Normally, endorsements are crap ...

... but not Ron Paul's.

Google is government.

I hope Dr Paul is successful.

I hope Dr Paul is successful.

Ken wins purely on the libertarian/liberty voters.

Its come down to us it seems. Dr. Pauls being called into sway the vote away from the libertarian candidate to the republican. Very interesting what plays out, my support stands behind Cuccinelli. Istand with rand and ron on the best suitable candidate for virginia. Remember you do not get everything in politics..

Thanks Dr. Paul

Hopefully some of the supporters will listen.

What to people actually agree

What to people actually agree with Cucinelli about? Really the only things I've heard on these forums is that people like his stance on the 2nd amendment and abortion. Is there anything else?

He has flirted with the idea of legalizing pot.

Plus his record as AG and State Senator. You know, there might be a reason that Ron Paul and a lot of the Liberty Movement in Virginia have supported him for years.

When he calls Ron Paul "My friend" he is being serious about it.

he has also flirted with cutting spending

In fact, he is an incorrigible flirt.

Yes

Limited government
Less taxes
Limiting the impact of Obamacare on Virginians
Pretty much keep Virginia a surplus state instead of a deficit state (like many are today).

"Once you become knowledgeable, you have an obligation to do something about it."- Ron Paul

Cuccinelli is doing the same

Cuccinelli is doing the same song and dance over lowering taxes that Mitt Romney did last year.

He says he's going to cut rates. Then someone asks him how the government is going to stay in the black. Does he say he's going to cut government spending? No, he says he's going to eliminate tax loopholes.

Ok, not great, but still at this point I see where he's coming form. Better to have lower rates and fewer exemptions/loopholes than high rates with these things -- less government favoritism.

But do we ever learn what these loopholes are that he's going to eliminate? No. Like Romney, he refuses to answer this fundamental question.

So one of two things happens. One, they don't actually cut enough tax loopholes to make up the lost funds, and Virginia runs deficits. Or two, they do cut enough tax loopholes, and the size of government remains the same and the overall tax revenues also remain the same.

I am a Virginian

I also work for the state of Virginia and would like to keep my job.

Its very important to me that the economy of Virginia stay healthy.
Cuccinelli was the first AG to sue the Obama Administration for the unconstitutional healthcare law. He believes in states rights and with this current administration that is crucial. I think he will do everything within his power to protect us from this current administration.

I also like that he has fought to exonerate those who were falsely imprisoned. Like this guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Haynesworth

"Once you become knowledgeable, you have an obligation to do something about it."- Ron Paul

Thanks for informing me about

Thanks for informing me about Haynesworth. From a quick scan of that page it does seem like that is something that Cuccinelli has going in his favor.

I still stand by what I said about him not being serious about reducing the size of government, though.

Thats fair

And for the 3rd party people out there I voted 3rd party in the last two presidential elections so I do believe in 3rd parties I am just unconvinced by Sarvis. So far the main thing he has used to differentiate himself is he is for gay-marriage and pro-marijuana legalization. That's fine those just aren't pressing issues for me personally right now.

I think we need to be careful that we evaluate each candidate individually. Towing the party line can apply to Libertarians as well.

look at his website

You may find Your answers there?

I'm not seeing much that

I'm not seeing much that would appeal to a libertarian on his website.

Maybe some of the ethics stuff? I don't live in Virginia so I don't know the context of these reforms, so maybe these are good things.

My point is that lots of people here are pushing for this guy simply by saying he's better than the alternative, but I don't get what's so great about this guy. He likes the second amendment and hates abortions... is that it?.

See earlier response by RonPaulFan67

In Summary, its a long term strategy:

1) Winning VA is key in presidential elections which is why Obama, Hilary, Biden, etc. are campaigning so hard for McAuliffe.
2) If the Pauls help Ken win, odds are VA delegation goes to Rand cementing his nomination at the convention as R candidate and most likely winning VA in 2016.

Ron doesn't usually play politics like this, but he's done it in the past for good reasons. This seems like a good reason (to him) if it helps his son to get elected president.

