Keep Calling ABC NEWS!!! It's working...

Hi Folks -

As many of you know, ABC news is planning to put radio correspondents with the "Top 6" campaigns on super tuesday. As you may have guessed, Dr. Paul is not one of them (nor is John Edwards). Here is a link to ABC's planned coverage of super tuesday.

http://abcnewsradio.com/08election/advisories/supertuesday.html

As you can see, they have a correspondent with Mayor Giuliani, but not Ron Paul. Here are some statistics I've gathered from CNN.com to compare Giuliani and Paul:

- In primaries/caucuses: Dr. Paul has beaten Giuliani 4 out of 5 times. He beat him in Iowa, Michigan, Nevada and South Carolina.

- Delegates: Ron Paul has won 6 delegates, while Rudy has won only 2.

- Total Votes: Dr. Paul has received a total of 88,791 votes while Mr. Giuliani has received only 54,595 votes in primaries to date.

- Money: Dr. Paul raised more money than ANY CANDIDATE in the last quarter. Mr. Giuliani is out of money. He relegated his campaign only to Florida, and his staff was going UNPAID.

When I called, I said I had a question about their super tuesday coverage. The guy interrupted me and asked if it was about Ron Paul and Rudy Giuliani. I told him it was kind of about that, but more about why they are not covering all 8 remaining candidates. Then I proceeded to launch into the statistics and asked by what logic they could possibly consider Giuliani to be above Paul. The guy was actually very nice and he said they have gotten lots of calls. He said their coverage was decided long ago, and at that time it looked like this was their best estimate (which I don't really buy because the last time Rudy was even close to RP was when Edwards was still very much in the race). However, he said their execs are meeting about it and trying to make a decision about their coverage.

Please keep calling ABC! The more calls the better. Also remember to be polite (It was hard for me because the press thing is egregious, but I managed).

Good luck! You're making a difference.

Be sure to remind them of what happened to Faux! Here's what I wrote:

Zack Wolf's coverage of the Ron Paul campaign is pathetic. In his sophmoric attempt at reporting, he says in his video "...so while he won't be president, he already considers himself a winner." What is this all about? This is completely biased. Why are you discounting Ron Paul? He's placed 2nd in two primaries already. The Republican race is wide open. Ron Paul's grassroots movement should be a huge story! Do you want your stock to tank as that of Fox News?

Fox

We didn't tank Fox news stock....I wouldn't mention that

I saw it too!

You're not the only one who saw it. I saw it too.

I didn't get a screen shot, sorry. I do remember that Ron Paul and Edwards were added. The reporter for Edwards was a black woman (I think). I can't remember anything about the reporter they assigned to Ron Paul.

Like I said earlier, I think the complaints got some manager to rethink it and add coverage for Dr. Paul and Edwards. Then, I think someone higher up in the food chain saw it and reversed the decision after chastising the manager for not remembering the Ron Paul blackout.

Either that or it was a

Either that or it was a temporary ruse to get us off their tails!

wow

that's wrong. Will all of this backlash?

delete my account!!!

Keep this up -- WHY is this happening?

BUMPED -- did anyone else see this happening?

Keep this up -- WHY is this happening?

BUMPED -- did anyone else see this happening?

What?

Bumping this back up -- did anyone get a screen shot of the ABC lineup when they did have Ron Paul and Edwards on there?

What the hey?

After I had sent a letter to ABC (Peter Salinger), I checked the ABC site and, with my own eyes I saw that Ron Paul had been added to the lineup for the 5th -- assigned a reporter "Wolf" something. Now it is gone. What is going on here?

ABC Has Added Paul and Edwards

We should be gracious and thank them.

ABC /' Ron Paul / February 5

The head of the news department at ABC is Peter Salinger (peter.salinger@abc.com) -- the following is a note I sent him earlier. And I just now sent him a thank you note for including Dr. Paul. We certainly ARE a powerful force to be reckoned with, aren't we?

Mr. Peter Salinger:

In the interest of being able to hear fair and UNBIASED information about the viable candidates running for President of the United States in 2008, I would like to inquire as to just why you are excluding Ron Paul from coverage that day. Rudy Giuliani is included in your coverage and it is complete public knowledge that Ron Paul has beaten him soundly on all points. Please don't send me a ridicules form letter in answer to this -- someone at ABC should surely have enough guts to take a stand and say exactly WHY this is happening.

I am shocked and angry and very saddened, that you are treating such a legitimate candidate as Dr. Paul with such blatant disregard and disrespect -- what are you afraid of? That he just might get himself elected? I grew up in Concord, Massachusetts, two miles from the Concord Bridge. Stop and think about it, Mr. Salinger -- a rag tag army of farmers, woodworkers, clerks, tradesmen, young and old -- COMMON PEOPLE, not trained soldiers by any stretch of the imagination -- fought and DEFEATED the well trained, handsomely uniformed British Redcoats. They won! What makes you think that another revolution is not possible? What makes you think it is not already happening? What makes you think that this mixed lot of folks fervent about Ron Paul are not just as committed to winning our freedom? (You surely know who we are -- we're the grass roots bunch you call "loonies", the ones who raise phenomenal sums of money at the drop of a hat or the touch of a computer key, we're the ones who have such a fervent belief in our candidate.) I would think ABC would relish the opportunity to be "on top" of something, instead of following the herd of media in general.

