Which State Matches Your Personality?

America’s Mood Map: An Interactive Guide to the United States of Attitude

West Virginia is the most neurotic state, Utah is the most agreeable and the folks of Wisconsin are the country's most extroverted, a new study says. Take TIME's test to find out which state most suits you

For a country that features the word United so prominently in its name, the U.S. is a pretty fractious place. We splinter along fault lines of income, education, religion, race, hyphenated origin, age and politics. Then too there’s temperament. We’re coarse or courtly, traditionalist or rebel, amped up or laid-back. And it’s no secret that a lot of that seems to be determined by — or at least associated with — where we live.

Now a multinational team of researchers led by psychologist and American expat Jason Rentfrow of the University of Cambridge in the U.K. has sought to draw the regional lines more clearly, literally mapping the American mood, with state-by-state ratings of personality and temperament.

Take the survey embeded in the story below.

and I have to admit, it is one of my favorite states to have lived in! :)

Thanks. Interesting & fun post, but

did you really mean "fractious?"

frac·tious adjective: causing trouble : hard to manage or control : full of anger and disagreement http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fractious

It put me in Tennessee.

Uh.... I don't think so. Been there. It's a nice place to visit, BUT...

Survey not like I expected.

It put me in GA. Screw that; I'll remain in IN.

played with it a bit, tweaking it a hair

Kept me in the west. Oregon, California, Utah and mostly Colorado. I'd probably settle for Colorado or Oregon. Except for the winters in Colorado takes that one out of the running. Not too familiar with Oregon's weather. It has to beat Indiana's rotten winters. I disagree want to get out of Indiana. It is a boring state for one. Cold winters. Controlled by NeoCons very loyal to the National Republican Party. Up in the north we are a suburb of the Democratic Machine of Chicago.

It's time! Rand Paul 2016!

My sister left IN for OR decades ago.

Winter is very mild compared to IN, if on coastal side of mountain range. Boring is different for different people. My sister has no high speed internet or cable. If you want big city excitement, other than Indy, there is none here and not much in OR. If you like mountains and remote areas, OR is great.

BTW, It dropped me in Illinois...I was really pulling for Hawaii

Avoid the Karl's 10 planks like the plague it carries.

9. ...; Gradual Abolition of the Distinction Between Town and Country by a More Equable Distribution of the Population over the Country.

The progressive pinheads never realized that Marx's 10 Planks created the most oppressive government in the shortest time, ensuring another violent revolution.

Marx was pessimistic, thinking that after we kicked the crap out of each other enough the communist utopia would erupt.

I keep my eye on the 10 planks and how the government's media present them.

I'll find out where it puts me later!
