Germans remember 1938's 'night of broken glass'

Germans across the country on Saturday commemorated the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht — the night of broken glass — during which the Nazis staged a wave of attacks on Jews in Germany and Austria.

On Nov. 9, 1938, hundreds of synagogues were burned, numerous homes and Jewish-owned stores were ransacked, some 1,000 people were killed and more than 30,000 Jews were sent to concentration camps.

The attacks marked the beginning of the state-organized, violent persecution of Jews which ended in the murder of six million European Jews by the end of the Third Reich in 1945.

Strange we don't hold a day

Strange we don't hold a day of remembrance for the Waco Siege here in the states...

There's a little more to the story. This comes immediately after the second assassination of two NDSAP officials. One being the leader of NDSAP in Switzerland, Wilhelm Gustloff by a Jewish man named David Frankfurter in 1936. And the other being the assassination of German diplomat, Ernst vom Rath by a Jewish man named Herschel Grynszpan in 1938 who fled directly to a Jewish lawyers office. The next day was Kristallnacht.

10 days after Kristallnacht, the US Ambassador in Paris, William Bullitt tells the Polish Ambassador that the US will "without a doubt" participate in the war against Germany. This while pogroms were happening in Poland, under a dictator.

No, I do not sympathize or agree with the National Socialist ideology in any way. No, I'm not saying the pogrom was justified or that the entire German Jewish population brought it on themselves. Obviously they did not.

Still, people see themselves as belonging to groups. The late 1930's Europe were clearly incredibly turbulent.

The point is it didn't spring out of nothing. Clearly there was more going on than is ever mentioned when "remembering" these things which severely cheapens it's memory and lends itself to use by states as propaganda to justify things like sanctions on Iran by the United States.

You are absolutely correct. Adolf Hitler did not say this.

This is from the Talmud.

"We beg Thee, O Lord, indict Thy wrath on the nations not believing in Thee, and not calling on Thy name. Let down Thy wrath on them and inflict them with Thy wrath. Drive them away in Thy wrath and crush them into pieces. Take away, O Lord, all bone from them. In a moment indict all disbelievers. Destroy in a moment all foes of Thy nation. Draw out with the root, disperse and ruin unworthy nations. Destroy them! Destroy them immediately, in this very moment!"

When you bring war to other people, you get blowback.

Is that a legitimate quote? I can't find a source for it. It seems like it's attributed to "The Book of Jore Dia 17" but I don't see that anything by that name exists.

Bill3, I think that your stats must be close to accurate. Per the book, "The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine", at the time of the UN vote to give Palestine away, the Palestinians owned 94.2% of the land in Palestine, and the UN gave the Jews 56% of Palestine. I don't have the book in front of me-going off of memory.
What followed was the Palestinian Holocaust (using the term loosely).

This should make you think....

If you will resist or if you will succumb to the horrors of facist murderers?

truly there's nothing worse

truly there's nothing worse than a facist. all faces should be judged equally.

i'm a little choked up. lest

i'm a little choked up. lest we forget...

November in history

In November 1947, the U.S. helped push through a UN resolution partitioning Palestine into a Zionist state and an Arab state. At that time, the Palestinians still outnumbered Zionist settlers two to one and owned 92 percent of the land. But the partition gave Israel 54 percent of the land.

1580 – After a three-day siege, the English Army beheads over 600 Papal soldiers and civilians at Dún an Óir, Ireland.

1971 – In Cambodia, Khmer Rouge forces attack the city of Phnom Penh and its airport, killing 44, wounding at least 30 and damaging nine aircraft.

1975 – United Nations Resolution 3379: United Nations General Assembly approves a resolution equating Zionism with racism (the resolution is repealed in December 1991 by Resolution 4686).

1989 – German citizens begin to bring the Berlin Wall down

1995 – In Nigeria, playwright and environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa, along with eight others from the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (Mosop), are hanged by government forces.

My statistics don't match yours

Where did you get those lame stats? Seriously can you show where you got your stats?

which led to Israel's war of independence from the UN May 1948 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yom_Ha'atzmaut

I know that

When it comes to online reference wiki is it, and so to debate, if you will not accept wiki, then you need to produce a site that can be agreed on to continue.. it is easier to accept wiki and then point out the specific disagreement with wiki on that topic than to find a site than has the span of related subjects for cross referencing.

I have never been offered a replacement for wiki.. so unless there is a replacement for wiki, then I believe saying wiki is unreliable is an excuse to not debate.

I'm searching for a wiki replacement. Have you got one?

i found them on the internet

i found them on the internet like you.

