Droned Fetus Sparks Republican OutrageSubmitted by Ed Ucation on Fri, 10/25/2013 - 21:58
Republican leaders are expressing outrage at the news report of the recent drone strike in Pakistan that killed a pregnant woman.
"This is unacceptable," exclaimed Marco Rubio. "We must protect life. Killing that fetus is a clear case of murder. That's why I am introducing a bill that will make it illegal to drone a fetus that is older than 20 weeks. And for fetuses younger than 20 weeks, the drone operator is going to have to look at an ultrasound of the fetus before he sends the drone."
Democratic leaders are opposed to the bill. President Obama expressed his belief in a news conference today:
"I believe in a woman's right to choose. I believe that a Pakistani woman should be free to choose whether she wants to be blown up attending her sister's wedding while pregnant, or watching her child's elementary school leveled to the ground a few years down the line."
Even some Republicans weren't behind the proposed bill.
"What if that fetus turns out to be a terrorist?" asked Lindsay Graham. "We can't take that chance. You want an ultrasound? I say, shut up, fetus, you don't get an ultrasound! This is not the time to hesitate. We should not stop until all life on this planet is eliminated. Only then will we be safe from terrorism."
