I know someone who would love Paul, but they've been lied to. What do I do?
My pops is an influential guy in his southern church, and I know his choice will bring in at least 20+ votes, but I think this time he is the one being influenced. He told me he won't be voting for Paul because "he'd cut national defense." He's not happy with any candidate.
I talked to my dad about Paul in early '07, and he was excited. We both were! I told him how Paul opposes NAFTA, and how he's pro-life, anti foreign wars, free trade, anti-drug war, and so on. This is my dad's dream candidate.
But my dad has been lied to. Paul has never said he'd cut national defense (by that I mean defense of the homeland), has he? I don't want to come on too strong and correct my dad, since that would make him dig his heels in, so I'm looking for solutions.
Thanks guys, I guarantee if we convince him, it's another 20 votes for Paul in Mississippi.

Defense
Paul would INCREASE National Defense!!!!!!!! Here is what his flyer said (in part) from NH:
Job #1 is hunting down Osama and Taking Him Out
"It's time we strengthen our military, secure our borders, and defend America."
I can scan it for you if you want..
since were going bankrupt..
since were going bankrupt.. national defense will get cut weather he wants it to or not.. you can only have a strong national defense with a strong economy!
“A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.” (Prov. 22:3; 27:12 KJV)
Hey McCain-----┌П┐(◣_◢)┌П┐
It is inevitable
If your dad does not like the idea of national defense cut, he needs to re-evaluate his premises. To maintain the breadth and width of our national defense, our economy would have to be strong and prestine. But we know that is not the case. Instead, we have a very shaky economy on the verge of collapse, which will only trigger further economic troubles worldwide due to the dollar being the world's reserve currency.
Should our economy collapse. who or what will finance our national defense at its current level? If anyone but the United States finances our national defense, then that is already a breach of national defense. China already lends us 2 to 3 billion dollars a day for our shortcomings. We're a debtor nation to China, a communist country. Is it worth having our large national defense when someone else is pulling our financial strings?
Since Dr. Paul is the only candidate who actually has a real economic plan for the country, a vote for anyone else would be a step towards the direction of economic disaster. If he doesn't like cuts in defense now, wait when the country gets blindsided by a severe recession.
Texas Straight Talk
Show him what RP had to say about it way back in 1998. His position is the same then as it is now. National Defense is important and is weakened by our foreign policy.

He has actually pledged to strengthen our national defenses.
Paul believes that we are spread too thin around the world and we need to bring our troops home to protect our borders.
Your Dad will have to somehow come to understand that these foreign wars are making us weaker. They are chewing up good troops and destroying our economy. One way or another, the troops are going to have to come home because the Dollar is slipping and Asia isn't happy about what is going on. We already owe them so much money that our financial future is in serious jeopardy.
Its not like we are protecting the gas either because gas is 3 times more expensive now than it was in 2002. Ron Paul wants to strengthen our national defenses and protect what is left of our economy by paying more attention to what is going on here instead of wasting our money and blood overseas where they don't want us anyway.
If he thinks the terrorists are an actual threat then he needs to understand that we are only pissing them off over there and they only hate us in the first place because we have been pissing them off over there for a long time.
