I encourage you to bring all your interests here

We all came in from a wide variety of interests and backgrounds. All from someplace different, and we all converged at a moment in time.

It was an era, and now we're entering a new era. Pay attention. There is going to be tumult.

Let's just do one thing and stop criticizing each other. Let's just take a step back and share, without the need to fight about it. Everything does not have to be an argument.

We're draining our energy. The negativity just drives people away. It doesn't solve any problems.

Just remember - we're all united here by a moment in time. We're a cosmic family, brought together by a wide array of circumstances. All brought together for a reason. If that reason is to be found, it is to be found in yourself, and in expressing that self.

Don't just copy the media's negativity. That is such a bore. Get to connecting with other people. Find out what we're doing here together.

P.S. I have "market socialism" in the diagram because I ran into one of my old Ron Paul buddies at the grocery store. He'd grown a beard. And he called himself a "market socialist" and I said, that's great. I don't really care because it is nice to see you, and we really shared some good and interesting times. And now we're all shooting off into space, on our own different trajectories. Like graduating from high school or something.

But just remember, we're all still friends. We were all part of that era, and shared that moment in time.

Planting seeds of peace and liberty everywhere

I love this! Maybe we don't all get "all of it" or all of it in the same way... But surely we all take away enough of the message of peace love and liberty to plant seeds wherever we go...

Anyone have a good website to recommend?

Don't feed the pandas. Ever.

I rather enjoy critical discourse

It is how we all learn and progress in our thinking and positions.

I only dislike the criticisms when it devolves into name calling and insults. Or spamming the topic/using alts to manipulate voting etc.

Banning 6 year alts which suddenly become active might be a step in the right direction. Just a suggestion of course, it is your site to do with as you wish.

Nice post, Michael!

I agree about the negativity. Sometimes I'm apprehensive about commenting and especially posting because I know how brutal people can be. Respectful debate is awesome but negative, mean-spirited responses are not. I love it when I see discussions/debates move in positive ways (especially when there is strong disagreement)...I learn so much.

Looks like you may have stumbled on your next big venture...
Managing a real life consortium of alternative living/working that brings all the best technology, philosophy and talent together in a series of sub-ventures that support each other synergistically with unprecedented economy and results.

Particles of the living working together are already out there but maybe without the leading edge agriculture or high tech capability. And in most cases without the incredibly rich environment of a River Stone type of compound.

Okay by me... except for one little detail.

How in the world do we come up with $19.5 million when only 5 bedrooms are offered?

It would take a whole lot of us willing to put up a large amount of money to purchase and then get permits for building homes on the property. The expense alone would exclude me from the deal.

It would have been great, though.

Thanks Mike, you are a very wise man. I have a lot of respect for your integrity.

Absolutely

I will never forget the 2007 campaign. It was a turning point in my life. I didn't post then but read the site daily and learned a lot.

Our fight has only just begun. The Establishment is not going to get rid of us that easily. Taking over the Republican Party should be Objective No. 1, as Ron encouraged.

Feature request: show number of times user has been banned?

Hi Michael,

I recently started contributing to this site financially again. Thank you for your patience in my recovery. One of the reasons that I was so strongly affected by past behavior (apart from the brain injury that made me forgetful) was that I had learned some amazing facts from a certain user, who was banned, and that made me sad and negative towards the banning and those who allowed it.

Months later (recently), I learned from (((Atruepatriot))) a larger history of this user's behavior, including repeated bannings in the past. This took me a lot of effort to get through, and during this time my participation on this site was greatly reduced.

This leads to the feature request idea: on a user's page, add a few more metrics to show "number of times user has been banned completely", "from posting", and "from commenting".

That high-level detail may have been sufficient for me to stop campaigning for this user to return.

(Lower-level detail would be interesting as well, but I would think less necessary -- but to be able to see why (and when) a user had been banned might be useful, unless of course those posts/comments were too offensive and were removed.)

Thank you for this site, Michael. Godspeed and good luck with your sister-in-law. An energy healing note: hold hands in a circle and breathe deeply, into your belly then your chest. Or have many people put their hands on her body, and similarly breathe deeply. We have the capability to change the world with our minds. Deep breathing is a component of all energy healing modalities; above is from the book "Quantum Touch".

A quick JSJ (Jin Shin Jyutsu, see my signature) lesson: hold each finger of the opposite hand, like make a fist with the left hand, and put your right thumb inside it. Take five deep breaths. Switch hands, take five deep breaths. Then go back to the first hand, using the right index finger. Repeat until you have held all ten fingers, breathing five deep breaths each. This will take about five minutes, and will send energy to all the body's systems. Each finger is associated with different emotions, organs, etc. I don't remember them all but one I do recall is the middle finger -- it is associated with anger (for obvious reasons), and also the liver. Oh, the mnemonic is "get rid of worry, fast" -- for the emotions at least; the thumb is worry, and the other four are F.A.S.T. -- index is fear, middle is anger, ring is sadness, and the pinky is tension but more like pretension, e.g., showing something other than one's true self.

These can be combined; have multiple people each hold one of her fingers, etc, at least as far as physically possible.

