Ron Paul rejects libertarian candidate in Virginia for Governor

On Monday, former Congressman and staunch libertarian Ron Paul (R-TX) campaigned for Virginia Republican Governor candidate Ken Cuccinelli and said Virginias would be giving up on liberty if they voted for Democrat Terry McAuliffe in Tuesday's election and would be "insane" if they voted for so-called libertarian Robert Sarvis, the third-party candidate who may siphon enough votes from Cuccinelli to spoil the election.

Cuccinelli favors big business over rights of landowners:

"Consol is a major contributor to Cuccinelli’s gubernatorial campaign, giving more than $111,000 . The company donated $32,000 to his successful 2009 campaign to be attorney general. The other firm involved in the dispute has not been a donor. Cuccinelli has said donations had nothing to do with the position his office took in the matter."

I was disappointed when I saw

I was disappointed when I saw the commercials about this, and it made me second guess if I was going to vote for him or not.
I still don't understand why Cuccinelli never made a rebuttal commercial about this because I think it was a really effective ad for the Democrats.
Sarvis has hardly any chance so either I can not vote which helps McAuwfille who has many scandals of his own or stick with Cuccinelli, and hope he keeps on the straight and narrow if he wins.

Here's what I'd like to know...

Why the F-(!!!!) didn't the LP focus their efforts on running someone in NEW JERSEY where establishment shill Christie is about to win, rather than F-ing up Ron Paul endorsed constitutional conservative Cuccinelli in Virginia? Not too smart folks, not too F-ing smart...

the question you should ask is:

Why is Chris Christie winning by a landslide in a blue state?

This saddens me.

pink is my favorite color...

:(

because he is

a Democrat, but his policies will never flying anywhere but the NE entitlement zone of America and Californication.

or perhaps, just perhaps

it has something to do with the fact that he is not a socon culture warrior?

Look, I am no fan of Christie. He sucks. But Republicans need to learn that if they want to win, they need to drop the social issues and focus on fiscal conservatism and cutting spending. This, however, will never happen. Why? Because Republicans care more about the social issues and just pay lip service to cutting spending. And that's why Cuccinelli will lose.

lol

thats dumb, there were about 8 candidates that ran the way of Christie in the Senate last year on the GOP side and they all lost.

The only GOP members that won open seats were Conservatives or Liberty Candidates.

True Indiana and Missouri lost, but it was more from a lack of funding from the skank GOP Senate fund.

Not everyone has a hurricane to benefit from.

won't work in blue states

Yes.

From the comments

GPSarvis is a LINO. A real Libertarian could NEVER vote for that Libertarian Poseur. Ron Paul knows the ONLY true constitutionalist is Cuccinelli in this race

Voters aren't interested in

Voters aren't interested in "constitutional". They're interested in covering their own butts.

"Voters" including YOU.

cannot define the difference between a Democracy, and a Republic.

can you even tell me what our constitution is? why do we even have it?

There's something to be gained from a Cuccinelli win...

...there's nothing to be gained from a vote for Sarvis.

so disappointing

So I watched the video with Sarvis that people are using as evidence that Sarvis is allegedly open to raising taxes. You know what he actually said? That rather than just talking about cutting taxes, it's more important to bring the spending under control. This is what Ron is now opposed to? What.....the.....hell.

so we are downvoting cutting spending now, are we?

ok then

What Don't You Get? We support Ron Paul's Endorsement, y not u?

You are the only one here on DP whom seems opposed... I wonder if you aren't a troll.

A.Hansen

not true

This endorsement by Ron Paul is the first thing he has ever done that has made me extremely disappointed. There have been a few things Ron Paul has done that I did not agree with ... and a few endorsements he made that I did not care for, e.g., he endorsed Ted Cruz, didn't agree with that, but that was a lot easier to accept than the Cuccinelli endorsement.

But for the record, I have never considered myself a Republican. I supported Ron Paul DESPITE the fact that he is a Republican. The thing is, Ron Paul ran on a very different record than Cuccinelli, specifically, they deviated on social issues in a major way. While Ron Paul may agree to disagree with Cuccinelli on those issues, it should not be surprising that those differences might be deal-breakers for many Ron Paul supporters. I will support a Ron Paul clone; not somebody who is aligned with him on 60% of the issues.

At the end of the day, Cuccinelli lost, so the only thing Ron Paul's endorsement managed to accomplish is division amongst people on this website.

Ron Paul is a staunch pro

Ron Paul is a staunch pro lifer.

I am not talking about abortion

If that were the ONLY "social conservative" view that Cucinnelli had, I would not have a problem with him. The Libertarian Party is flexible on this issue (unlike you apparently) - e.g. back in 2001 they nominated Sabrin for the governor's race in NJ .. (a BLUE state no less) ... and had the most successful result in that race ever.

Cuccinelli feels that legislating moral behavior is appropriate; Ron Paul does not.

There were 3 types of LP

There were 3 types of LP voters last night

The protest vote
The 10% vote
The social vote

None of which justifies giving the election to Obama Jr.

There needs to be some strategy here.

Totally agree with you. When

Totally agree with you.
When the only third party is Libertarian it sucks votes away from Republicans not Democrats. I would love it if another third party that appealed to the Democrats was on the ballot that way it evens out.
If these are the the three parties we get on the ballot then far left Democrats will win most of the time.
