Senator-Elect Cory Booker Wants to Work With Sen. Rand Paul on Drug Law Reforms

Senator-elect Cory Booker sees revamping drug policies as one of the principal issues he can champion once he takes office in Washington, D.C., and he believes he can draw bipartisan support on the issue—even among those who supported his Republican challenger in the special-election race.

I like Booker

In 2006 my wife showed me a documentary called Street Fight. It shows councilman Booker (A Rhodes scholar) living in the projects of Newark taking on the well entrenched Newark political machine.

As a Detroiter I could sympathize as the documentary shows an old time dirty style of street politics in the modern setting. It's quite fascinating. Booker comes off as authentic. He later defeated and replaced the Newark Democratic machine against an incumbent backed by Sharpton and Jackson. He has many enemies among the New Jersey Democrats because he doesn't toe the party line.

Fixing the systems approach to drugs and incarceration is a major issue and a great place for libertarians and social liberals to build a bridge and improve the American justice system.

Yay! we can smoke pot after they take our guns away!

Ron Paul on his son Rand Paul:
"he does a lot of things similarly, but I think he does everything better. Than I have done over the years,"

Incarceration Rate

America's incarceration rate is incredible. Roughly 2.5 million prisoners. That's 25% of the globes prison population. The War on Drugs policy is a major part of it.

Gun ownership is also important. I don't see why it has to be one at the expense of the other. Anytime a Democrat wants to do something good you can't dismiss that person completely due to the parties anti-gun stance. If you watch the documentary you will see Cory Booker ended up with an armed body guard during a dangerous and ugly mayoral campaign.

Grandstanding about side

Grandstanding about side issues. It's what politicians do. Honest people discuss root causes.

Watch it

I encourage you to watch the documentary then you can have some more context to gauge his honesty. Booker is most certainly a politician, never doubting that. I don't see the purpose in attacking a liberal for wanting to reexamine the nations drug and incarceration policy.
