My Congressman Has Been Arrested For Possession of Cocaine.

It was kept secret until he appeared in court today.

My Congressman, Trey Radel (R) was arrested on Oct. 29 in D.C. Charged with possession of cocaine.

He issued the standard apologies, prayer requests for his family and the opportunity to seek treatment. Blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda, we've heard it all before ad infinitum.

Then he added this:

"In a statement, Radel said that he is an alcoholic who needs to get help after making an "extremely irresponsible choice."

Appearantly he is not the only one the made an irresponsible choice.

We had two "Liberty" candidates in our primary. I supported Byron Donalds in the primary. He lost.

I did vote for Radel in the general. I will now demand he resign.

I believe in personal liberty.

I believe he can put whatever he wants in his body.

I believe in personal responsibility as well.

I believe doing blow on the job is personally irresponsible.

Unbelievable. I am just sick over this.

My Representative, Trey Radel

My Representative, Trey Radel should NOT resign because of possession or use of any drug.
This is another example of uninformed or misinformed voters, legislators, and law enforcers causing unintended bad consequences from non-violent victim-less prohibition crimes.
Prohibition turns law-abiding citizens into criminals and makes a mockery of the justice system.

Jack, you're one of my local heroes...

Yourself and Brian H. are both my local heroes.
You have both done so much to promote Liberty.

I have a lot of respect for you and look forward to discussing your view in detail.
I will look for you at the next LCRP meeting.

I voted for him.

"Radel allegedly bought cocaine from an undercover agent"

I can't believe he let himself be set up so easily.
Why was a government agent in possession of an illegal substance trying to frame a congressman? The government agent should be charged with criminal possession.

I still like Trey Radel and don't have a problem with people using coke, crack, pot, or other drugs in moderation. None of these drugs should be illegal.

If holier than thou reporters give him a hard time about it, I think he should take a page out of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's book and go off nicely with rhetoric on their ass. Especially since his carrier is probably over. He who is without sin cast the first stone.

As far as his record in congress so far, I like it but not totally impressed and he hasn't risen anywhere near the level of a Justin Amash and doubt he can.

As far as his personal choices, I think he's stupid, especially because he should be acting more responsibly because he has a family, he's a public figure, and he has his voting supporters he should be thinking about.

is that a new one?

edit- I don't know anything about this guy, other than skimming through this post. Pity it seems, that he was one of "us"?

Well, you can't hit a home run every time...but you do have to swing, and sometimes you do strike out.

At least

he wasn't smoking crack!

i have a dream..

that one day workers, co-workers, congressmen and co-congressmen will one day, instead of having beers after work, would light up a few joints or do a few lines... or drink mango juice - whatever their choice...

and their constituents won't hate them for it.

This guy actually practices a bit of liberty and you desert him?

I doubt he was doing cocaine at the Capitol and who cares what he does at home. Besides at this point, a liberty minded congressman's job is actually really easy, vote "NO" until we get enough more to actually make a difference.

Where does it say he was on

Where does it say he was on the job? In fact, it says he was at Dupont Circle. Last I checked, it was quite a ways from the capitol.

why would it have been kept secret?

war on drugs is such a nasty war.. what a shame, mostely if he's the face of the rEVOLution in your area.. another reason so many libertarians don't get into politics?

Why indeed!

Radel was a Liberty leaning candidate.
Byron Donalds was more the "face of the rEVOLution ".

Byron did extremely well in the primary against Radel, a very close race.

Radel has done a good job so far as a freshman.
He vocal, he's visible, he sponsors and co-sponsors the right bills.
His voting record is focused and representative.
I've been watching him closely.

But...I digress.

No need to apologize for how you feel
