Citing Wisconsin's growing Hispanic population, Gov. Scott Walker has written to Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto asking that a Mexican consulate be established here.
A letter also was sent to Eduardo Medina Mora, the Mexican Ambassador to the United States in Washington, D.C.
Wisconsin is served by the Consul General of Mexico in Chicago, which also serves Mexican nationals in Illinois and Indiana. That means the Chicago Consulate is serving a population of more than 3 million, the letters state.