I truly don't think you are seriously looking at the sheer number of Americans who are totally fired up about Dr. Paul and the hope he has given us to get our country out of the mess it is in at this time. Here's a news flash for YOU! Remember that revolution I mentioned above? Well, it IS already in progress -- Americans are sick and tired of being manipulated, lied to, and beat up -- the US originally became a great and respected country because of our adherence to our Constitution. We are all getting sick of the rights given to us by our founding father's being taken away from us! Collectively, WE are not going to go away, WE are not going to shut up, WE are not going to be afraid, and WE are not going to lie down any longer for the corrupt practices being shoved down our throats. WE are the PEOPLE -- and we are fed up with what is happening to our country every single day.

I am respectfully requesting that you re-consider your decision to exclude Dr. Paul from coverage. Please consider the following, gathered from CNN.com, to aid in your comparison of Mr. Giuliani and Dr. Paul:

- In primaries/caucuses: Dr. Paul has beaten Giuliani 4 out of 5 times. He beat him in Iowa, Michigan, Nevada and South Carolina. Giuliani has only won New Hampshire, while being beaten very badly in every other primary/caucus.
- Delegates: Ron Paul has won three times as many delegates as Giuliani.

- Total Votes: Dr. Paul has received a total of 88,791 votes; Giuliani has received only 54,595 votes to date.

- Money: Dr. Paul raised more money than ANY OTHER CANDIDATE in the last quarter. Mr. Giuliani is out of money, asking his campaign people to work for free. How can he even legitimately conduct a campaign with no money behind him?

Your decision to exclude Dr. Paul from coverage totally smacks of media bias and only goes to further prove the point that, for some reason, big media seems to believe it gets to pick who we get to vote for. Is what you are doing even legal? Somehow, I think you are violating FCC regulations, but I do know for sure that this is just wrong! I am 62 years old, and have been an avid supporter of ABC and Disney all my life, but I fully intend not to watch ABC or Disney products any longer and will notify any and all of your advertisers that I absolutely will not patronize their companies as long as this travesty is allowed to continue.

I tried to call ABC, but the operator said "Oh, you must be another one of those Ron Paul fans -- we're really getting bombarded today", as he sent me to a voice mail box. Hopefully, as I write this, you are already re-considering your decisions about coverage on February 5th.

Ron Paul is a fascinating political figure who clearly has galvanized many voters. We have covered him and will continue to cover him as long as he is a candidate.

Thanks for your interest.

Exact same response I got too, but I responded wit this...

Thank you for responding to my concern regarding equal coverage for Ron Paul. While I appreciate your supporting a radio reporter covering his campaign, that is a drop in the bucket compared to the prime time TV coverage for the others, including Rudy, whom Ron Paul has beaten, four out of five times in primaries. Thousands of Americans support and donate to his campaign and we expect his candidacy, as well as ANY others still in the race to be given equal coverage. Who are you to decide the race before the candidates drop out. Ron Paul will be in the race lot longer than Huckabee, as he is out of money, and McCain will require additional support from lobbyists and those corporations who profit from war.

I will continue to vote with my dollars to sources who treat all candidates the same. It is OUR choice for the final choice, not yours.

When I hear or see national, prime time news coverage and interviews with Ron Paul, then an only then will I tune back to your network.

Nice but...

I don't care how many times they keep saying Ron Paul wont win the Presidency. I will not believe it. Ron Paul will win the Presidency! I believe it, I've envisioned it. It will be so sweet seeing all of those videos of reporters saying he can't win, when he does win.
Espcially Stephanopolas (sp) telling Ron Paul he can't win. I bet Ron Paul would do an interview with him and Ron is such a gracious guy he wouldn't even hold it against him.

And, my response...

Yes, we in the grassroots have all seen this short, feeble, and basically defamatory report by the early-20's intern reporter.

No offense to the kid, as he seems very sharp and may have a great future. I'd be very proud if he were my son as a matter of fact. However....this campaign is on the verge of being one of the final three (or maybe two) remaining in the Republican presidential nomination race, so if ABC News really wishes to be the "cutting edge" network I believe it would be wise for you to assign a very prominent TOP-tier reporter to Dr. Paul immediately.

Thank you for your "form letter" response....

I Phoned Earlier Today, about noon

and spoke with a very nice gentleman. I told him our age (forties) and viewing/listning history (decades). I asked that he convey a message to management that we wished them to reconsider their coverage, or lack thereof, of Dr. Paul. I told him we felt the mass media in general was missing the boat this election season. Dr. Paul is ahead of Rudy Giuliani but that isn't the whole story!

I conveyed that Dr Paul's message is about Liberty and Constitution. Freedom is not only popular with our Nation's youth, it's popular with nearly every American. These core values are as old as the country, they inspire folks worldwide and are as American as baseball and apple pie. I told him I thought it would be a grave error in judgement to further marginalize baseball and apple pie. I am so proud of our youth not just for grabbing the message but for the gassroots effort being put forth to embrace and defend this message. As we progress into the future of America I predict it will resonate and rekindle the spirit in millions more Americans and dominate the political scene.

He told me that executive managemnet had called an emergency meeting to discuss the issue. :)

Keep it up folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wouldn't it be great if the

Wouldn't it be great if the result of this emergency meeting was that they decided to add Ron Paul and remove Rudy Giuliani? :)

Well, call him and ask what

Well, call him and ask what happened at this "emergency meeting". Nothing? Tell him you hope all the complaints go into heir FCC public file.
