Hey GOP, wake up! You NEED us!

Well with the Republican nominee for Governor barely losing tonight in Virginia, it was due to the Libertarian nominee getting 7% of the vote. Looks like about 5% of that vote could have been Republican.

You need people in your party that stand up for privacy rights!

You need the young people!

You need people who stand up for civil liberties, and unlike the Democrats, we actually see guns as a civil liberty!

You need people who can actually see the hypocrisy in the party, and will walk the walk by cutting defense spending!

Establishment Republicans talk about compromise? Well, libertarians are the ultimate compromise! We truly take the best from both parties.

Tonight should be your wake up call.

Not as long as they have the bankers.

The bankers control contributions, the military-industrial complex and the media. Don't forget, Gary Johnson was polling at nearly 10% in Ohio until the media spin dropped him below 1%.

HEY GOP ...

I'll make this as plain as I can ...

No way

No way the GOP can take the steps you describe no matter how necessary. To do so would require that they would have to renounce the Fundies' authoritarian agenda. Judging from the comments below the daily Paul has its share. The beef with Sarvis and the libertarians in general is they refuse to base their political views on a faction of Christianity's Taliban most recently represented by Cuchinelli. Fundementally incompatible to any libertarian principles I am aware of.

Call yourself "real" libertarians if you like. It doesn't make it true. Sarvis' "socially tolerant, fiscal conservative" message resonates with a lot of regular folks particularly the young. Homophobia disguised as "anti sodomy" and other authoritarian positions are not going to cut it.

Thetis

I am done supporting ANYONE at the fed level

I loved supporting ron paul in his last two presidential runs. It felt great to get the word out about liberty and individual responsibility BUT in the end everyone just falls back into the two party b.s. of the democrats did it or the republicans did it.

I am not putting any of my evil FRN's into ANYONES pockets at the federal level even if Ron Paul himself runs again.

There is no reason for me to put my effort into that POS sinking ship of a fake ass 2 party system.

And I see the same exact thing happening in the 3rd party arena as well. If I am going to help get out the vote it will be for my own locality or state ( if at all ) but I doubt I will even trump on that level either.

More power to anyone who wants to participate in all these charades but I think I will just focus on educating those around me in a way that simply gets them prepared for economic ups and downs, ability to at least understand off grid living PERKS and benefits as well as the reasons to stock up on food/water/supplies if only for potential weather issues or power outages.

I can't stomach voting for Rand Paul and I will say that if it was Rand trying to "wake me up" 2 presidential cycles ago I wouldn't have even bothered nor would MOST of us who were on the dailypail and the ron paul forums, participating in all the money bombs, breaking daily donation records, screaming at our local news stations for not covering him and staying up all night yelling at the other candidates when they tried to trash him.

Ron Paul is a statesman and Rand is a politician just like the rest of the asshats trying to pretend like they are going to do something REAL once they get in office.

No need

With the spit still dripping from our collective faces in light of the 2012 campaign I still do not understand why anyone is trying to sway Republicans or Democrats. A complete look at the history of government proves only that we need to avoid it. Personally I will waste no further time or money on trying to sway people of government or the people who support government in any form. Government, constitutional or not, is tyranny in organized fashion. Continuing to put resources into the leviathan only enables it to limp on. Let it die. Get involved with your community!

What is the history of the parties?

What year was it limited to two parties? 1972.

In grudge matches as dirty as the day is long one candidate wins the crowd favor that show up. Personality wins over principle or even in spite record.

Bottom line is that government would be great if it weren't unworkable.

As soon as a government is given the authority to borrow and the responsibility to tax to pay debts, liberty is lost eventually, even totally.

It was foreign creditors who a contract with a government that had the right to borrow and tax.

There has never been treasure in the treasury yet the Congress has $17 Trillion in debt that cannot be questioned.

Well Said

Particularly how you call out those who truly won't compromise.

