China is spying on you through your KETTLE

"Russian investigators claim to have found household appliances imported from China which contain hidden microchips that pump spam data and malware into wi-fi networks.

Authorities in St Petersburg allegedly discovered 20 to 30 kettles and irons with 'spy microchips that send some data to the foreign server', according to Russian media..."

Real Threat

Most of the DOD and secure communications equipment in the US is made in china.

Furthermore... The first thing the software does is load an update from ROM that was updated the first few times the equipment was connected to the network.

I have some "made in America" routers and I happened to be watching an upstream router track what happened on one of the rare reboots of one of our internal firewalls. The router firewall made a TCP Connection to China for half a second and THEN started to acknowledge normal network traffic to it.

I imagine it does a simple "phone home" or kill switch is why it did not process traffic until the connection to China said "OK" for it to continue the boot process.

Scary.
