I hate Porn

Pornography is a problem.

Porn is like a narcotic, it hijacks the brain, it redefines human sexuality, and in the meantime ruins lives, destroys families, and destabilizes ministries. And honestly it’s a problem that makes me tired — tired of the devastation Satan is causing to children, women, families, pastors, churches, and the world with this tragic evil.

Porn became a problem for me when I was only six, and by the grace of God that problem ended when Jesus saved me at age seventeen. But I know it rarely happens so cleanly. It is still a temptation, yes; temptation abounds living in the city I do, and with the heart I have, but grace abounds all the more in Jesus Christ.

Friends, I hate porn. And here’s why.

Ovid and especially his erotic elegies were reproduced, imitated and exaggerated in the Carmina Burana.[14] Following Ovid, depictions of sexual intercourse in the manuscript are frank and sometimes aggressive. Great.

Don't watch it.

Porn is only damaging when

Porn is only damaging when people let it control them. A single person with no desire to have the responsibility of relationships has every right to watch porn and masturbate.

Please come join my forum if you're not a trendy and agree with my points of view.

Well, that seems like a sad life.

But I respect your position because you're an individual who has a right to decide your own path and I won't use my personal opinions or philosophies to try and bad mouth or shame you. You won't get the same courtesy from many here...mostly just the Christians, though. They really go out of their way to prove how sinful everyone is but themselves.

Ben Franklin was a big fan of porn

If authorship is any indication, anyway. The author of "Advice to a Young Man on the Choice of a Mistress" and "The Speech of Miss Polly Baker," is also reputed to have been one of the first American's to have acquired a copy of John Cleland's erotic classic "Fanny Hill." Of course, Franklin also flirted with fiat scrip for a while, so his judgment couldn't have been all that sound, after all.

Watching porn

Is not mandatory. Just go back to using your imagination like people used to do.

Good to know...

now what does this have to do with freedom?

Christ also advised letting go of hate for it leads to evil...

Let go of anger, and leave rage behind. Do not be preoccupied, for it only leads to evil.”- Psalm 37:8 from GOD'S WORD® Translation

"Cease from anger …that … wicked people are permitted to carry out their plans...Do not allow your mind to become so excited that you will indulge in harsh or malignant [thoughts or] remarks; See always that you are right [in your ways regardless of what] others may be… Look to your own character and conduct first.” -Barnes' Notes on Psalm 37:8

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery; none but ourselves can free our minds. - Bob Marley

Sin is evil so is Porn

There are so many things we can say about pornography, but the ultimate issue is selfishness. It gratifies oneself without regard to the well being of anyone else. It is the mentality of "when I want it, where I want it, and how I want it." It is exalting oneself to the status of God and demand self satisfaction at will. So it is self-centered.

The true intimate relationship created and designed by God is NOT so. It is based on love flowing out of self, flowing towards your husband or wife, flowing out to the person whom you have united with in Christ.

So pornography is totally against the intimate relationship designed by God. It is meant to destroy that intimate relationship between husband and wife and to destroy the capacity to have such intimate relationship with your future wife or husband.

It is sin. And we all should hate sin to the utmost. We need to renounce it, hate it, flee from it, and stay away from it, and by the power of the Blood of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, God can keep us clean from this filthy defilement. God is the only one can keep us clean, so if you are troubled by this sin and bound by it, cry out to God for help! Don't rely on yourself, rely on Him, He is ABLE to SAVE. HE is MIGHTY to SAVE!

On the the virtues of self-control...

Personal liberty provides the opportunity to learn the virtues of self-control, a prerequisite for taking responsibility for one’s own behavior. Ironically, those who reject personal liberty become slaves to the compulsive desires for things that fall outside their own moral choice.

Don't hate.

Don't hate.

The spoon made me FAT

Same argument is behind gun control, and the Anti porn crusade.

Its not the tool, it is the persons behavior. What we see is the same pattern. Blame the tool so we don't have to take responsibility for our behavior.

I think its time to grow up.... Seriously.

I hate Prohibition more.

It always ends up worse.

I concur with your point here.

Outright prohibition will not solve the problem, but open debate on the subject and a very specific approach to tolerating certain kinds of it while condemning others will probably do a lot to alleviate the negative consequences of it.

One of the problems with a lot of modern Evangelicals is that they've embraced a variation on the Erastian Heresy, which basically argues that you can eradicate sin by having the magistrate/government punish everyone who engages in it. This obviously goes down a similar road to what a lot of Communist countries did on the economic side of the coin, which involves everybody snooping on each other, which violates the sanctity of a person's home, another biblical principle laid out in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Old Testament (lots of American Fundamentalists love that part of Genesis for expressing their disapproval of homosexuality, but seem fine with going down the same road as the people of Sodom in violating a person's place of living).