The GOP prefers democrats and any agenda participating candidate

to win, over any person who truly shows they are trying to legitimately save this country from being transformed into a government authoritarian future. Not all of them are bad people, but many of them are sold on the idea that the people aren't knowledgable enough to know what is best for the many. The majority of people these days buy into all kinds of marketing, whether the product is any good or not. People have lost their appreciation for freedom in this decadent society. We debate trivial things, designed to counter important arguments. They will never fear the people catching on to this, because by the time they open their eyes, it will be to late. Through the study of psychology and the group mind, they feel they can steer us wherever they want us. You can't fool everybody all the time, but you can fool enough people to get what you want. You can make most things sound good with a little spin.

At the D.C. establishment level

the Two parties don't really exist. The only reason for there being the impression of two parties is to manipulate elections. They can allow just enough Republican puppets to win on election day to string along conservative false hope in perpetuity. They have their well paid off media mouths to sell the false hope & soften / rationalize the losses.

Time to go independent or start a 2nd party

the Dem/GOP party is outdated and corrupt.

Ron Paul changed my mind

I used to think that, and after three Indy campaigns with Nader, who I didn't agree with on a few issues, I totally agreed we need to open debates and ballot access, so I worked with him (and he was not happy what I told him I was going to support Ron Paul in 08).

I'm convinced what we really did was give each state the opportunity to block any third party or Indy from getting ballot access, and where we thought we could a decade ago, the rules changed.

You should go to alocal GOP meeting and see if there's any liberty republiCANs.. if you came to my meeting you would be, "Wow!".. we're atalking about elections and who is going to run, so it's very exciting time to be involved, who knows you might get offered a job passing out Justin Amash flyers..

Ron Paul

Do you notice a difference between 2008 Ron Paul and 2012 Ron Paul? In 2008, Ron Paul couldnt care less about the GOP and endorsed 3rd party candidates. In 2012, Ron Paul did not endorse any. What changed between those two dates?....Rand Paul was in the senate

What about

Ron Paul supported third party candidate Chuck Baldwin, Constitution Party. He held, what I think is the only MSM third party debate where only "Libertarian" Bob Barr did not show up (and the fact the Libertarian nominee did not show up should show Libertarians that they are being played politically.

The big difference between the dates are the people like me who had no interest in the GOP, but would up joining the GOP taking committee seats and offices. Ron Paul had more people in the GOP, and so the GOP had to resort to dirty tricks.. and many of us suffered the changes..

In 07/08 I couldn't understand why Ron Paul would insist on sticking with the GOP.. in 2012 my only regret was not joining the GOP in 07.. I could have done even more for Ron Paul if I had.

Ron Paul was RIGHT ON about the GOP.. and we will have a president Paul, and I'm happy to be in the position to help make that happen because we're ready for Preibus and the silencer.

FOCUS. It is Constitutionalism; Not Conservatism or Libertarian

FOCUS. It is Constitutionalism; Not Conservatism or Libertarianism;

The founders spent years examining what was necessary for free INDEPENDENT republic"S" based upon past histories of failed attempts.

As written, aside from the obvious mistake over slavery to get southern states to sign the Constitution, which have been corrected in the documents;

The principles of the Declaration of Independence and "LIMITED COMPACT" of the Constitution are as close to perfect when followed under the ORIGINAL INTENT set down in the Ratifying Conventions and established in Common Law Principles.

Here are 6 Founders Documents and 2 APP Article links that show the LIMITATIONS of the Federal Government and the need for small, strong, LOCALLY well represented republics, that resolve the issues of both Conservatives and Libertarians (both ill defined definitions because those that usually promote them vary so greatly in stands that they are blurred beyond definition):

Which include the

The Absolute Rights of the Colonists 1772 (Common Law Inalienable Rights and Individual Powers;

Maybe the Republicans need another 40 years in the wilderness

I don't often, or as much as I should look to the bible for a comparison, but Exodus may be a good source. As I recall from the years my parents sent me to bible study, I think the story of Jews leaving Egypt is fitting here. They left with Moses for freedom, but then they want back to the Pagan ways of Egypt. God cursed them to wander the desert for 40 years, "until this generation passes away".

