials' life prospects have already suffered under the weight of the Great Recession and its aftermath. Their job markets are shaky and their student loans large. Now, large health insurance premiums and other costs hidden in the ACA will further dim those prospects.

Choosing a state at random, the Manhattan Institute reports that before the ACA, the average 27-year-old male in Arkansas could buy a health insurance policy for roughly $54 a month. According to the White House website, on the ACA exchange, the average lowest-priced plan will be three times more expensive, costing him around $181 a month – a 235 percent increase. If he were to purchase a stripped-down catastrophic plan, it would cost roughly $135 per month, two-and-a-half times more than his current insurance.

When you're at the bottom of a demographic pyramid scheme,

expect to be crushed.

Are you entitled to healthcare??

This is how the liberals answer a simple question with one libertarian- grand prize winner.

Obamacare is true Communism

Obamacare is true Communism at work. All must suffer equally to accommodate the suffering of a few.

What would be a Libertarian solution to this problem? Let's think about how that would look on a going-forward basis, as it would be fruitless to imagine how much better things "would be" if sanity was the rule and not the exception.

that's incorrect.

The #ACA or #Obamacare is FASCISM. It's a $4trillion per year wealth-transfer from the people to the insurance industry.

Communism is a system in which no one is superior or inferior and no one can profit from another.

At their inceptions, the #Liberty, #OccupyWallStreet and #TeaParty movements all had the same basic goal... What happened?

I wonder why...

I wonder why so many fail to see this? This law is the ushering in of Socialized Communism. Using this law the state will soon own us and all of our assets in one form or another.

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.

I think there are several

I think there are several ways to foil the looters and grabbers... Shift cash or other assets into currencies that cannot be easily stolen. I'm thinking Gold, silver, Bitcoin.

Darn it. 'Must face it. I'd be a disgustingly filthy rich bastard... if I were self-employed with these figures.

I'll only leave out my outrageous income (undisclosed), but here's what the KFF calculator comes up with, given everything else - and only pretending I'm not a (lucky) employee.

Thanks Michael.

Thanks Michael.

I'm sharing these bits and my own findings for my step-daughter's information (and her boyfriend).

She already knew she/they won't be able to afford rent anywhere before a good while.

She already knew she gonna be stuck for a while with the mom and the tedious I am - although BOTH of them are working already.

But the #1 principle here is ZERO DEBT. Absolute ZERO.

And now - ha! - that's going to give them and others of my american relatives some more clues - "KLUES!" - about where I come from and why I insisted so much they research better on what has p*ssed me off for two(+) freaking decades - now imported to AMERIKA.

"O...ba...ma! O...ba...ma! O...ba...ma! O...ba...ma! O...ba...ma!" Remember, guys?

Such a shame for this country who could have remained so much greater if she wanted to :(

Medical Tourism

Well, stay healthy, or if you have to have some kind of major medical work done, get a trip out of it. Top medical destinations: Brazil, Costa Rica, Hungary, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey.

Although, this is all such a crock of sh-i-t that you can't get "affordable care" in the US.

"It’s not pessimistic, brother, because this is the blues. We are blues people. The blues aren’t pessimistic. We’re prisoners of hope but we tell the truth and the truth is dark. That’s different."

damn skippy

My insurance more than doubled my insurance rate. Which was only catastrophic anyways. Now with worse coverage!

the very group that promoted Obomba the most, is now the group getting screwed the most.

Obomba, the demoncats, and the usual suspects all lied about everything. If ObombaCare isn't repealed, millions of people will be financially ruined.

Alternatives to Obamacare.

The ACA points out just how far from reality health care today has wandered. That one is forced to either pay for a totally out of reach health insurance that does not insure (guarantee) anything, or be taxed for not doing so, is ludicrous. The USA is not, for example, Germany, where every working person and their employer pays equal amounts into a nationally mandated health bank. That works there, but our traditions are not a result of post war dictates, which created that system. So there money is available, but the use of it is still following the weird concepts of health as they now exist. It is beyond regrettable that the concept of self reliance and responsibility for one's own health has disappeared with the advent of schooled medicine teaching the doctrine of only alleviating symptoms with manufactured chemical products. No longer is a doctor's primary concern the road to a healthy patient. Today a doctor is taught to reduce suffering, and treat the symptom rather than seek means to remove the cause of disease. It's no wonder then, that the entire paradigm in which we view health care became flawed by this compulsion to drug use for symptom relief. My view is to reject this whole paradigm. Surround yourself with a happy and healthy outlook. Disregard the health care structure now in place. Develop your use of vitamins and minerals through openly available writings and videos on the internet, and on paper. Learn too the destructive outcomes of eating various foodstuffs, and choose what appeals to eat. Exercise. Live love laugh and be happy. Forget this intolerable drumbeat of self defeatism that permeates the halls of our government, and wake up to the reality that the only guarantee of health is the one you make with yourself!

As I mentioned in another thread

(This one), my sister-in-law in Taiwan has cancer. Samantha flew back to be with her last week, right after her diagnosis.

Taiwan has socialized medicine.

Sam told me an absolute horror story about trying to get a bed for her sister. The emergency room was pandemonium. People lined up on cots in the hallways. Crowded.

Somehow, by the grace of God, and I think because Samantha was bawling her eyes out, someone took pity on her. She looks like a little girl when she cries. People want to help her.

But the point is, under socialized medicine, decisions get politicized. How do you allocate beds? Answer: The same advice that Haymitch gave Peeta in the Hunger Games: You have to get people to like you. Give the bed to the girl who's sister is bawling her eyes out. (That's not why she was doing it - that's just how she is).

Here's my advice under Obamacare:

1) Find a powerful doctor and make friends with him. You want a doctor who can pull strings on your behalf.
2) Don't get sick. Staying healthy is all a matter of diet and lifestyle.

To be mean is never excusable, but there is some merit in knowing that one is; the most irreparable of vices is to do evil out of stupidity. - C.B.

diet, lifestyle, and not

diet, lifestyle, and not doing stupid things.

Not doing stupid things is key

The problem is, sometimes things are only revealed as 'stupid' after the fact. :(

And those who don't do stupid

And those who don't do stupid things are still subjected to the stupidity of others. I'm talking about "accidents".

What you get for voting for an idiot

These people voted for him en masse, let them suffer the consequences, just wish we didn't all have to.
