ATF Propaganda @ Its Finest: Cody Wilson's 3D-Printed Gun 'explodes,' When You IGNORE Original Design-Specs & do It the ATF Way!

Too hilarious: just as the Undetectable Firearms Act is about to expire on December 9th, 2013, they're ramping up their efforts to push to ban ALL 3D-printing of any gun by the citizenry, the utterly dormant ATF's own YouTube page, suddenly came back to life, with 40% of their current videos on their channel all about the 'dangers' of Cody Wilson's 3D-printed gun designs. Observe the hilarity; oh and no, you can't comment on their YouTube video comment section.

Success! Works PERFECTLY FINE, when actually following directions of Cody Wilson & co's original design specs:

++ So, the ATF's 1st vid was posted in April, 2013. Then their 6th video EVER and their last one, was posted at June, 2013. Then like 'gee...what a coinkydink' just in time, now that the Undetectable Firearms Act is about to expire on December 9th, 2013, for their new Anti-3D printed gun legislation push by Chucky Schmucker & his other NY statist hoplophobe pansy Rep. Steve Israel, they go on a 4-video posting binge, starting on Nov 13, 2013!

Literally, FOUR out of all ten videos they have on their page, is on Anti-Cody Wilson & 3D-printed plastic gun propaganda! LOL!!! Man, these guys need a new script writer who actually 'gets' the definition of subtlety.

Of course, they don't say whether they used hot-custom loads/+P overpressured .380ACP cartridges; their 'experiments' actually ironically PROVE the 'safeness' of Cody Wilson's designs & construction, IF one actually follows Cody's original design specs.

Yet hilariously, like everything govt actors do or touch, when they do it 'their' way, it literally blows up on their own faces!

BATFE Test & Blow Up 3D Printed Gun

[ATF Propaganda .gif:]

Steve Johnson
November 15, 2013

The BATFE have been testing 3D printed guns. They have concluded that they are both lethal and liable to self-destruct (see animation above). Gizmodo reports …

The bottom line is, the penetration results demonstrated that the Liberator is a lethal weapon. The .380 bullets fired from the Liberator penetrate sufficiently to reach vital organs and perforate the skull.

Feds' Own Half-Assed, 3D-Printed Gun Blew Up Right In Their Faces

Ashley Feinberg
Yesterday 10:59am

Now that the ban on undetectable guns is on the verge of expiring, the feds are doing everything they can to renew the law before it's too late. With one key addition: banning 3D printed firearms altogether. And what better way to stress the dangers of the plastic pistol than by building it like a haphazard murderer would (i.e. half-assing it) and watching it blow up right in front of your eyes.

Since Defense Distributed's Liberator is currently the only 3D-printed gun with widely available blueprints, that's the one the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) decided to test out. In fact, it made several different versions of the weapon: some used plastic produced by Visjet and others were made of the stronger acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) plastic, the stuff the single-shot gun's CAD file actually calls for. And the verdict? According to Earl Griffith, chief of ATF's firearms technology branch:

The bottom line is, the penetration results demonstrated that the Liberator is a lethal weapon. The .380 bullets fired from the Liberator penetrate sufficiently to reach vital organs and perforate the skull.

But it's not just the guy on the other end who should be worried; if the person holding the gun doesn't have any real experience/any idea what he or she is doing, they could be going down just as easily. As you can see in the videos, the gun made of Visijet's plastic couldn't handle the pressure, blowing up the second they pulled the trigger. Imagine all the flying plastic shrapnel shooting into someone's face—it's not pretty.

Feds Printed Their Own 3D Gun And It Literally Blew Up In Their Faces

Posted: 11/13/2013 6:52 pm EST | Updated: 11/14/2013 10:40 am EST

WASHINGTON -- Federal officials have determined that a 3D gun printed from blueprints available online qualifies as a deadly weapon and worry it could evade metal detectors at courthouses, schools and other public places.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) produced its own version of the Liberator, a gun made of plastic that can be produced using a 3D printer and blueprints made available online earlier this year.

