The Affordable Care Act is infectious and many will be forced into infection!

About two weeks ago my wife received a notice from her private medical insurer that due to the ACA, all health insurance companies are required to update health insurance plans to include specific benefits for people who buy their own insurance. This in tow has caused the "development" of new health insurance plans (not the same one she had) to replace their current plans. Her health insurance plan will "no longer be available after December 31, 2013".

The new plans effective date will be January 1, 2014 and will carry with it a premium/fee/tax increase of almost 35%. I know that may not sound like much to some, but when you are living paycheck to paycheck to payday advance it is an enormous burden. Needless to say, we will be cancelling her plan in December as the deductibles are increasing 100% for In-Network providers and 400% for Out-of-Network providers. In-Network Coinsurance is increasing 66% and office visit co-pays are going up from $35/visit to $60/visit even though there appears to be no visit limit for the calendar year as before. However, the number of visits allowed unless deductible and coinsurance are met is not telling of the plan's benefits. For example, I didn't go to the doctor at all this year and actually haven't been for almost 2 years, so it matters little if my visits are no longer limited, because if I do have to go my co-pay has gone up 66%.

So how many here at the DP have received notices or your family members received notices stating they can no longer "keep their existing plan" and "see the same physician(s) as before" like Obama claimed you could?

Stay fast friends, the ACA is going to bury itself in it's own contradiction of literature and I cannot wait to witness the day it does.

Peace and Love always.

I recently cancelled our

I recently cancelled our health insurance and will never purchase any again. The premiums have been going up $100-$150 per month (each annual renewal)for the past 4 years. I'm not sure if our plan will be grandfathered under obamacare...but regardless, I'm sure the premiums would be going much higher.

We're going to be eating healthy and take responsibility for our health. Any health expenses will be paid in cash. If any necessary procedures get too expensive, we'll be taking a trip to Panama, Costa Rica, Ecuador, etc. Once we get there, we may not even come back.

Thanks.

Also, you might want to type out ACA in your post, at least at first mention. That way, readers will know what it stands for instead being how I was, confused, assuming they don't scroll down to happen across our conversation here.

To the poster and to anyone who cares about conveying a written message:

A rule of writing: Caring about readers is to avoid forcing them to research fundamental information in a composition. Not only is this avoidance respectful to the reader, it allows him to spend quality time on the composition including finishing it, reducing to almost nil the chance of him putting it down due to spending time looking up information to understand what is what. To have sight for your audience is a win-win.

I know one thing, I will not

I know one thing, I will not under any circumstances be signing up through that website. It is a security nighmare and a complete disaster waiting to happen. Someone WILL hack it. There is no getting around that. With so much of peoples info in one spot, is like a giant target simply covered in a nice 'protective' plastic bag to keep it fresh.
Interesting thought, if I were to get in writing an assurance that it was safe, only to have it hacked at a later point, could I sue them and win?

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

My Wife Did

She's always carried catastrophic coverage with enough money set aside to cover anything for which she would have to cover out of pocket.

Which has been very very little. She abhors medical intervention, and has almost no medical expenses. It is ridiculous that she will be forced to purchase "better" insurance.

Well, she recently received a letter informing her that her policy will no longer be available as of January 1, 2014.

Now she will be forced to effectively subsidize someone else's insurance, or have someone else effectively subsidize hers.

They are pretending that we are all winners here. That is an economic impossibility.

Nice thread - could not agree

Nice thread - could not agree more with the ending statement "Stay fast friends, the ACA is going to bury itself in it's own contradiction of literature and I cannot wait to witness the day it does". People with insurance being cancelled need to fight their fear and hang tough and not sign up.
