An Atheist's Prayer II

This is the last time
I throw myself to the ground
Kiss the floor
Prostrate myself
Beg to god

Not for myself
But to guide others
Who seem stray
Back to love

I get to the point
I want to cry
From the absurdity
And the horror
Of what I see coming

I beg Him to show me anything
The slightest hint
To stand up
To serve him
Not for myself
But for others

My tears and laughter mingle
I hear only crickets
I laugh again
I feel the cold wood floors on my chest
I beg for him to guide me

Nothing but crickets.
Its an awful revelation
No one is there

Am I not worthy?
I know I can lead millions of men
One way or the other
With my words alone

I offer myself to God
I beg him to take me
I pour out sincerity

I laugh at the absurdity
And the silence

I offer myself to the Devil
He too is silent
And speaks through crickets
How funny
Even Evil is sacrificed to absurdity
To nothing
To crickets.

I guess I am alone
And will have to deal with it
And the pathological human species

I used to dabble in poetry similar to this.

When I was younger I dabbled in poetry based on my lack of emotional fulfillment, gave it up when I hit my mid-20s and realized that I was a self-aggrandizing fool who confused his own incredulity with understanding the full scope of existence. I am wiser now for knowing my own foolishness and spending my time immersed in books to try and cure it. Suffice to say, I'm still working on that, but I take comfort in knowing that my energies are being better spent dealing with my own lack of wisdom rather than dwelling upon the seeming absence of it in others or in the universe at large.

“My attitude toward progress has passed from antagonism to boredom. I have long ceased to argue with people who prefer Thursday to Wednesday because it is Thursday.” - G.K. Chesterton

see, im the opposite. i

see, im the opposite. i started with the books, then realized my foolishness and ignorance, then went for the poetry.

Praise Lucifer...

..Bringer of Light, and Prometheus, Deliverer of Fire.

Praise Lex Luthor, protector of humanity from the Kryptonian invader.

Praise Doctor Octopus, and Professor Moriarty and Mark Duquesne and Stringer Bell and Master Cylinder and Snively Whiplash.

Praise all pretend villains who invite us to look into their metaphorical minds and understand perspectives other than our own.

Praise allegory and screed and parable and fable, that they may also help to guide us out of the Gardens of Ignorance.

And especial thanks to BILL3 who inspires this latest of rants.

Begging doesn't achieve....

"Be still and know that I am God"...Psalm 46:10
Should have listened to the crickets.
He provided a book - read it.

i do.. i do. but i am human,

i do.. i do. but i am human, all too human.

Nietzsche is too boring and German for my tastes, but suit yourself.

Silly boy

God doesn't give you what you want, He gives you what you need.

wow, when I wrote that

I was actually laughing (good-naturedly) at the obviousness of them. Long time ago I was on my way to a sacred site (not a church) and others had asked me to pray for them, gave me letters to burn at the site, and I asked someone if she would like me to say a prayer for her, too. She smiled very sweetly and said, "No. Pray for Him." I immediately understood what she was saying and had even advised others of the same - had she known me better she would have known, so I said nothing back. But what I had learned long before that incident was that everybody wants 'things', be they 'universal' peace, trinkets, blah yadda blah... but no one seems to want Him. I always wanted Him. I can't tell you who or what 'Him' is, only that all names and forms are Him. I can't boil 40 plus years of spiritual search down into one measely comment on the DP, but until you let go, you won't know. Go with your hands empty and they will be filled. Trust the Universe; it's always on time.
