A Tin-Foil-Hat for HalloweenSubmitted by Promisekept on Fri, 11/01/2013 - 15:28
I took the invitation to a birthday/Halloween party with great group of neighbors, and set aside any occult history of the later, for the positive I could find in my friend's bday.
Always looking for clever ways to invite liberty conversations, I thought of a simple adjustment to my usual garb that I knew would get the ball rolling. By spreading a layer of foil over my baseball cap, folks would smile and offer a question or comment that showed their willingness to joke it up with our best gallows-humor.
My opening line was to explain that it was to block out alien and government signals beaming thoughts into my brain. That would usually get their attention, and more than once I heard that some thought it was to keep others from reading my mind. When they asked me if it worked, I would look a little miffed and say, "Yeah, it does! Before I used to believe that Obamacare was going to work well as they promised, and there really isn't an oppressive police-state rolling out around us,...but then I put this hat on, and suddenly I could see we are ALL in really deep crap!"
All would laugh, but some would contribute their own observations and open up friendly, though somewhat less comfortable than they usually are at a party. I'd move on without forcing more than folks wanted to banter or joke about. It went well.
