The woman’s freedom to choose where, how and with whom to give birth, IS a libertarian issue. It’s about self-ownership.

Where I argue with a Straw Woman…

Straw Woman: “When I first found your page, I was so excited - another libertarian voice! Even better – a female libertarian voice! I thought, great, we need more of them! But then I read your posts – and became so disappointed. A huge number of your posts are about crazy women who reject science and modern medicine and give birth at home without doctors, or even without any qualified help at all. This is just crazy! I’m unliking your page”.

Dissenting Opinion: “Before you leave my page and never return, can I say a word? You see, I could, of course, talk about the standard libertarian bunch of issues: the insanity of the drug war, the murderous foreign policy of the U.S. government, the injustice of taxation or the police brutality. But you see, there already are lots and lots of FB pages, as well as magazines, websites, podcasts and youtube videos about drug war, foreign policy, taxation and police brutality. I’m very happy that these FB pages, magazine articles, websites, podcasts and youtube videos exist. I have great respect and admiration for people who are writing and speaking on these issues. I just think it will not be the best use of my time and energy to duplicate what these writers and speakers are already doing – and doing well.

The woman’s freedom to choose where, how and with whom to give birth IS a libertarian issue. It’s about self-ownership. It’s about personal autonomy. It’s about the right of a woman to control her body and her life. It’s about the woman’s right to make decisions for herself, according to her conscience, according to what she believes is best for her, without the government bureaucrats intervening ‘for her own good’.

From the libertarian point of view, it’s immaterial whether the choice to birth at home is unwise. Most libertarians believe that being a heavy user of crack cocaine is not a wise choice – yet, they support a person’s right to use crack if that’s what she chooses. Do the rights of a woman who, after lots of reading and researching decides that homebirth is the best option for her and her baby deserve at least as much support from the libertarians as the rights of a crack addict?

Yet, sadly, this issue has long been neglected by the libertarians. In fact, I do not know of a single libertarian who speaks or writes about this issue. (If I’m wrong and there is one, please let me know – I’ll be only too happy to be mistaken).

For a long time, I’ve been hoping that some libertarian voice will start speaking about the issue of freedom for birth. I’ll hope no longer. Instead, I’ll BE this voice. Peace to you”.

In the hospital they are more worried about getting it over with. They place arbitrary time tables on when the child "should be" born and do damaging procedures such as forcing labor, C sections, and even laying across a woman's belly to "help" her push.

The medical profession is about making money and they have turned a natural event into a $10k procedure that actually puts the baby at more risk which in turn gives them more opportunity to make more money. They are masters of what is called "Job Security". Hell they don't even have to guarantee their work.

All because of terrorist statistics where they highlight the very small minority who may have a troubled birth so that every woman feels that they should go to the hospital when many of those statistics are caused by the hospitals themselves.

And to top it off that same medical profession that is so worried about saving all those babies deliberately murders a million babies a year.

Here is an example of how they use numbers.

According to the CDC about 650 women die from pregnancy complications each year. BOY THAT'S SCAREY. But notice they use the number and not the percentage. Why? Because the percentage isn't scarey at all.

According to the CDC there were almost 4,000,000 births in 2010 So the percentage of women who died from child birth was about .0016% of the total pregnancies.

How many movies have you seen where some woman went into labor without a doctor present and died? See what I mean. The fear permeates our society.

I am a Libertarian

I'm actually starting Midwifery school in Jan. I had both my kids at home when it was considered illegal, I believed in my right to choose when and where I had my kids and it was perfect for me. Now I plan on helping other capable women achieve what the establishment would have us give up entirely, the right to our own bodies. The ability to make our own informed choices and decisions about what is best for our own families. I expect that more women will realize the system doesn't have our best interest in mind and take control over what is a natural bodily function. Especially now with Obama Care, my god will C-sec be mandatory now that insurance companies run the show? We already have a 33% rate here in CA. Women are carved up like animals. OMG don't get me started... I just wanted to let you know we are out here maybe not in the spotlight but working on making a difference in our communities just the same.

We have the right to....

LIFE, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

And that's what it is all about.

Part of the pursuit of happiness is having the right to make your own choices as long as you are not infringing on anyone else's rights to the same.
