Dr. Ben Carson: Obamacare "Worst Thing" Since Slavery

Dr. Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon-turned-conservative-activist, said Obamacare is the "worst thing" to happen to America since slavery, because "it is making all of us subservient to the government."

DR. Ben Carson

Doesn't matter what you think of him, he has the right message for Americans trying to figure out this new type of slavery.

Here he is at the National Prayer Breakfast with Obama present: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFb6NU1giRA

I haven't read many comments so idk what was said before me, but "worst thing since slavery"?? Come on now....

Obviously this is just political theatrics. If you want to compare something to slavery how about the 1913 Revenue Act where people were forced to pay into the government and which is still now accepted by most if not all republicans and democrats. Or how about that we are born into this US government/tax system without our consent because a little paper that some dudes, I've never met, wrote a long time ago, which is still accepted by any and all parties including the conservatives on this site?

I'd think there is a lot more that could be compared to slavery than a somewhat small, but already failed socialistic healthcare plan.

Lighten up, Francis...

I am amazed at the negative

comments about this man. There is such a contingency of people on DP that are so fringe it disturbs me. I have heard nothing from this man on domestic policy that would make me think he is not a true conservative that should be welcomed within the liberty movement.

Some people on here need to be hit by a clue by four. You do not have to agree with someone at every level to see them as an exceptional human being.

foreign policy is why i

foreign policy is why i didn't like him months ago has he flip flopped like a romney?

After 9 years in the gop tell me why i should trust these people?

you wanna know why folks do not trust this guy or any gop repub;ican trying to talk the talk? because they never follow the talk or walk their talk. that is why.

may he will be different, but i will never bet on it. It is the gop. They should NEVER BE TRUSTED!! always question and always hold their feet to the fire.

after all the lying, cheating and stealing by establishment and sheep republicans. you tell me why i should put an ounce of trust in this man.

Obamacare is like putting

Obamacare is like putting gasoline on a fire. It's the hospital bill price tag that's having massive hyperinflation. Under Obamacare, the hospital bill price tag is going to the stratosphere.

Obamacare is putting gasoline on the hospital bill hyperinflation bonfire. It's the price tag stupid.

Let's not forget it is also

a monster black hole which will suck all extra money out of the economy. Higher medical bills, high insurance premiums, and most will have a high deductible. This next year is going to be a very rough year for most Americans.

Some won't be able to buy food, but at least they will have health care.

What the govt. wants to provide

What the govt. wants to provide is certainly not HEALTHcare. They want to provide SICKcare. The medical community has no intention of helping people become well. They intend to make them sick and keep them sick. That is where the money is. Step out of the box, put your money on natural wellness. Refuse to be the ones promoting this twisted version of "healthcare."
just one of many sources for wellness.

Obamacare loves GMO's!

There is a revolving door between what we eat and health care. The GMO food makes us all sick and we must see the doctor for all types of illnesses, like diabetes, Autism, cancer, and many more. Just this morning I heard on the radio that mental illness is exploding and no one knows why. I would suggest they know why and are afraid to expose GMO foods.

So we need to spend our money buying cheap GMO foods, then getting sick needing doctor care, and then dying before we can draw the first dollar of Social Security.

GMO's work good for the elites and population control!

He has benefited from alternative medicine.

That alone is an interesting fact. He has promoted Ambrotose by Manatech. Very contrary to medicine as usual.

Ben Carson

This is who we need in the White House...not another bought for politician. Listen carefully to what he is saying. He is actually intelligent, unlike our present "representatives".

Ben Carson on the power of the mind

Some folks are trying to read in all kinds of unfounded notions about Dr. Ben; trying to find reasons to fret over him because some media sources, so far, seem to like him. I found this clip while surfing the Tube that I thought might help give these folks a better view.

Entire Speech

Anyone have a link to the entire speech? I'd like to hear all of what he has to say

Thanks DP'ers!

Is he a union guy?

I hear him repeating talking points.

