Joe Scarborough: Christie is the Man

Time Mag: - snip -

Christie is the first New Jersey Republican in a quarter-century to win a majority of votes statewide. And on the same night a Virginia Republican in the governor's race was routed among women, African Americans and Hispanics, Christie improved on his 2009 showing among minorities while walking away with the women's vote. For a pro-life conservative running in a deep blue state, it was a performance every bit as dominant as the Boss ripping through a live version of "Rosalita." And like Springsteen himself, Christie made it all look easy.

The question now is whether his brassy act will play as well in Nashua and Sioux City as it does in Nutley and Asbury Park. The answer rests on what direction a divided Republican Party takes over the next few years.

It's the latest battle in a long war between GOP purists and pragmatists. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the nomination of Barry Goldwater and the shouting down of Nelson Rockefeller at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. For many conservatives, the Goldwater moment--itself a reaction to the perceived moderation of the Eisenhower years--is a kind of nativity narrative for what's best about the modern GOP. The story goes like this: conservatives disenchanted with Ike nominated Goldwater, whose defeat made Reagan's ultimate victory possible.

The problem with that tale, though, is that it fails to credit the great historical fact of the matter: Eisenhower and Reagan had more in common with Christie than with Ted Cruz. Ike and Reagan knew how to win and how to govern, and they bent history to their will by appealing not just to a narrow slice of America but to the nation--even the world--as a whole.

Thank Goodness

he didn't say Rand Paul is our man.

Then I'd be worried.

Christie is the man that is

Christie is the man that is going to give us 4 more years of Dems...Yaaaaaaay ! Dems will vote in the republican primaries to make sure this turd gets the nomination then they will turn on him like rabid dogs. He will never get the conservative vote but the dems will put him in there to secure Hillary's win. Liberals are disgusting little Maggots...

A Christie nomination will

A Christie nomination will mean a Hillary presidency. Those MSNBC libs praising Christie now will turn on him like rabid dogs once Hillary is nominated.

Scarborough is a traitor. Christie is a fascist.

New Jersey is a communist state where people cannot even pump their own gasoline.

You mean vs. NY where basically even the elderly have to?

People in New York GO to New Jersey for gas at 1950's-like full-service stations: it's pumped for you; they'll clean your windshields if needed; and THE GAS IS CHEAPER, as also the CIGARETTES that New Yorkers buy at gas stations there. Don't get me wrong. I can't stand Christie. I'd sit home before voting for him for president. But this gas thing precedes him. It's a 50-year old law. http://askville.amazon.com/Jersey-full-service-gas-stations-...

I dislike not having the choice to decide for himself.

This pumping-gas issue along with the biannual car inspections have both caused nothing but trouble, IMO. Not only do they potentiate the nanny-state, they also potentiate good-old-boy corruption. True that both preceded Christie, but I don't see him doing anything to eliminate either of them when he is in a position to do so.

Scarborough has been bought

and paid for by the statist thugs. They spend so many hours shilling for Christie on his show.

If you watch MSNBC ( yeah I know -out it down to opposition research) They are scared to death of a Rand Paul candidacy and are trying to kill it now. They showed this clip, and feigned outrage that Rand would bring up the obvious conflicts of interest with the Sandy Ads.

In fact, tons of Fema money has gone into Jersey union coffers, because of regulations requiring union labor to clean up and restore buildings. There are still people living in Makeshift housing, because they bucked the Union system.

To add stupidity to stupidity, Rachael Madcow is ranting about how Rand is already out because of the phony Plagiarism controversy.

The fight is already on, and we're taking some hard shots.

Besides already knowing

Christie is a scumbag crook from one of the largest organized crime states in the Union, Ziocon Bill Kristol said 'I think he's wonderful and would make a great President' on Meet the Press last weekend. That tells me the Fat Man from Jersey would be the absolute worst GOP nominee and God help us, President!

Ugh. Christie is the worst

Ugh. Christie is the worst sort of "moderate"; a big government, authoritarian, neocon.

Hopefully Rand will weather his current storm and present voters with another version of "moderate"; a small government, civil libertarian, non interventionist to appeal to a different slice of the mushy middle.

I suppose Scarboro likes Lindsay Graham too?

Obama came out to congratulate Cristie on his win, so DYOC

Looks like Cristie is the democrats favorite republican nominee.

That means he can get their votes

Just sayin'

He gets their votes

Because he rules like a democrat. If just getting an "R" into office is the only goal, he is great. Those people who voted for Christie deserve Christie.