Sex is like any other gift of nature (food, alcohol, entertainment, et cetera), the issue isn't some inherent evil in the act, the issue is in moral abuses and excessive consumption. And whatever the laws are, you will have those things, so it's better to debate and convince, thus gradually whittling away at all the problems that go with it.

“My attitude toward progress has passed from antagonism to boredom. I have long ceased to argue with people who prefer Thursday to Wednesday because it is Thursday.” - G.K. Chesterton

I don't disagree

but one word encapsulates everything you just said.

"Liberty!"

It's just another thing that

It's just another thing that 99.9% of people will enjoy every once in a while, or not at all while the other .1% becomes addicted. It's not satan or god, but chemicals in your brain and in some cases a certain stimulus instantly rewires a part of the brain that most people have set more firmly.

Obviously you had an uncontrollable problem, but you are the exception and not the rule. It's not a shortcoming, just random chance of genetics and upbringing.

My take on the pornography question.

Anyone who thinks that pornography is an inconsequential vice should be encouraged to read up on some of the people who have been in said industry and have suffered from it psychologically and physically, to the point that they either commit suicide by some conventional means, or simply rot themselves away gradually through substance abuse. Likewise, if you want to also consider the high rate of violence that tends to go with being in the more seedy areas of said industry, there's plenty of media out there on the subject.

Having said that, I have to admit that I myself have been the occasional consumer of the soft-core variant of the product going back to my teens, though for the past 10 years I've been weening myself off it as much as possible. I think an outright prohibition on pornography is an impossibility, and will go down the exact same road as alcohol prohibition and the drug war. I think St. Augustine of Hippo was right in his assessment of the nature of sin, it is a systemic problem within the whole of the human race, and for most it is far too pervasive to simply be ripped away through brute force, especially in contemporary American pagan culture where the individual is HIS own god and HIS will be done (and this goes double for a lot of people who think they've embraced Christianity), consequences notwithstanding.

One thing I know for sure, the more pervasive non-procreative sexuality comes, the closer the nation that embraces it comes to its own self-destruction. No children, no people, no getting around it. People might say that they are wary of things like Shariah Law coming in, but when considering that Muslim men can take 4 wives and compel them to never use contraception, America will probably be praying to Mecca in a couple generations and stoning a lot of people who normally only faced verbal admonitions for engaging in various personal vices.

Ah...the anti-porn crusaders on DP

Ah the anti-porn crusaders (many DPers commenting on this post, not the OP) who come out to “protect” women and proclaim women to have the minds of children, incapable of making smart decisions with their lives.

Porn posts on DP always seem to bring out an odd convergence and a peculiar harmony amongst liberals/feminists and neo-cons/traditionalists. The liberals/feminists get outraged because apparently porn debases and objectifies (only) women who willingly decide to cash in on their bodies (choice), while the neo-cons/traditionalists swoop in to protect the “feeble minded” and “weak” female of the species in an effort to prove who has the larger set of antlers. Together this strange pairing unites and dances to demean women.

What’s even more amazing is how many of the anti-porn posters here describe how women in porn are victims. Seriously?!?! I’ve made this point in many of my comments but I’ll say it again, willingly signing a contract to get paid to have sex for other people's viewing pleasures...that’s exercising free will.

“Sink, swim, go down with the ship; but use your freedom of choice.” Devo

Yes, they get paid

They get paid for selling their bodies and soul. They get paid to be debased and to be objectified. They get paid to be humiliated and to be used and abused. Sure, they get paid millions of dollars, only to be destroyed in this life and perhaps the next.

Yes, I understand what you mean by free choice, liberty, etc, etc, etc. Yet, how can you stand idly by and just watch people's live being destroyed? Even though it is their choice? How can you NOT speak out against the evil? They are precious souls created by God. They reflects the imagine of God. Each one of those "actors" and "actress" are created in the imagine of God. And now they abuse themselves and let others abuse them and humiliate them. Oh, if you would only see the tragedy, the sorrow, the despair, the hopelessness of their hearts!

“While women weep, as they do now,
I'll fight
While little children go hungry, as they do now,
I'll fight
While men go to prison, in and out, in and out, as they do now,
I'll fight
While there is a drunkard left,
While there is a poor lost girl upon the streets,
While there remains one dark soul without the light of God,
I'll fight-I'll fight to the very end!”
William Booth

Your take on wanting to save

Your take on wanting to save people is noble. Here’s the thing, I don’t like to dictate to people how to live their lives, as long as they are not hurting me, the people close to me, or others that I don’t even know.

I eat mostly organic foods, and while I’m not 100% vegan, I try to limit as many animal products from going into my body as possible. I CHOSE to do this for health reasons once my father was diagnosed with cancer and eventually passed away. Again, I chose to do this after extensive research, feeling that while there are no guarantees in life, I want to treat my body in what I determined is the best way possible.

