Mysterious Google Floating Structure Now Spotted on East Coast

After KPIX 5 reported on Google’s mysterious project on a barge off Treasure Island, reports have surfaced of the tech giant building similar floating structures outside of the Bay Area.

A report appearing in the Portland (Maine) Press Herald showed shipping containers stacked on a barge in Maine – with the structure appearing virtually identical to the Bay Area barge. Also, an unconfirmed report suggested a Google barge is taking shape in New London, Connecticut.

Both the Maine and Bay Area barges are owned by a company called By and Large, reports KPIX 5.

Are they preparing for the second great flood?

Or maybe float it out to international waters to avoid obamacare.

4 or 5 years ago I read about Google getting some patents related to floating datacenters where they use ocean water for cooling the datacenter.

These barges might be testing or implementation of those patents.

Alternatively, maybe Google is preparing for the possible necessity of moving their datacenters outside of US jurisdiction. If there ever is a government-gone-wild type crackdown, Google could send all their datacenter barges to safe zones throughout the world.

My first guess is that it's about the datacenter cooling, though.
