New York Times Writer Celebrates Single-Party Rule In California

"The New York Times news department has apparently become the official national propaganda machine of California’s liberals in control of state government, more-or-less in the same manner as the Soviet Communist Party’s newspaper Pravda served as the official organ of that one-party state in Russia during the Cold War."

Why the hate on California?

Been living in Cali for 12 years now and although we have our hiccups, it has been steadily improving for the better, fewer political gridlocks (lately), cleanest emission standards and easy and uncriminalized access to cannabis.

Not only is CA producing over 11% of the Entire US GDP (on its own, CA would be the 12th biggest economy in the world, more then Canada and Aus and just under India and Russia), but it is also a giver state, meaning it subsidizes many red state who would simply collapse without federal funding.

BONUS: After many years of budget fighting, we have a SURPLUS! You can play politics and hate on progressives all you want but you cant argue against the facts.

Conclusion: Chill out and come visit, it's nice out here, we'll smoke a bowl and kick it on the beach for a while. Don't listen to the media.

Budget surplus, did you read the article?

" California’s unfunded public employee pension liabilities are said to amount to $80 billion even by the pension system itself, but critics say the real unfunded liability is much more, a “ticking time-bomb” that threatens the solvency of the entire state and local government network."

We used to be the 6th largest economy in the world, now we've dropped to 12th.

It is a perfect example of what bi-partisan politics produced over a number of years. Spend, spend, spend. Now with a super majority, fiscal conservatives can't make a dent in the problems.

Wrong on all counts.

Wrong on all counts. Understanding of economic terms is important.

Pension Liabilities are a long term expense. They work on a multi-year/multi-decade time frame. (Think Mortgage)

Budgets are short term and work with monthly/quarterly/annual budgets, annual revenue growth. Etc. (Think utilities, rent, groceries/gas, etc.)

Having long term liabilities is not a problem as long as your payment do not exceed your budget. AKA, having a mortgage does not mean you are insolvent.

Also, CA GDP has grown for 8 of the last 10 years, Averaging 2.5-3% each year. The fact that one state is more powerful then 90% of countries (and 100% of US states)is amazing, and you are still upset and complaining?

My friends and I get jammed

My friends and I get jammed up by police for smoking all of the time. Some have cards, others do not. Palo Alto area turning in to total police state.

Thats unfortunate, cops can

Thats unfortunate, cops can be dicks, but good news is many CA police agencies are starting to adopt officer work webcams. It's gonna be much harder for them to abuse their authority once they are on tape 24/7.

Unfortunately that means that

Unfortunately that means that I will also be on camera without my consent, live-stream.

As a republican who is a native californian

It's a good article and I appreciate the perspective. It's definately not easy being a Republican in NORCAL, where some Democrats cannot control their profound and passionate resentment and blame for the GOP, and that is shared on a gut level by other Democrats who may not be so outspoken, but absolutely agree with the Democrat that rages against any Republican for any reason, and flipping over "Ayn Rand Paul a racist like his father".

It's common for a Republican to say, "I'm only registered Republican in respect to my great grandfather and vote Democratic for me."

I have no idea what's going to happen.

And yet if I simply try to

And yet if I simply try to take care of myself, an inoperable severe chronic pain patient with cannabis which in fact helps me reduce my intake of opioid medications by nearly 75% and helps me cope, in the smaller less instrusive state governments in nearly every southern state they would put me in a cage and seize assets. Good G-d fearing people.

But in G-dless California I have the freedom to do so, legally.

Go figure.

As a native Californian, this makes me sick to my stomach

that these people can gloat about the demise of a state that was once a very special place to live.