At any rate, thank you for giving and I will join many others in praying for you and your extended family's safety and happiness.

Love,
TwelveOhOne

My Friend?

I can understand why you would want this feature. But I also think it could be wrong to brand someone with a "Scarlet letter" permanently. I think Michael as a caring person does right by giving several chances to folks because I have seen many users respect the warnings for what they were meant to be. I have seen many that have returned to respect the community and be great assets to the DP.

Yet there are some that never do respect it when they come back after repeated banning. So to brand them all might be considered to be stereotyping them all into one group when some are actually decent and others not so decent. Everyone is an individual in their own right and I think the DP is all about individualism without stereotyping. Make sense my friend?

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.

Hi friend!

I agree with your observation. History is important though; although stock vendors say "past performance is no guarantee of future returns", the quote tends to hold true for human behavior (and many other things, like chemical combinations, electricity, etc). And I believe that there were people who were banned who "saw the light" but Granger doesn't seem to be doing so, at least not in comments (perhaps her agreement with Michael was "don't post about Israel, feel free to comment" but it doesn't seem so from his recent comment to her).

Perhaps a compromise? On the "6 Month Posting Frequency" chart, could put a solid block for the time period that the user was banned.

This would then be a "temporary scarlet letter". But I don't think that this would have helped me with my issue, as that user (probably, I don't know) hadn't been banned in the previous six months. So I would prefer something more permanent.

Besides, actions on this site are recorded permanently, and may be reviewed for all time. My posts and comments are all accessible. (Banned users' posts and comments are harder to find, but I did find the post that resulted in that other user's banning, when we first spoke.) So I'm not certain why other metadata would necessarily be hidden.

Additionally, if it specified when and for how long each ban lasted, then it would also be a "receding scarlet letter" -- if someone hadn't been banned in two years, then that would show they've "been good" versus someone whose ban expired a couple weeks ago.

And I agree, it's a tough call. To clarify my intent: I want to help others so that they do not have to experience what I went through.

But I don't want to "make waves" either. I suppose some metrics are in order: how many people have been banned? How many people have received multiple bans? How many users currently participating in this site have been previously banned?

At any rate, I'm just thinking out loud, I don't expect Michael to answer these metric questions to me -- but if he considers my request by checking these and says "can't do it" I will be okay with that. (I'm not drunk, nor am I demanding anything of him, so I hope not to end up like LL for these comments.)

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

I understand and you have a point

There is a lot of data missing from the posting history of some users that were banned. This could be because I think sometimes the banned users content was so inappropriate that it had to be removed. I used to see this a lot when I first came here. Unfortunately what I have found is that if in question about a user I stay out of it until I can do the investigative work to make an honest and educated judgement. My best indicators are sometimes the consensus of the majority or the credibility of the the user defending or supporting the banned user. But even this is hard because you still have to do some looking into posting histories of these folks also. It's a tough thing to try and defend someone only to find out you may have been wrong in doing so. Trust me, It has happened to me many times too. But still, trying to defend someone is a good virtue and shows compassion and caring for others. A huge heart is hard to come by nowadays and is always a good example and very seldom looked down or judged even when it is mistaken in nature. "You did good by trying" In my book this is A-1 in character my friend! thank you!

"it is good for the establishment to adopt liberty ideology, but it is not good for those who have already adopted liberty to fall to the feet of the establishment." ~ Annica2

"Never let a problem to be solved...

... be greater than a person to be loved."

I readily admit that I am one of those people who has been largely driven away by the "negativity" on the DP. I've been spending more time on Facebook where I have some control over the environment.

Forums like DP will always be vulnerable to those who wish to poison the well. Even the best and most relentless moderation is just a Band-Aid.

The fix (like the problem) is technological. Software algorithms exist that could sort the posts and recommend those most likely to be of interest to a specific member based on the ratings of other members. Similar to the Netflix recommendations for a specific customer, the longer a person stayed on DP and the more posts he rated, the better the system would work. Just as it doesn't matter to YOUR Netflix experience how many people love "Desperate Housewives", it wouldn't matter how many moles, trolls, or bullies there were on DP, or how many thumbs ups they gave to each others' posts. Soon they would start to fall off your radar and be replaced by people who actually shared some of your core values and interests.

Pretty amazing eh?...

...Nice diagram :)

It really does put it into perspective that we are all one. And through this amazing time and/or circumstances that led us to become one.

Sometimes I myself forget about this special bond that we ALL have and share here.

It truly is amazing, and very awesome.

You reminded me of this. Thank you.

Happy travels Michael, and just be you. :)

What I have learned!

Through these years I have learned I am not ALONE! I am not crazy and there are indeed others out there who think and see and feel as I have thought and felt and seen. Ron Paul opened my eyes to that fact. And the Ron Paul people are the greatest people I have ever met!:)

Thanks for the diagram Michael !

I'm always drawing diagrams to get my kids to understand difficult concepts. I'm sure they think "oh, no, not another drawing"

It only took a few seconds for me to pick up what you were laying down.

Thank you very much for the time you've put into the DP.

We'll be friends forever!