The Feds Test Fired 3D-Printed Plastic Guns, and One of Them Exploded

By Meghan Neal
November 14, 2013

After firing several rounds of a homemade plastic gun, the federal government officially determined that 3D-printed firearms are dangerous, deadly, and a threat to the nation's safety. Now the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is working with lawmakers to implement some regulatory control on the nascent technology.

The agency announced its findings at a press conference yesterday, and also shared a video of their weapons test. Officials downloaded the files for the Liberator—Cody Wilson's now-famous 3D-printed gun—printed a few models, and fired 'em. One of guns blew up. (The video catches this in action and is worth a watch.) The others worked successfully enough for the agency to conclude the weapons were lethal.

"The .380 bullets fired from the Liberator penetrate sufficiently to reach vital organs and perforate the skull," ATF chief Earl Griffith told reporters.

Engineers at a custom manufacturing company in Texas have created world's first high-powered, fully functioning metal handgun... from a 3D printer. The team at Solid Concepts announced this week that that they've successfully designed, printed, assembled and (accurately) fired a 1911 pistol created using digital blueprints that were fed through an industrial 3D printer loaded with powdered metals. In this week's Tech Report, RT's Meghan Lopez talks with Kent Firestone, vice president of additive manufacturing at Solid Concepts, about 3D printing and if it could revolutionize the Second Amendment as we know it.

WASHINGTON (AP) — With a law banning undetectable firearms about to expire, federal agents are focusing attention on the latest twist in high-tech weaponry: guns made entirely out of plastic.

3-D industrial printers that can create plastic models and prototypes now can make guns that can't be picked up by metal detectors.

A longtime ban on undetectable firearms is scheduled to expire Dec. 9 and two Democratic senators, Chuck Schumer of New York and Bill Nelson of Florida, have called for a ban on plastic guns. Rep. Steve Israel, D-N.Y., also has introduced legislation on the issue.

"The expiration of this law, combined with advances in 3-D printing, make what was once a hypothetical threat into a terrifying reality," said Schumer. "We are actively exploring all options to pass legislation that will eliminate the problem."

I would not fire a gun made

I would not fire a gun made by FDM, SLA, SLS, or any of a wide variety of rapid prototyping processes. I like my hands and the rest of my body too much to do something silly like that.

Why not just make a gun the old fashioned way? With a mill and a lathe? Modernize it with a CNC mill and CNC lathe. Table top models are not unaffordable comparably.

The whole 3D printed gun is just hype and nonsense as far as I am concerned. I have access to nice FDM machine. I know many places to have stuff made out of various rapid prototyping materials. I know the processes well. This is just something to say it was done. Like making a gun out of carved wood or something. It's just to say it can be done. Nothing more. Nice to see the rulers get all hyper about it though.

Cody was recently interviewed on Ernest Hancock's Freedoms Phoenix radio show to discuss Dark Wallet and whether he maybe able to incorporate a ''split wallet' of sorts, within the same blockchain' - feature, before they roll out the "Dark Wallet."

Wasn't too familiar with the technicalities, but the interview explored those relevant issues very well IMHO; would love to hear/watch a video of the recent Phoenix BitCoin presentation that Ernie participated in. If anyone has a link, please post it. Thanks.)

The interview is a MONSTER 6hr-long, in-depth discussion about digital currency, global geopolitical and econ implications, the growing faction of Bitcoin's 'we need your approval Daddy Govt, purrty please? Please accept us!"-pro-govt-Quislings-faction vs pure agorists, complexities of 'referral'-fee and verifications of pay between vendors and agreements, in-depth nature of blockchains & 'split-wallets within the same chain,' and how Dark Wallet would address many of those issues.