One of the major problems in US healthcare is the govt mandated Union (AMA). So when one of the union spokespeople comes out repeating anti-obamacare talking point, I'm suspicious.

We only have ourselves to blame for obamacare. Republicans talking about solving costs through the free market {vomit}. Please.

The free market would be to eliminate govt laws requiring AMA certified doctors, eliminated employer coerced healthcare, eliminate forced free medical care at emergency rooms and eliminate govt judges from reversing legal court cases and paying plaintiffs 100x their personal damages.

Let's see what he says about govt supported unions and then I might consider him more than just an opportunist.

I guess he missed the fact

I guess he missed the fact that we have adopted all ten tenets of the communist manifesto long ago. We have been socialist long before the affordable care act came into existence.

There is no truer quotation than, "No one is more enslaved than those who believe themselves to be free"

Establishment Hack

It is so obvious this guy is an establishment hack. Yes, he says some good things, but he will be a neo-con whor like all the others. It will be fun to watch, especially the republican hopeful, who will now have there "black guy" they can trot out and about in front of the Al Sharpton types, and release some white guilt. The "gushing" and extra ordinary groveling by the Shawn Hannity types whenever this guy talks should be enough of a clue. I question the discernment of some people, they should know better.

I question your knowledge of Dr. Carson.

"Ben Carson was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 18, 1951. His mother, though undereducated herself, pushed her sons to read and to believe in themselves. Carson went from being a poor student to receiving honors and he eventually attended medical school. As a doctor, he became the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital at age 33, and became famous for his ground-breaking work separating conjoined twins." [...]

"Because of his unflagging dedication to children and his many medical breakthroughs, Carson has received more than 50 honorary doctorate degrees and is a member of the Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Horatio Alger Society of Distinguished Americans and sits on the boards of numerous business and education boards.

In 2001, CNN and Time magazine named Ben Carson as one of the nation's 20 foremost physicians and scientists. In that same year, the Library of Congress selected him as one of 89 "Living Legends." In 2006, he received the Spingarn Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the NAACP. In February 2008, President Bush awarded Carson the Ford's Theater Lincoln Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the U.S. highest civilian honors. "

Yeah, clearly a gullible hack...riiiiight. Perhaps people gush over him because he's an exceptionally accomplished, brilliant humanitarian who has helped save countless lives despite having been raised by a single mother in a slum in Detroit.

I question the discernment of some people, they should know better.

No doubt he is a media personality

But then Obama holds advanced and honorary degrees and a Nobel Prize and is a "humanitarian" as well.

I don't care where he came from, I care where he is going.

But don't let me interrupt your hero worship.

Equating Ben Carson with Obama

is like comparing Nesslerode pie with Hog feed. One is a unique delicious tasty treat while the other is fodder for pigs.

Right, he is a conservative

Hmmm - you will have to show me where I compared them.

My statement was to say that bestowed titles and calling someone a "humanitarian" does not make someone credible or worthy of trust.

The fact that Obama has similar accolades is my proof to that error.

Try some syllogisms on these points.

Ben is famous
Ben has titles
Ben has been called a "humanitarian".

Obama is famous
Obama has titles
Obama has been called a "humanitarian"

Obama is a bad man.

What can we conclude about Ben?

Actions speak louder than words

And logical fallacies like yours can't change the fact that Dr. Carson has a list of accomplishments a mile long, and is one of the most respected neurosurgeons on the planet. I don't need Dr. Carson to tell me that Obamacare is the worst thing since slavery (I already know that) but as someone who has worked inside the medical field in the U.S. and other countries, his opinion of what Obamacare will do to healthcare in the U.S. carries even MORE weight.

Why in the world are you and the other dude whose screen name ends in "black" so eager to tear him down and conflate him with a hack like Obama?

Hannity gushing is your clue

We've seen enough of these guys come and go. The ones who are right, but not Establishment enough get ignored or get minimized if they can't be ignored, not gushed over.

