Kelly's Heroes

good movie

"Make a deal. Find out if he is a Republican!"

When confronted by a Panzer tank guarding the gold filled bank, no one can figure out how to get past it. But the black-marketeer supply sergeant played by Don Rickles suggests checking the old greed level. Ask the Germans in the tank if they want to die for a lost cause or go home without the tank but with bars of gold.

Then the barter for the tanks and uniforms continues. Classic.

Bored? Time on your hands? Nothing to do?

Why don't you turn off the "box" and become actively engaged in the fight for liberty instead of being a spectator?

How about not being a snotty, smarty-pants?

This thread was started a 2:45 in the morning last night, for starters...

Are you not on the computer as you type that?

Seriously, what is it with people and these comments? As if you cannot actively promote liberty, and watch a good movie once in a while.

This thread is relevant, and spreads the message of liberty, by making it fun, and accessible to people who may not be as interested in politics.
I am not one of those who is not interested in politics, and since you've been on the DP for a while and have seen my posts and comments, you should know that.

And what exactly are you doing right now besides criticizing others who ARE spreading the message of liberty?

Are you a POT or a PET - Person Embracing Tyranny?

It was only a question, not a criticism.

20 down votes for asking if someone would actively promote liberty on a liberty promoting website. Duh!!!!

Sorry about the pile on...

I didn't mean for it to blow up like that on you...

If you edit your comments to say just . then I'll do the same...

All good lawmanjed.

I do have respect for many of your posts.
Being a Kiwi, I tend to be a bit blunt at times, without meaning to offend or criticize. Even though we both speak English, we do tend to have a different language, or different delivery style.
My most humble apologies.

Its A Wonderful Life

Gettysburg (1993) directed by the great Ronald F Maxwell (Gods And Generals is the prequel to it)

Napoleon (1995) one of my favorite movies, set in Australia. it follows a young Golden Retriever Puppy (a real one, not a cartoon) on his journey to become a 'Wild Dog' he learns how to take care of himself.

Love Gettysburg...

Watched it on viooz this summer.

This relatively accurate depiction of the Battle of Gettysburg, particularly about Robert E. Lee, demonstrates to me how Lee's poor decisions at this crucial point in the war, essentially lost the Confederacy the war. The decisions were so horrendously, disastrously errant, that I really wonder whether there was not more to the story. A conspiracy?

Interesting point, I have heard it said before.

But you have to keep in mind other factors, Longstreet was supposed to attack hours before he did... it has been argued about for years.

I think pitched battles and half mile charges were basically suicide by that time, the union made the exact same mistake at Fredericksburg 7 months earlier. that is what Gods and Generals is about, also directed by Maxwell.

Listen to this exchange between Lee & Longstreet

maybe this part should be heard first, yes in fact it should...

Are you a POT or a PET - Person Embracing Tyranny?

It is certainly debatable...

I'm pretty sure Longstreet couldn't attack earlier, he didn't even want to attack, period. Pretty sure he didn't have the men or the covering fire.

Let alone Pickett's Charge, I cannot see why Lee was so insistent on invading the north, and then wasting his men on a strategically worthless piece of real estate, known as Gettysburg. Lee's argument for fighting at Gettysburg was that if they "retreated" (Longstreet correctly said it was NOT retreat, but strategic withdrawal) it would be bad for morale. Well how bad for morale was losing half his army, for basically nothing?

They should've left the battlefield and headed for Washington. Or better yet, stay in the South and fight a long term guerilla war. Could've prevented Sherman from burning Atlanta. North would've never been able to pry the South away from their independence.

And I'm not even going to get into the details of the conspiracy theories about banksters and secret societies, and why/how the war was prosecuted.

There were many amateurish mistakes made by Lee and some of his subordinate generals over those couple days, and they could have had not only little round top, which would have provided them high ground to fire artillery from to support Pickett's Charge, but they possibly could've even taken the ground itself, the day before. Nonetheless, the whole operation was doomed to fail when Lee uselessly decided to invade the North. That is my humble opinion.

I don't necessarily side with either North or South, but I certainly have sympathies for causes on both sides of the fight.