LOL, I would've had a hard time sitting through it all, without my VLC player playing it at 3x speed, playing in the background while multitasking other work! Cody comes in near later part of the show; regardless, I personally found the entire discussion, both before and after Cody's segment, to be extremely informative. Check it out, y'all:

Correct me if I am wrong but...

Couldn't you also make a working gun out of wood if you were so inclined? I mean that would also technically be possible. Watch out for someone carrying a mean 4 x 4 in their pants limping towards you. This stuff seriously needs to end. I think the fascination for people myself included is whether or not something like a 3D gun would even work.

That has been proven to be true. The thought that you could print something that would shoot is truly awesome. Now we just need printed ammo with powder and we are set. I wonder if it would be possible to have certain component materials that are combined via a computer to make chemicals for propellant. My bet is that it probably is and is either in the works or already being done. Look at nano machines and nano bots that are able to self-replicate from the environment. How long until they are programming them to make bombs or something equally sinister?

certainly, technically you can;

if you can 'rifle' a 12~16" diameter tree trunk .D

or happen to be a crafty German or a Japanese dude with a knack for tinkering; god, how I'd love to see these guys tinker with firearms tech!

face it vice might have some interesting stuff but they are compromised.

PETE YOST, Associated Press (now look at how he starts the article out misleading the reader first two paragraphs are blatant lies)
" federal agents are focusing attention on the latest twist in high-tech weaponry: guns made entirely out of plastic." -- IE NOT TRUE

funny thing is there was a movie that highlighted using a plastic 2shot pistol starring john malcovich and clint eastwood ! but now they are scared cuz of little old cody.

this line is great - from the OMG article again poorly written

no where in any of these articles did they say the atf used material not applicable to maintaining adequate pressures while firing.

Resin prop replica of the composite gun made by John Malkovich (Mitch Leary) in the movie, In the Line of Fire. Leary creates this plastic gun to slip past security into a re-election campaign dinner for the President of the United States. Malkovich faces off against the Secret Service agent assigned to protect the president, Frank Horrigan (Clint Eastwood). When at the hotel where the President is staying, Leary assembles the weapon under the party table, and had previously hidden the ammunition in a rabbit's foot keychain, and the springs in a pen. The gun is a double barrel, single action weapon, and has working trigger action (does not fire rounds). Each barrel is manually cocked by the levers at the top of the weapon, and the gun also disassembles into several sections.

How the trigger action works:
Just like in the movie, the firing pin is pulled back by the dowel, then the dowel is pressed down to lock the firing pin. When the trigger is pulled, it pushes up on the dowel until the dowel becomes free, allowing the spring to push the pin forward.

Film Description: Clint Eastwood delivers one of his finest performances, as a secret service agent haunted by his past in Wolfgang Petersen's taut thriller In the Line of Fire. Eastwood plays Frank Horrigan, a secret service agent who keeps thinking back to November 22, 1963, when, as an agent hand-picked by President Kennedy, he became one of the few agents to have lost a president to an assassin. Decades later, psychotic Mitch Leary (John Malkovich) is stalking another president (Jim Curley) running for re-election. He has spent long hours studying the psyche of Frank Horrigan, and he taunts Horrigan (feeling that there is a bond between them), telling him of his plans to kill the president. After his conversation with Leary, Horrigan makes sure he is assigned to presidential protection duty. Horrigan has no intention of failing his president this time around, and he is more than willing to take a bullet. But everything goes Leary's way -- he is smart and cagey and the president's aides refuse to alter the itinerary. As the election draws closer, Horrigan's chances to catch Leary look to be less and less a possibility, and he begins to doubt his own abilities -- both now and in the past, when Kennedy was murdered.

ATF recently performed their own tests after 3D printing the Defense Distributed Liberator in both ABS plastic and a Visijet Material (My guess is their crystal material). From ATFs own testing assuming you know what you're doing ABS holds up extremely well, while the Visijet material quite literally explodes from the force of the .380 cartridge discharging.