Much respect to him for the people he's helped medically, but when he's doing politics, he's not doing medicine.

I have a rule when vetting an up and comer. I don't give them kudos for their criticism of someone on the opposite end of the political spectrum. If I did that, Rush Limbaugh would be my guru. The main kudos goes to whether they endorse someone useful when the chips are on the table. He promotes Rand now, he gets the kudos from me for it if he does it when it matters more, when the neocons are jerking people around by the nose during the primaries (and if Rand is still sort of not awful by then).

Unless he's just that brilliant that he's playing the Fox News guys...

Defend Liberty!

Let me ask you

Do you apply that same logic to Rand Paul? Plenty of mouthpieces have been gushing over him as of late, after all (though yes he is occasionally marginalized as well).

Also, he very well may be marginalized by the (D) side of the establishment for his comparison to slavery. Whether that's 'part of the D/R play' or not remains to be seen, though.

Just saying, *maybe* he's being genuine on this issue, especially given the fact that many doctors aren't on board with the ACA.

A signature used to be here!

i apply what rand paul says,

i apply what rand paul says, he has already lost me pandering to the pro drug war right. I do not trust rand paul either but who cares right i was only a republican delegate for ron paul for thelast 8 years solid. who cares. let rand dig his own hole. I do not trust rand after his selling out video on obamacare and his ass backward position on the faileddrug war. It is individual rights over state/fed not reverse.

sadly rand lost the very support that was there in me being a delegate. I guess he needs to call romney and reverse his right wing pandering on the failed drug war again . Then what will i believe from him then. Rand is trying to talk out both sides of his A$$ and i am not buying the BS from carson or rand. Hopefully they prove me wrong but i will not bet a dime on it.

After 9 years in the gop why should i trust these folks trying to talk the talk.

Hopefully Carson and Rand prove me wrong by action more then words but so far it is all only words and i do not trust either.

Ron Paul 2016

I'm with you, Bamobo

I think Dr. Carson's comparison of the ACA to slavery was carefully thought through and well delivered, but that won't stop racist Dems from de-blacking him and then start accusing him of racism for tying them together. They don't really have any other defense or offense in their play-book to use against him.

Whether he's as sincere as we'd like him to be, or not, I believe we can, and ought to cite and support his record and his words, until he fails to be true to our mutual Liberty. Ron Paul supported Ronald Reagan for prez. nomination long before others thought well of him, but whenever Reagan overstepped his constitutional bounds as POTUS, Dr. Paul didn't hold back from calling him on it. I wonder how far Reagan might have been constrained from his excesses, if the internet we have now was public then?

Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have the exact measure of the injustice and wrong which will be imposed on them. - Frederick Douglass

Rand Paul is a mixed bag

As you've said, there's a mix of gushing and marginalizing. Rand Paul forced himself onto the stage against the will of the Establishment. Dr. Ben Carson has been escorted onto the stage.

Also Rand Paul is earning himself the approval of the Established Republicans as he shows he's willing to dabble in neoconning and that he's not Ron Paul. And, given, some of the approval of him is due to capitulation to the fact he's there and popular and they will have to deal with it or not be on the popular side. But when there's an election on the line where real change is on the table, we'll see the usual players get behind the Establishment.

I'm sure Dr. Ben Carson is genuine on the ACA issue. He has nothing to lose by that. If he were in charge, would he work to sever the cash cows for the military-industrial establishment and the many fine examples of corporatism the federal government holds up? Such things would be telling if he's something special or something we've heard already.

Health care ...what is it like?

China is about where the USA was in the 70s I think (beforeHMOs)

They have health insurance but nobody uses it. I live in China and the first time I came 2 years ago I went to the hospital for a digestive tract problem, saw both Chinese and Western doctors, got herbs and medications and tests, and a follow-up, all for about $300 total. Chinese medicine doctors make about 20RMB per treatment, which is about 3 dollars. Competition keeps prices low over here, not promises from politicians.