Remember though, our problems do not stem from "who" gets elected. They stem from a lack of education. Electoral politics will never solve this problem. "Government is a reflection of the people." Long story short, we need to continue to use the internet and all other tools to educate the public on liberty values and ideals. Candidates and elections will come our way once we hit a tipping point intellectually.

Please explain why Ron endorsed him in 2009

And I believe before as well. He truly likes and supports Ken.

awesome news!

Campaign for liberty should be running ads too.

We killed off the establishment repubs. Now it is time to go full throttle against the unions and Marxists.

Big picture...

is getting lost here. Cuccinelli is not the perfect candidate but he is WAAAY better than Terry McAuliffe and Robert Sarvis is not ready for prime time. He just isn't. Sarvis is still trying to figure out who he is and what he believes. The reason Ron AND Rand have endorsed Cuccinelli is because they understand what this means for 2016 if McAuliffe gets in: Hillary Clinton take Virginia. If McAuliffe can come in here and defeat Cuccinelli who has been in Virginia and has been out front in the fight for liberty then Hillary can win here also. Virginia went for Obama last time around and the demographics here are changing. There are many foreigners moving in and the Old South isn't what it used to be. The way to stop Hillary Clinton is to beat McAuliffe in Virginia. The Paul's know that which is why they are backing Cuccinelli. This is going to come down to the wire here and it could go either way. The polls say McAuliffe has it won but other polls have him losing ground quickly. Obama, The Clinton's, Biden and Bloomberg are all coming into town this weekend. If we lose here. We lose in 2016. Without Virginia and it's electoral votes we can't take back The White House.

So Ron Paul is campaigning for a guy that

is opposed to ending the drug war, wants to cut taxes by a mere 0.75%, refuses to pledge not to raise taxes, covered up the breast on the Virginia seal, think homosexuality is inherently wrong and wants laws to reflect that, filed a petition to uphold an anti-sodomy law that was been overturned, gets a mere "so-so" gun rights rating from the Virginia Citizens Defense League, and opposes constitutional carry?

I hate to say it, and I know I will be downvoted for this, but the Ron Paul brand ain't what it used to be.

Stay in the context of the conversation

I realize its hard to stay focused but I'm not talking about Romney.

This guy was trying to say that Cucc is a gun grabber and a so so record with gun owners and that just isn't the case.
This is according to the NRA and Gun Owners of America.

"Once you become knowledgeable, you have an obligation to do something about it."- Ron Paul

Cuccinelli had to be coached by the VCDL

in order to get a passing grade. I am just wondering what that is about.

“With laws shall our land be built up, but with lawlessness laid waste.”
-Njal Thorgeirsson

Gun Grabber?

If he is, then why did Gun Owners of America endorse him?

Am I supposed to believe that Ron Paul, and GOA both sold their souls at the same time?

What is the alternative?

I don't like what I have heard about the libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis. He does not like Austrian economics, he is hesitant about cutting taxes, open to expanding medicaid, prefers government black boxes in cars to monitor mileage, is die hard pro-choice (to include partial birth abortion) and and pro gay marriage. Sounds to me like this guy is a pro-gun progressive. Very similar views to Jesse Ventura. I will probably be voting for Ken.

the alternative

is that Ron Paul could simply not endorse anybody in the Virginia election. That's what he used to do when the Republicans nominated bad candidates.

He does not believe Ken is a bad candidate

His endorsement said this: "My good friend Donna Holt put it best by saying; “Ken Cuccinelli has been the most pro-liberty legislator and Attorney General we have ever had in Virginia. He is the only one who has consistently worked with the Liberty movement and the only one who has the guts to stand up to Washington"

"Ken Cuccinelli has always stood for smaller government and limited government, he has consistently and unapologetically worked with the Liberty movement in Virginia. His stand against ObamaCare shows he is willing to stand up to Washington's continued abuses on our individual liberties.I am proud to endorse to Ken for Governor of Virginia."

Cool!

I wish he would do more things around the country.

I posted the event and address before I read your link: http://www.dailypaul.com/304131/ron-paul-coming-to-virginia-...
