Perhaps Rand knew what he was doing in not being the front man on the shutdown...

http://www.politico.com/story/2013/10/rand-paul-shows-softer...

Rand Paul is no wacko bird. Just ask Lindsey Graham.
“Rand Paul’s been incredibly responsible,” Graham (R-S.C.), who has clashed with Paul in the past, said just before the Senate voted to end the government shutdown. “I’ve seen a side of Rand I haven’t seen before. That’s one of the pluses of this whole deal. He’s been great.”

According to many moderate GOP observers, the Kentucky Republican and likely 2016 contender has deftly maneuvered the past several weeks of shutdown politics, toeing the conservative line without alienating the rest of the party — especially compared to his frequent sidekick, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

A key challenge for Paul if he runs would be to make himself acceptable to — if not win over — traditional Republicans. His low-key approach to the shutdown and debt limit drama could help that cause.

Solid conclusion about Rand

“I think you could probably infer that a guy like Rand Paul, who saw his father’s various failed presidential efforts, [recognizes] that it’s going to require more than soaring rhetoric,” Wilson said. He added, “Folks like [Paul] have a recognition that just being true to your conservative principles is not the same thing as being true to conservative principles with a strategic plan, approach and a path to victory.”

"It’s not pessimistic, brother, because this is the blues. We are blues people. The blues aren’t pessimistic. We’re prisoners of hope but we tell the truth and the truth is dark. That’s different." ~CW

Poker

He's playing poker. He raises the bet when he needs to and checks the bet at the right times. This time he checked the bet to Cruz.

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.

Man On The Margin

Ran Paul may be the only Republican in Congress capable of brokering a peace between the establishment GOP and the Tea Party.

the abortion comments...

drive me nuts.

Anyone ever held a baby before? Could you imagine bringing over 3000 into the world?

Then... could you imagine Ron Paul being an abortionist? Hell. Fuch NO. Ron Paul changed my stance on abortion because of the way he told his story. Ron absolutely protects life. He even changed his stance on execution because an innocent person could die.

Rand is our chance to overcome two political parties and the MSM.

Rand will lead the country to peace and prosperity.

2014 is our pregame.. 2016 we win the White House.

Abortion is bad enough

but:

"To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical." ~~Thomas Jefferson

when pro-life folks are being by stealth compelled to provide funds for abortions, then its time for Peaceful Civil Disobedience or the exploitation of creative loopholes.

"Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the office of a thoroughly nasty business concern." ~~C.S. Lewis

Rand definately

knows how to choose his battles. So far, he is playing the game very well.

Very interesting comments

Very interesting comments about Rand and Cruz.

What about Jesse Ventura on all this. He has thrown his hat into the ring.

Did anyone ask him what he would do if he were president?

Rand learned one thing from his Dad Very well

and that is that he unifies people. He spends most of his time attempting to build bridges between the parties and the ideologies...Something his Dad believed was the best strategy. Obamacare is a divisive issue and Rand did the right thing by keeping his distance. I'm no fan of Obamacare, but there are MUCH bigger issues that we (Libs, Cons, Inds and Most Americans) can unite around. That those are the issues that we should be fighting.

Ted Cruz is more popular than ever

The Tea-Party sans Rand is gunning for his boy Mitch.

Did you catch Ted Cruz’s numbers in that Pew poll that came out this week? You may not have, because there were a few other things going on. So take a guess as to his favorable ratings among Tea Party people. I can tell you that 18 percent expressed no opinion, so the numbers add up to 82. So, 65-17, 68-14? Could he possibly have topped 70?

He sure could have. It was 74-8. Eight! It used to be 47-10 in a prior poll. In other words, a lot of people who weren’t able to form an opinion of him now can, and it’s swooning. Among non-Tea Party Republicans, as you’d imagine, a rather different story: It’s 56-44 (everyone has an opinion!). That’s favorable, but it ain’t 74-8. And in these numbers, among dozens of other auguries, we see the Armageddon that’s coming in the GOP between now and 2016. What on earth are the establishment Republicans going to do about this man?

No doubt Rand was a smart

No doubt Rand was a smart politician. Cruz got blamed for the shutdown but rand still can say he did not vote to raise the debt limit or for obamacare. Rand was also on every tv show he could get on trying to look like the reasonable one and shift the blame to the democrats.

The "Pied Piper" of the Tea Party

Cruz is securing and growing a loyal base for Rand, so he can focus on flipping Dems and ensuring skeptical libertarians that he's true to the cause.

Heidi Cruz (Ted's Wife)

= Federal Reserve Banking Cartel. Would you rather have Rand getting advise from Ron in the White House or Ted Taking advise from his wife Heidi & the rest of the central bankers in the White House ??