I enjoy my diet, I feel the benefits, and I am happy to discuss my limited knowledge with anyone that wants to discuss it, which happens often. Is my diet different now than it was 5-10 years ago? Completely. Are there moments where I’d like devour a greasy bacon cheeseburger? Definitely. But I exert self control for the sake of what I feel is right for my body and I find other things to eat that satisfy my cravings.

Conversely, I don’t feel it is my place to dictate to others what they should ingest, be it through preaching to them or pushing for new legislation (Bloomberg style). If I’m at a barbeque and everyone is enjoying themselves, who am I to rain on their parade. I respect their decisions and hopefully they respect mine, which usually involves eating before I get there OR bringing something else to eat. Everybody is happy.

Lots of hypocrisy here and

Lots of hypocrisy here and people who just don't understand the basic concepts of liberty. Trust me, you know if these people had the absolute power to institute their anti whatever beliefs using force, they would do it.

I post whats on my mind or

I post whats on my mind or find interesting. It appears there is a lot of thought and emotion about this subject. It has caused people to
1 think 2 defend 3 discuss, which i thought were all important in a free society.

My feelings are not hurt and i don't seek for everyone to up vote the article i found. I just recently had a friend ruin his engagement to porn and prostitution and felt like maybe this could help someone if they were going through porn or prostitution problem. It's a shot in the dark to help people but it's still a shot. Little did i know i was going to hear about peoples sex life and other stuff.

I completely understand you cannot legislate morality and this is what it is about. All social issues should be a states rights issues, the morality of people in different states i hope will always be different. I also understand the dangers of the religious for when Christ came that is who he opposed.

But what gets me the most is by whos standards do we all go by? Why is porn not ok to watch in public? Why is sex not aloud in public? Why is the age 18 for sex? Why can you only have 1 wife? Why are there laws against bestiality? The standards in which we all choose is what i find interesting and find alot of inconsistencies. Because in an atheisticf society i gather anything is OK.

So when i make the statement, It is not ok for a 75year old woman to hook up with a 10 year old boy. What gives me the authority to say that? Another one, Joseph Stalin was wrong for killing a millions of his people? What makes that true or not? The standards are hit or miss it seams with people comments.

I will always error on the side of liberty, even if i don't agree with the issue. For if I have been give the choice to love my God, and not forced, how could I force anyone to do anything. Free choice has been given to all, and because of that we will choose where we go in and after life.

And your "these people" comment shows how you look at people in groups and yourself dont have a respect for individual liberty.

Also could you find the part where the author talks about banning and using government to force people to stop, you cant. This is a man who has frustrations with something because he sees the destruction this causes around him. I do think God men like him and Ron Paul stand up and speak their minds when the whole world is saying the opposite.

"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect" - Mark Twain

Exactly. They are NOT the victims.

Women get payed more and are in higher demand than men in the porn industry.

Some of the more popular porn stars have made millions in the double digits.

Not sure if this quote is often used so much anymore

"Judge not that ye be not judged".

The article is more of a rant than anything else.

In particular where the author of the article states that "I hate porn because it leads to rape, molestation, and perversion that can devastate people for the rest of their lives", one can obviously point out that these things existed long before porn. One could argue that they were more prolific in the Roman Empire than even today.

If you would rather hate than forgive, fuel anger over understanding and condemn the sins of others when you admit you struggled for a long time with that exact same sin then you have a fundamental lack of moral high ground to preach such nonsense to begin with.

The author's eie certainly offends me, fortunately it is not my own so no pluckeing shall occur.

I have no desire to defend porn nor attack it here, however the misuse of the Word of G_d in order to put forth this type of message is far worse than pornography in my opinion, on both an ideological and spiritual level.

Well put. I like this proverb too..

"The road to hell is paved with good intentions." Lets look what would happen if we do the right thing and make porn illegal. (in reference to some comments below)
1. No porn is produced
2. Supply goes to 0 and demand remains at a constant
3. Black market porn prospers. Underage men and women are abducted and forced into non-consentual acts without pay, probably being killed after the producers are done with them.
4. A bunch of scumbags abusing human beings get rich

I have a difficult time accepting the outcome as "God's will".

I AM is all that is. Everything else is malleable.

God created all things right?

Thanks god!

For Freedom!
The World is my country, all mankind is my brethren, to do good is my religion.

Not quite.

All of creation owes it's existence to God's will, but the peculiarities of mankind's moral lawlessness is our own contribution to things according to Ecclesiastes 7:29 and Romans 5:12. And even when evil is cited as God's handiwork in the KJV in verses like Isaiah 45:7 and Amos 3:6, it's pretty clear that God's hand in it is the punishment of an existing lawlessness given that the Hebrew "rah" is used, which is also interchangeably translated as sorrow, adversity, affliction, trouble, calamity and so on.

Pornography is our invention, along with war, suffering, and all the other things that you may either like or dislike depending on your own arbitrary standards of pleasure and pain, and you'll forgive me if I'm not celebrating in the streets over it.