Not like me

I have been studying this as a subject for a few months, and found 80 anti- Israel propeganda to one correct, not pro-or anti-Israel, just factual. Wiki is unbiased and I think a fair source when debating the subect. Itherwise it becomes a debate over sites, and whatever you used, appears you don't esteme it enough to share to make your point, but rather make a joke. :D

unbiased? Granger, Wikipedia

unbiased? Granger, Wikipedia bans certain facts, even if they are facts, as long as they interfere with official doctrine. Try getting the fact that there is no proof that 6 million died in the Holocaust put on that page and see what happens. Of course, many did die, but the 6 million figure predates WW1.

I agree

Seeking alternative for wiki: got one?

I've posted this previously: I do not believe there were 6 million unwanted humanbeings eliminated by the holocast, I believe the actual number is much higher. I believe the 6 million figure is an illuminatus (not that they have they power they did then.. groups like this morph) "magic number", and you will find that number, like 911, with so many associations, trying to connect the dots, or find the needle (truth) in the haystack of lies, is made impossible.

Why is the 6 million number so important? If it was 1 million Jews would it be any less criminal what happened to them, afterall you can deny the holocast, but can you deny that Hitler did everything in is power to eliminate the Jewish population of Germany?

wouldn't your time be better

wouldn't your time be better spent cheering the death of syrian christian children or somethin.

Why would I cheer the death of innocent Syrian Children?

I don't support dictators like Assad who uses his own troops to shoot innocent Syrian children and render Syria to rubble and refugees for a UN Agenda.

isn't that you thing?

isn't that you thing?

you thing?

My thing is learning and sharing what I have learned.

lol looks you you shared

lol looks you you shared wherever you learned to spell, i caught it.

I don't know

I don't spell well.. it's my achilles heel.. still not following the you.. but I do get the insults.. why.. I don't know.. maybe you would like to tell me where the insults from you are coming from?

your thing, granger. your

your thing, granger. your thing. but enough piling on. you do your schitck, i'll do mine. high five.

That is the day when the jews

That is the day when the jews should have killed as many nazis as possible instead of being led to slaughter like a flock of sheep. Lets not make the same mistake if our government starts rounding us up to be put in concentration camps.

Jews in Europe didn't all just go knowingly to their slaughter.

They were lied to. Told they would be "re-located".
One more great example of lesson number one: never trust government.

I agree that MORE should have stood up and fought.
But it is not as if many did not.

Look at Warsaw.
Look at the Bielski brothers.
Look at the thousands of Jewish Resistance members throughout occupied Europe.
Look at the concentration camp revolts & escapes, like at Sobibor.

Problem was, they were fighting with zip-guns and molotov cocktails, against the highly trained well-equipped Nazi military machine.

Are you a POT or a PET - Person Embracing Tyranny?

They could not

They were not allowed to carry weapons.. it is one of the common responses in Israel when people ask why Israel needs so many weapons.. "There would not have been a holocast had we been armed".

Under Two Flags by Heinz Weichardt

Since my early teens I had been an avid gun lover. In Austria, where we lived at the time, there were in effect no restrictions on the possession of handguns or rifles. If there were, they certainly were not enforced. At the age of fifteen I could walk into one of the finest gun shops in Vienna and purchase any weapon in the store, as long as I had the necessary money. Unfortunately I didn't, but after some time I had scraped together a sufficient amount to start my modest collection by acquiring three low-priced handguns. Shortly thereafter, in 1929, we moved to Berlin. In Germany, under the Weimar Republic, one had to register each gun with the police. There were no restrictions on the possession except if you wanted to carry them. In this case you had to have a hunting license which required a lengthy course in gun handling, marksmanship, game laws and handling of bagged game. The police had absolutely no say or power to refuse you the ownership of your guns when you came to register. It was a purely bureaucratic measure which enabled the police to trace a gun involved in a criminal action.

My guns were registered in the name of my (Jewish) mother, who had contributed the money for their original purchase, because I was only fifteen years old and could not own firearms until I reached maturity (21 yrs). After Hitler came to power, nothing was changed in the existing gun regulations; nobody had to turn in the registered guns--period. My mother still had them on the day of her immigration to the US (May 1941) and gave them to a friend of mine because importation of firearms was prohibited under US law.

there goes the nazi gun control myth. doh

It makes the IDF's point

Are you for gun restrictions and bans? Did you read what you posted?

i wasn't replying to any IDF

i wasn't replying to any IDF point i don't usually read their material.
