Use cases

Haha, the real problems lie NOT with individual devices themselves (unless there are spying features built into them at hardware level). Problems are which applications people are using on them & how they're using them - termed as "use cases" in standard technology lingo. Surely, you/me/most everyone here knows this.

If such technologies are used for constructive purposes helping humanity, spreading values of peace/liberty/self sustenance like we do here, they are great use cases. If use cases are stupid/narcissistic not contributing to humanity in any way, like zombies glued to mobile phones in subway trains obsessively refreshing looking for facebook/twitter updates, wasting away hours in useless SMS texting gossip, mindless games - that's when the disease starts.

BTW, regardless of the kind of use cases: If technologies turn into addictive behaviors, dependency crutches, then there are equally bad mental problems. I don't care if it's the dumbest narcissistic facebook conversation, or great liberty discussion on dailypaul/youtube/wherever: If user is reduced to compulsively refreshing browser looking for new updates every 30 seconds & finding emptiness in their life without new updates, then they've got mental problems. I don't care how great liberty oriented topics there might be on dailypaul or elsewhere, if overaddiction to them start coming in way of healthy relationships with friends/family, it won't be a healthy situation.

At first, it may seem ironic we're using technology to have conversation like this. But when you think in terms of "use cases" it isn't.

I was only poking some fun. I

I was only poking some fun. I already know what was meant.

I can so live without my smart phone!

Last Christmas I saw people from 3 continents (all young kids) looking at their screens, not looking at each other and talking. I agree, put them down!!!

I still won't buy a smartphone.

I would be too distracted. I would be one of those people bent over and forming early humped shoulders. I would be one of those people who can't look people in the eyes anymore. I would be one of those people out at a restaurant with friends and we would all be hunched over our phones instead of being in conversation.

Instead, I have my little crappy AT&T Pantech that takes lousy pics and videos. I don't go online with it. Don't use any apps. I just talk and text.

I would turn off my mobile phone...but

I'm typing this comment at the moment.

Porn on the DP only got 3 up-votes?

Hello OP,

Thanks for posting. Not what I expected.

So, I missed it....where's the part about DP addicts? ;)

This was a hoot!

See photo at 8:31. (Is that a church service?)

See video at 9:02 - groom stops wedding to check smart-phone.

See video at 10:13 - porn anime. How'd you all miss that? j/k.

84% couldn't go a day without their phone. (Really? What will happen...spontaneous self-combustion? Do 'TPTB' know this is an easier way to depopulate the earth?) ;)

50% sleep with their phone. ( In lieu of ? ) ;)

Interesting video. You all should watch.

Thanks again for posting. :)

Great!

Seems like everyone around here has turned off their mobile phones, tablets, laptops & enjoying real life w/ face-fo-face communications. ;-)

Great job!

As for my part, I had a half an hour conversation w/ my neighbor for the first time in many months.

Sounds great in theory, but

Sounds great in theory, but the internet is the only refuge for truth, information, education, and open communication left. There's room for both in a well balanced life. But I get your point my friend :)
