3D-Printed Counterfeit Gold Coins?Submitted by Anti-Panda Prop... on Sun, 11/24/2013 - 20:59
I'm just looking around my place at all the things I could make copies of when I get my first 3D printer, and my eyes came to a stop on my bowl of old silver quarters.
We know already that 3D printing with gold is now possible, at very high detail. A pre-formed tungsten (which weighs the same as gold) slug could be inserted mid-print to make a fake, which is already done to fake gold bars.
So if I did trade in that bowl of quarters for a gold coin, could I be sure it wasn't a 3D-printed fake?