The Republicans were out of government control (three branches) for 40 years until the Dubya administration. Once in control the Republicans abandoned the conservative, libertarian, small government principals they stood for and became big government progressive democrats.

Just maybe they need another 40 years in the wilderness, until this generation (of republican leadership) passes away.

This was not about the GOP.

This was not about the GOP. Cuccinelli was a Ron Paul guy.

It seems that the LP used the Ron Paul supporters to get exposure in 2012 and slapped them in the face last night. They turned the Liberty movement into a 3rd party movement.

Thanks, Unknownuser

I stand corrected.

The LP was used as a tool by

The LP was used as a tool by the DP in Virginia. They would not have received more than 2% if it weren't for the DP bundler. A tool...that's all they were. There was no victory here.

Funny thing is ...

young people that didn't know much of jack about politics in 2007 have watched the steady stream of vitriol from people just like yourself railing against the Libertarian Party for the failures of your own Republican Party.

Keep on keeping on. The last governor race in Virginia that had a candidate other than a D or R was in 2005 and they only received ~4%. 10% is a healthy improvement.

Thanks conservatives for your ongoing efforts demonizing the Libertarian Party and convincing more young people they really don't want anything to do with a-holes in the GOP than the Libertarian Party ever could have on its own.

Libertarian Party homers are just ridiculous.

Look, I'm a registered Libertarian myself, but let's be real: Sarvis was a phony candidate bankrolled by an Obama supporter whose views were way out of touch with actual libertarianism. Claiming his inclusion on the ballot as a "victory" is very hollow when it was done as a political tactic by the Democrats, not because he was some amazing candidate.

I don't play, I commission the league.

You know ...

if you folks are going to slander the hell out of someone ... I think I would like to see some hard evidence.

I am looking at this article:

"Among the negative press Sarvis received was an Election Day article in The Blaze that reported the Libertarian Booster PAC – which gave in-kind donations totalling $11,454 to Sarvis, mostly for ballot petitioning – received $150,000 in January from Joe Liemandt, a wealthy Democratic donor who also gives to Libertarians.

The donor in question didn't donate to my campaign," Sarvis counters. "He donated to a Libertarian PAC well before I got into the race."

http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2013/11/07/sarvis-says-h...

Where is your evidence to support what you are claiming? I am not claiming some "phony candidate [was] bankrolled by an Obama supporter whose views were way out of touch with actual libertarianism."

Since you are and that comment you just made above is vague as hell lacking anything resembling evidence ... how about ponying up some evidence.

Label Jars, Not People!

Listen...I get it. I'm

Listen...I get it. I'm Libertarian leaning. The only reason I am not a libertarian is because I am pro life. The Constitution protects ALL life and life starts in the whom. Murder is wrong no matter how it's done...drone, gun, or sucked out of the whom.

I voted for GJ because write ins would not be counted. It was a protest vote. I don't align with his views on abortion and writing in Ron Paul was not an option here.

But voting for Sarvis was completely ineffective last night.

Libertarians can be pro-life

....the abortion question is fundamentally outside libertarianism.

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

The Libertarian Party platform position is that

abortion is fundamentally outside of government not libertarianism.

"Recognizing that abortion is a sensitive issue and that people can hold good-faith views on all sides, we believe that government should be kept out of the matter, leaving the question to each person for their conscientious consideration."

http://www.lp.org/platform

That means the Libertarian Party does not advocate a gun should be pointed at anyone by government for poor moral choices which is not the position of pro-lifers. Pro-lifers do want to use other peoples money so the guns of government can point guns at women to prevent or punish poor moral choices ... at the federal level to boot.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone excludes government ...
