that was great. thanks for posting the video

This video is really smokin

Darn it, I can't believe the State just banned all books and said that they proved there isn't a God. That's a real bummer because I sent Obama a link a week ago to my newly published book "Bible Believer's Archaeology - Historical Evidence that Proves the Bible" which he could read for free at http://www.biblehistory.net. What's up with that? He just ignored me. Oh, and Rod, please, you really got to put that nasty cigarette habit of yours away. Don't you know the State has found that to be Obsolete and is really going to tax the livin dickens out of you through the State health exchanges.

Such a shame this great post will devolve

Such a shame this great post about the obsolete state will devolve into "There is a God!" "There isn't a god!" There is! There isn't! is, isn't, IS! ISN'T!

IS!

IS!

Excellent! One of my all time

Excellent! One of my all time favorites! Watched this when I was a kid and now they have these all day marathons and it's great

Great insights into the man behind the Zone

I didn't know just how cutting edge Serling's writings were among his peers. What he did in moral dramas, with a sci-fi edge, was way ahead of many others. Sad that he passed so young.

Romney, OBSOLETE!

At least I can respect this Romney, and Romney's God!

The POTUS wanna-be that was posed as electable in the last election, WAS obsolete, an illusion; who's words were worthless at winning the hearts and minds any better than the state did in this Twilight Zone episode.

I love this Twilight Zone episode. Unlike most of you, I saw it when it was "new"... :p

Beware the cult of "government"...

In other words: "Truth is treason in the empire of lies."

First off I would like to say

First off I would like to say that I hate the concept of a god for the same reason I hate the concept of a state. Both assert that they have authority over mankind and I don't abide by that. I own myself and take responsibility for both my life and my actions. I am aware that either an organized state or religion can use force to make me do things I normally wouldn't do and this is the reason why they shouldn't exist.

I like this episode of the Twilight Zone with the exception of Wordsworth referring to the bible. The saying "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" applies to the old testament god of the bible, he makes the tyrants of the 20th century pale in comparison. Look it up.

I would have been overjoyed to have Wordsworth read some Rothbard, Spooner, and Rand quotations instead.

My two cents...

I hate the concept of god(s) also

But I found the acknowledged reality of a holy, righteous, living God to be the surest foundation for asserting self-ownership ever found in the history of the world!

See, if God revealed his greatest commandment is to love Him with all of my heart, with all of my soul, with all of my mind, and with all of my strength; and secondarily, love my neighbor as myself; then who should I fear of ANY title, secular or religious, as important enough to compete with Him for my affections or service?

True believers see themselves as stewards of what they've received, rather than masters who dominate and meddle as bullies or thugs.

"But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters." 1 Peter 4:15

I can understand your reaction

But I also think you have no real understanding of "GOD" and your rejection of Him is probably due to "organized" religion as you call it and a general rebellion against authority. It is a good thing to reject corrupt and oppressive authority but in rejecting all authority I think you err.

One thing that is undeniable is the correspondence between the societal norms and conditions when this show was made, when GOD was still considered a good thing, and today where GOD is only mocked in movies and television and those who believe in Him are made to look like idiots.

To me it is nice to watch old shows where the concept of God is not poo pooed, even though I generally don't believe in the religious practices that are associated with Him.

That's my two cents.

But I also think you have no

It's because I have no belief in the supernatural

and a general rebellion against authority.

Not a rebellion, it's that it's not legitimate to profess authority over anyone.

It is a good thing to reject corrupt and oppressive authority but in rejecting all authority I think you err.

If you don't think the old testament god is corrupt and oppressive you might want to take a look at the books of Genesis and Job to name just a few.

I kind of agree but I would change GOD to goodness, goodness defined as things not as they are but as they could or should be.

I was surprised at the down votes, I'm just saying how I felt about the show not what you guys should feel.

I understand what you are saying

but like I said I still don't think you understand God. Especially when you say this:

"If you don't think the old testament god is corrupt and oppressive you might want to take a look at the books of Genesis and Job to name just a few."

The mistakes and preconceptions in that sentence makes your lack of understanding apparent. But that is to be expected since you don't believe in God in the first place.

Just sayin.

I don't hate the concept of

I don't hate the concept of god in the least. Just because the bible version or organized religion version of what god is may not be agreeable, it doesn't mean to me that there isn't "god."

One of my favorite episodes.

One of my favorite episodes.

Here Rod Serling proved that a State without religion can be as oppressive as any theocracy. A warning that sadly, most of society has ignored.

"The characteristic feature of a free society is that
it can function in spite of the fact that its members
disagree in many judgments of value."

~ Ludwig von Mises ( 1881 ~ 1973 )

Interesting selection of Psalms read here

The assertion that faith in God made the pivotal difference in Romney Wordsworth's declaration of self-importance; apart from any church hierarchy, or allegiance; says that Sterling an/or the scriptwriters wanted us to know just how important a part of his journey this was.

With no external props, Mr. Wordsworth found strength and comfort in holy scripture to face the harshest reality far better than the secular statist who proved his obsolescence to the state by crying out to God in desperation when facing death himself.

So apropo! But---

our "state" has the power to control the masses, until the masses stop them from controlling us and the world.

But, ultimately the power remains in the hands of GOD, and our destiny lies with HIM.

There is no use fighting a world of pagans, a world of evil people, whose main goal in life is to put down, to hurt, to harm, to kill, to maim, and to destroy our very being, our very soul, even to destroy our belief in GOD, their ultimate enemy.

The "enemy" are soldiers of SATAN. There is no doubt about it, but they, too, will be judged and stopped.....someday.