Ron Swanson

Any compliment from the rat Graham is nothing to brag about.

Lookout - when you get kudos from the likes of Graham.

It's no badge of honor - on the contrary it's a thing of shame.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."

Rand neutralizing opposition

Rand neutralizing opposition seems like a good strategy to me. But perhaps it's Graham pandering to Liberty voters for his reelection.

deeper in the article

peter king too has kind words for rand. makes me want to take a shower just reading that these slithering gargoyles are patting rand on the back with their withering claws.

regardless of one's views on Rand, here is a clear insight into

the Ruling Class sycophantic whoredom's view of Rand, that was pretty telling and indicative of how they're gonna attack him, come 2016 election cycle; from the above Politico blurb:

“Given that [Paul] isn’t owning any of the pain of the shutdown, yeah, I think it’s something that is going to benefit him,” Killion said.

[...]

“The real difference [in this battle] isn’t between [Republicans in name only] and the establishment,” said GOP strategist Rick Wilson. “It’s between people who get how politics really works and people who want politics to work the way they want it to work.”

Last week at the Values Voter Summit, a gathering of the country’s most conservative grassroots activists, Lee and Cruz railed against the health care law and urged Republicans to stand strong as the government shutdown continued. Paul spent his stage time talking foreign policy.

This doesn't make me like Rand,

and it makes me suspicious if he's another 'liberty' manchurian candidate to get us to vote, like Reagan was.

Ted Cruz has on the other hand gained massive credibility in my eyes and from everything I can see he has gained credibility in the liberty and tea party communities in general.

All I can see is that Cruz put country and people against party and government. He stood for right. If we reward anyone but him then we deserve what we get.

Ron Paul is a magnificent man. It would be easy to think his son is the same.

But I fear what Rand most learned from dad, is that not going along is not the the way to get along.

Rand is going along while talking like he's not going along. A symbolic but ultimately toothless filibuster is all well and good. Cruz on the other hand too a stand.

Cruz seeming globalist connections worry me too, but he stood for something. When have we seen this except in Ron Paul? And unlike Paul, Cruz had a lot of political capital to lose.

Check Rand's voting record.

Words in an interview or stump speech don't change anything except opinion. Unless I am missing something, Rand always votes liberty.

I have been quite happy with Ted Cruz' political theater. He also votes liberty. I keep seeing the comments about his birth, background and influences and just know that he can never be President. Too many people in his own Party couldn't vote for him if he appeared to be Jesus Christ incarnate, much less any anti-birther Dems. As ok as I am with him, I'd vote Libertarian if he was jammed down our throats by the cheating Republicans like Romney was. I would, however, probably vote for him if he appeared to beat Rand in a fair fight and Rand didn't flip to Libertarian. I'd simply rather the country implode at the hands of Ted Cruz than Hillary Clinton, if the election were today anyway.

My greatest hope is that Ted Cruz knows he can't be the Republican nominee, much less President, and that his political theater will help Rand get elected. I hope he runs, because like Santorum for Romney, Cruz votes can easily be flipped to Rand with his endorsement. It seems to me that if these guys are actually playing out a strategy, it's working like a charm.

When his wife, Heidi Nelson Cruz, served in George W. Bush’s

Treasury Department in 2003, Ted Cruz went to considerable lengths to disclose his positions to the government, and to divest himself of his Caribbean holdings. But there was one exception.

Cruz is a bought and paid for NeoCon.

I didn't say I trusted Cruz,

I didn't say I trusted Cruz, or any politician for that matter, but he did make a stand and put himself on the line. I have to respect that.

Amash

I wish we could have Justin Amash as a vice-president.

Debates with Justin, Ted and Rand would be incredible.

Engage in Secure Exchange

I see Rand as being incredibly intelligent

and clearly each speech and interview and vote is geared towards one thing - gaining the presidency.

It's all about strategy for him.

Ron Paul is My President

Yep You Got It!

No matter whose ass you gotta kiss or regardless who you throw under the bus. It's all about Rand's future. Fuck the country and liberty too!

Rand Paul.... Bitch for Mitch

Imagine that, Rand publishes in Foreign Affairs, the CFR journal

and Lyndsey Graham, neo-con extraordinaire has something nice to say about his "former" nemesis.

Sure, this is just Rand being genius.

Sure it is.

This can't POSSIBLY mean really that Rand has been turned. No not possible.

that cracked me up

i'm convinced that from here on out rand can say or do anything he wants and his supporters will all nod together in awe "genius, man, pure genius"
