A Note on the 'DP Original' Tag

A note on DP Originals.

As per the definition: Original content composed with time or thought.

Friends, this is your opportunity to speak truth to the masses! The Daily Paul is powered by people like you. Many (if not most) of the posts here are links to MainStream (some would say LameStream!) Media news. The DP Original is a way for you to reach out to your fellow lovers of Liberty with your own original creation.

But there seems to be some misunderstanding about what a DP Original is, and is not.

Hopefully the following will clarify things:

- - -

A naked link to an article you found on the Internets is NOT a DP original.

Other clarifications though example:

A video that you found on YouTube but did not make - No

A video by a DP member (you), that you made and put on YouTube, that is relevant to our discussion here - Yes! (for example, see videos by DP members Jan Helfeld & tradgedyandhope)

A post on your blog that you excerpt with a link that says "click here to continue" - No

A post from your blog that you reproduce in its entirety here for the DP community to read and discuss - Yes!

An image that you found on facebook - No

An image that you yourself made and put on facebook that is also relevant to the DP community - Yes!

An essay, story or vignette that you composed with time and thought to share with your friends here at the DP - Yes!

An unsubstantiated essay or story that you received in an email chain that sounds probably, maybe true, but you don't know for sure, and you don't know who wrote it, or where the it originally came from - No!

An announcement of who's coming up next on Fox News, because you just happened to be sitting around watching TV - No!

A post by the owner of the site explaining what a "DP Original" is - Yes! Ha ha ha.

An easy way to remember this:

If you didn't write it / make it yourself, it is not a DP original. Anything that includes the words, "click here to continue reading" is not a DP original.

Anything that you made / wrote yourself, and that does not include the words, "Click here to continue..." - Yes!

There are so many original thinkers here at the Daily Paul. YOU are what makes this a singular, unique place on the Internet.

Regurgitating thoughts and ideas from the broader media is a fine way to start a discussion. There is nothing wrong with that, and most of the posts here on the DP are exactly that.

However, there are many original thoughts and ideas here that don't fit into the MSM template. We need not submit ourselves entirely to MSM culture. Let's make our own culture! Celebrate yourself! Celebrate your own thoughts, your own insights and your own ideas. Post them, and share them here on the Daily Paul.

DPers, please help me police and enforce this. If you see a mis-tagged post, please leave a link to this post to help others understand the point, and so people stop mis-tagging posts. (It creates a lot of work for me and the moderators to retag them.)

The best solution to this problem (like most problems) is education.

Thank you for your help and cooperation.

And keep those Originals coming!

Blessings and thanks for all of your contributions to the cause of Liberty.

It is interesting

I never thought of it like that.. rather, and maybe because I'm not a writer, and only began writing to overcome the self hate for my dyslexia. Dyslexia being what it is, sometimes when I read what I have written, which amazes me how many mistakes become alternative ideas, no one "kills" me more than my dyslexia.

I only have the right to talk about and for myself. Here's a concise explaination http://www.take5moment.com/cgi/members.mpl?Action=View&id=24...

With that in mind, (and maybe because Berkeley is a school for nuclear energy, http://www.nuc.berkeley.edu/, yet it's covered up with "liberal Arts", that has resulted in a bigger disaster than had a nuclear facility at Berkeley been Fukashimaed, and that is the psychological MSM "greening" UN Agenda), your article reminds me, of the psychological part of the UN Agenda, the altruistic agenda that "kills" each individual, "I" by "I".

Is this Ayn Rand book on the list? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Virtue_of_Selfishness

"There is a fundamental moral difference between a man who sees his self-interest in production and a man who sees it in robbery. The evil of a robber does not lie in the fact that he pursues his own interests, but in what he regards as to his own interest; not in the fact that he pursues his values, but in what he chose to value; not in the fact that he wants to live, but in the fact that he wants to live on a subhuman level (see “The Objectivist Ethics”).

If it is true that what I mean by “selfishness” is not what is meant conventionally, then this is one of the worst indictments of altruism: it means that altruism permits no concept of a self-respecting, self-supporting man—a man who supports his life by his own effort and neither sacrifices himself nor others. It means that altruism permits no view of men except as sacrificial animals and profiteers-on-sacrifice, as victims and parasites—that it permits no concept of a benevolent co-existence among men—that it permits no concept of justice."

It seems, if one acts in their self interest, they are a "bully" in the NWO, because of the altruistic rather than productive social structure. Those are just some of my thoughts about your post.

Hoping and praying that vita mix is working it's healthy magic for you and yours!!

Gotta say you're wrong, Granger. You are a writer.

A writer is one who has written. Writing is telling stories. If you haven't before considered yourself a writer then you probably haven't read many of the rules and tips for how to be a good one, but one is - tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you told them. I'm trudging my way through The Creature From Jekyll Island which follows this format exactly, and tells a story also. I must say that while some people may question your facts, you trump Ed Griffin in the storytelling aspect. So indeed you are a writer. Admit it.

Still doubt if you're a writer? Get this book:

And remember the words of Eugene Ionesco (p 84):
"Why do people always expect authors to answer questions? I am an author because I want to ask questions. If I had answers I'd be a politician."

Update

Fundraising posts are not DP Originals.

FYI.

He's the man.

Good morning! Does that mean that my idea for...

'The bumper stickers of...' video series would not be considered a DP original?

Because I was here when I thought of it...

-Bumper stickers of the 2014 election
-Bumper stickers of the vitamin store
-Bumper stickers of the retirement home parking lot?

Just teasing bit

I was just teasing Michael a bit, As the original creator and owner everything he does here is a DP original. Just a play on keywords. He always posts in the proper place.

How funny would it be

if somebody created a new post "My thoughts on the DP original tag" then linked to this with an excerpt? :)
